Just Out of Pity

"I won't, that's impossible for me to experience."

Nayla shrugged. "Fate, no one knows, Elvan. It can happen that hate turns into love. God also has the power to reverse the hearts of people. No one knows if you might fall in love with me someday."

Elvan let out a lazy sigh, planning to turn around and get into the car as he was tired of small talk. But suddenly Nayla grabbed his arm, causing Elvan to turn back with raised eyebrows.

"What now? Our business for today is finished." Elvan immediately let go of Nayla's hand. He didn't want the girl to touch him.

"Not yet, I mean. I'm alone at home, and I still want to chat with you. Don't you want to know about me? Aren't you curious about what kind of person I am?" Nayla muttered softly.

"Not at all. I already hate you, so I won't be interested in your life, especially your character. All I know is that you're a talkative, easily emotional, and troublesome woman. And a woman like that is definitely not my type," Elvan explained cruelly without hesitation.

"You're really cruel. Your words are so harsh. You seem not to care about my feelings after hearing you speak like that." Nayla felt a tightness in her chest and a sense of suffocation.

"I already said, I hate you. I've warned you not to fall in love with me if you don't want to get hurt. You're naive and foolish," Elvan replied, trying to make Nayla hate him.

"Yeah, I know, I am a talkative and troublesome woman, but can't you be less honest like that? At least you should also understand my feelings." Nayla looked down, staring at the tip of her sandal with a sad expression. The pain in her stomach didn't compare to the pain in her heart.

Elvan clearly didn't care, he reinforces harshly for Nayla to hear. "I hate women who are easily offended. Including those who are sensitive and cry."

After saying those harsh words, Elvan walked back to his car without saying goodbye to Nayla. He didn't care if the girl still wanted to respond to his words. Ignoring Nayla's pain in her heart because that was his intention.

While the girl clenched her fists and didn't move, she looked up with tears in her eyes as Elvan's car drove away from her home.

"Watch, Elvan. I'll make sure you'll pay for this. I can definitely make you fall in love with me. Just wait," Nayla murmured with a smirk on her lips.

 ***

Elvan descended the stairs with a blank expression. There was no enthusiasm at all to go to campus. He really didn't want to meet Nayla. Not to mention following his mother's endless requests regarding that girl.

"Elvan, have breakfast first!"

There she was, Laras. A young and beautiful woman who worked as a teacher at one of the most favorite schools in town. According to most people, Laras's facial features resembled Elvan as a female version.

"The lecturer will be here soon, Ma. I'll just buy food in the canteen later." Elvan sulked, passing through the kitchen area and the dining table.

"Breakfast or your car, which one should I take?"

"Why the sudden threat?" Elvan grumbled. With a grumpy sigh, he reluctantly stopped and decided to return to the dining table.

Laras placed a glass of warm milk in front of Elvan, along with a plate of fried rice with egg. A simple portion with delicious menu. It should have been enough to ease Elvan's hunger, but not at all.

"If not, you definitely won't want to have breakfast."

"It's useless, Ma. I'm not in the mood for breakfast today." Elvan stared at the food in front of him that didn't stimulate his appetite.

Laras pulled a chair in front of Elvan, seating herself there. "I don't care, breakfast is very important, and you must not leave for campus without having breakfast."

Elvan let out a long sigh, reluctantly giving in even though he resisted. Finally, Elvan forced himself to quickly have breakfast so he could leave for campus as there was a morning class with a strict lecturer.

"I'm leaving now," Elvan bid farewell, then stood up and walked out. However, at the doorstep, Elvan heard his mother's request again.

"Don't forget, today you have to pick up Nayla."

Elvan reflexively grunted and continued walking without intending to respond. He wouldn't comply with this particular request from his mother. Even when the woman called his name repeatedly, Elvan still didn't turn back.

Arriving at his sports motorcycle, Elvan cursed in annoyance before putting on his beloved full-face black helmet. Done with that, he hurriedly mounted the motorcycle and left the area to accelerate his bike at high speed. However, in the middle of the journey, an annoying incident occurred.

"What's going on there? Really disrupts my journey."

Accompanied by a tone of irritation, that grumble came out of Elvan's mouth when he saw someone being surrounded by a few people. Since Elvan was passing through a narrow alleyway, he had no choice but to stop his motorcycle to check.

"Excuse me." Elvan pushed his way into the crowd.

Upon seeing a familiar girl sitting weakly on the asphalt, Elvan instantly widened his eyes. After cursing internally, Elvan approached Nayla, who also looked up and saw him.

"E-Elvan, please help me," Nayla whispered with teary eyes and a trembling voice.

"Why are you here, silly girl? Seeking attention, huh?" Elvan snapped and immediately helped Nayla to stand up.

"I was hit and run, El --ouch, it hurts," Nayla shrieked when suddenly her knee felt painful as it grazed Elvan's arm.

"You only know how to cause trouble, don't you," scolded Elvan in annoyance.

Surprisingly, he promptly carried Nayla bridal style as he had no other choice. This act made onlookers gaze in awe and exchange smiles at the sweet scene.

"Don't take it the wrong way, I'm only doing this out of pity for you. Nothing more," Elvan warned after seating Nayla on the back seat of his motorcycle.

Nayla nodded slightly, but held back a happy smile. "Where are we going?"

"To the hospital. Your leg could get infected if left untreated."

Nayla's lips curled even wider. "Thank you, Elvan."

"No need, I don't need your gratitude," Elvan sharply replied. Nayla flinched, then just smirked without further reply.

After leaving the hospital, Elvan escorted Nayla back home. Meanwhile, he had to ask for permission because the day was getting late.

Elvan helped Nayla to her room on the second floor. He had to patiently walk slowly as Nayla's injured leg had just been bandaged.

After Elvan instructed Nayla to sit on the bed, he was about to turn around. However, Elvan had to turn back when Nayla held his arm.

"What now? I want to go home," Elvan answered with a cold gaze as he released Nayla's hand.
