Chapter 4

I opened my eyes to find that it was already dark as I peered through the slightly ajar window. I groaned, and as I turned to the other side of the bed, Landon was sitting on the chair with his eyes on mine.

“Landon…” I breathed out his name and pushed myself into a sitting position. He got up from the chair and walked over to me, his tall frame looming over me.

“I saw you lying on the ground and brought you to the bed,” he said and sat on the edge of the bed next to me.

My breath hitched as I took a whiff of his scent, and my head quickly turned to the window to see that the moon hung brightly in the night sky.

“You’re in heat—“ He said, his bright blue eyes on mine, while I couldn’t focus on him as my body began to heat up. “You don’t have to worry about the unmated males. The door is locked, and I have sent most of them home,” he added, and I nodded while wiping a bead of sweat off my face.

“How did you know?” I managed to ask, my eyes moving from his lips to his neck, my wolf pushing for us to be closer to our mate.

“I could smell you from my office, Luna,” Landon whispered, taking a deep breath, his blue eyes glowing brightly, and his jaws clenched tightly. “It’s so natural—We are mates who just met, and it’s a full moon,” he added, his eyes moving to the closed window.

“Shit,” I groaned and clenched my stomach tightly as the wave of my heat hit me, my wolf releasing our scent and pushing us closer to our mate.

“I cannot resist you, Luna,” he muttered, his eyes moving from mine to my neck and lips. “Fuck, you’re my mate,” he whispered as he inched closer to me.

My core tightened, and sweat gathered around my head and arms. “I am your mate,” I said, relaxing into his words and letting the weight of his body on mine.

I gasped as I opened my eyes. Beads of sweat were gathered on my forehead, and I felt dizzy. I groaned as I turned around and released a deep sigh. My breath hitched as I remembered what had happened last night.

I had mated. I had mated with my male. A smile stretched upon my lips as I remembered last time, but it quickly turned into a frown as I realized Landon was not in bed with me—or in the room.

I got up with the sheet pooling around my feet and quickly put on my discarded clothes. I opened the door and strolled down the hallway of Landon’s house. A smile stretched on my lips, and I couldn’t help but roll on the balls of my feet as I stood in front of Landon’s office.

I knocked on the door, and a grunt followed by a "come in" sounded from the other side, and I pushed the door open. “Landon…” I trailed his name as I walked to him. His eyes never moved from the papers on his desk, and I furrowed my brows a little.

“What do you want?” he grunted as I stood in front of him. “I-I-“ No words escaped my lips as I realized I had nothing to say truly. We mated—he wants me, I just wanted to be with him.

He scoffed and dropped the pen that was in his hand. “I thought we’ve passed all this,” he said as he walked around the table to stand right in front of me. My breath hitched as I took a few steps back.

“Just because we mated doesn’t mean I want you. You’re a weak she-wolf and cannot stand by my side as my Luna,” he said as my back touched the wall and his arms caged me.

“I was under the force to mate with you. That was it. I do not want you, Luna,” he growled out while I pressed my hands to my chest as tears dropped from my eyes.

“Stop!” I said, and he scoffed and took steps back. “In fact,—“ He paused and turned to look at me. “-I am rejecting you as my mate.”

My heart stopped for a moment as I tried to understand why he was saying that. No, he can’t reject me. He wouldn’t reject me. I’m his soulmate.

“W-what?” I stammered, looking at him with teary eyes.

He took in a deep breath and looked at me in the eye, his blue ones piercing into mine. “I, Landon Underwood, reject you, Luna, as my mate and the Luna of this pack!”

I fell to the ground and clenched my blouse tightly. “No, you can’t do that! The moon goddess paired us together! We’re mates..” I whispered the last part with clenched teeth.

I could hear his footsteps coming towards me, and I looked up at him with blurry eyes. “We are mates by the terms of the moon goddess but definitely not by my terms. I want a female who is strong, Luna. And you reek of weakness, which is the last thing I want.”

“Now get up and get out of my office. I have a pack to run.”

I wiped my tears with a sniffle and looked up at him. “Where should I go since you don’t want me?” I asked, averting my eyes from his.

“Oh, you aren’t going anywhere, little mate. I don’t want you, but my wolf is still attached to yours, especially since we mated,” Landon answered with a click of his tongue.

“This… will all be sorted out soon. Now go to your room,” he said with finality in his tone, and with wobbly knees, I got up, walked towards the door, and pulled it open.

I paused and tightened my fingers around the doorknob. “I’m sorry that I wasn’t the mate you wanted—“ I sniffled and looked down at the brown wooden floor. “You aren’t the first person to not want me, Landon. I’m already used to it.”
