A latent wolf
Chapter 2 A latent wolf
MIDNIGHT PACK
AT THE FINLAY’S HOME
Taking slow noiseless and calculated steps through the stairs, Jovy moved stealthily to avoid getting in the way of the rest of her family. The day before had not been unusual, as it was the regular yelling about how awful she was as a wolf. Life hadn't been easy for her since her mother died, one would think her mother dying had put on a switch of despise in her father and also put a terrible tab on her. Her mother, Elena Finlay had made it a point of duty to protect her from the evils of the pack. Being a latent wolf was a terrible deficiency for a member of the Midnight pack because such a wolf was just as useless as a statue. It is believed that Jovy being a latent wolf wouldn't be able to render the pack any use. And that made her father feel extremely disappointed for birthing such a wolf.
However, today was a different day and she didn't want to indulge in any form of altercation between she and her family, most especially her father. And just as she got to the foot of the stairs, positioning her backpack, her next step was to head out of the house when she heard a familiar clearing of throat behind her.
"Damn it!” Jovy muttered under her breath.
The person cleared her throat again, which meant that Jovy needed to turn around. Doing her best to avoid any trouble in the early hours of a school morning, she turned towards her intending tormentor and right in front of her was no other person than Amelia.
"And where do you think you are going at this hour?" Amelia glared as she folded her arms over her chest.
Jovy felt the urge to scoff but she kept it at bay. "And how is that any of your business? You aren't my father!" She retorted.
"See who is talking back now huh?” Amelia chuckled as she rolled her eyes at her.
Seeing Jovy makes her angry every time. Despite the condition Jovy’s wolf was in, she still maintained an extreme beauty that always make Amelia jealous. All of the things Amelia didn't have Jovy had it; Talk of beauty, brains and a wealthy father. Tommy Finlay was one of the richest men in Midnight pack and he was highly respected. The only clause of the Finlay family is the fact that the main heiress of the house is a latent wolf—Jovy Finlay.
As much as Amelia tried to deny the fact that she wasn't envious of Jovy, with a claim that she isn't just a likable person but deep down within her, she wished Jovy would go far away. However, Amelia felt grateful for the unfriendly relationship Jovy has with her father, Tommy. This reason made it easy for Amelia to penetrate his walls and be his favorite child despite not being fathered by him. Jovy and Amelia attends the same high school and Amelia had made it a point of duty to make Jovy's life miserable, both at home and outside.
Jovy took in a deep breath. “You know what? It's of no use talking to you. So I will just pretend that I didn't see you." She said before walking away.
"You and I know I would report you for sneaking out." Amelia told her.
“Did you check time at all? It’s time for school." Jovy replied.
"Don't be so fast to leave, you have something to answer to." Her father's voice came from the top of the stairs.
Jovy’s heart sped in her chest. It has been a while since she actually set eyes on her father. He had taken her far away from the main house to keep from seeing her face, saying, she reminded him of her mother. Shouldn't that be a good thing? One would think she would be his best friend, but he decided to get married again to someone who had a daughter who is of the same age as her.
Ever since Amelia and her mother, Ava came into their lives, her world has been spinning violently and it has dumped her into the trash can. They always had one thing or the other to say about her and it is always confusing and sad so Jovy always does all she can to avoid them.
"What are you talking about dad?" Jovy queried, her wolf already backing out on the sight of the father. Suddenly having her father come in at her this way meant trouble.
"What the hell did you do to my car?!” Tommy Finlay barked at his daughter.
Jovy looked from Amelia to her father, then back to Amelia again as their eyes locked. She could read the room judging by Amelia’s reaction. A lie had been cooked up on her behalf again by her step sister and she had been dished the delicacy.
"I don't know what you are talking about dad. I didn't leave this house all day." Jovy argued.
"Don't you dare lie with a straight face! I saw you drive it out with one of those useless young pack wolf gallivanting around town." Amelia countered.
Jovy felt the urge to pull her step sister’s heart out. It was obvious that reverse was the case and that had been exactly what Amelia had been doing.
"Dad...I did no such thing." Jovy tried to defend herself despite her voice shaky at the unfairness she was being subjected to.
Amelia smirked to herself, knowing how Tommy can be with Jovy so she had reasoned dumping the blame on her since he wouldn't bother to check. The night before she had sneaked out of the house to meet up with her mate, Jared after stealing the keys to one of Tommy’s favorite car—A Phantom Rolls Royce. She had always wanted to have a ride in the car, most importantly with Jared. Ensuring the whole house was asleep, she snatched the cars and drove out to meet him. She switched sides with Jared and they both drove wildly into the streets. The intention was to make use of the car till their fill and return it back unscathed. Instead, they had been so drunk as Jared drove really wild, she had bent down to suck his dick and have fun. In the pool of pleasure, Jared had thrown his head to the back and within a blink of an eye, he had slammed the car rear into a tree.
Amelia couldn't dare to confess to such heinous crime against Tommy's favorite car. Something had to be done fast! Knowing if he woke up the next morning all hell will let loose, with that in mind as usual, Jovy had come in as the easiest target. And she had been right about Tommy losing his mind even though he had not seen the car damage yet. Amelia had sent a quick message to him when she returned saying, she saw Jovy driving in and sneaking back to the Arctic.
In his bid to find out if his car had been ruined, he came out of his room to head to the garage only to find Jovy fully dressed with Amelia by the stairs looking like she was stopping the culprit from running away.
Just as they all stood looking at one another, Amelia’s mother, Ava came out of the room. She gave her daughter a look. It was obvious Amelia had filled her mother in on what she had done and doesn't mind lying on her daughter's behalf.
"Why are you so quick to throw on a pity face after ruining things? You always make it seem like we are being cruel to you when it is just so obvious that you have a thing against your father and wouldn't hesitate to ruin everything that he loves." Ava rebuked.
Jovy’s inner words trembled at her step mother’s words. “Dad, I swear on the Moon Goddess I know nothing about this. I didn't go anywhere with anyone...I was in my room throughout the night studying for my test." She kept on with her testimony.
He would never believe her and she knew it. Even if she swear by the heads of all the gods in the world it wouldn’t change anything. Tommy shut his eyes, trying to keep his wolf in check as the sight of Jovy irked him badly.
"I will find out myself if truly you ruined my car." With that being said, he moved down the stairs rigidly and walked out to the garage with the rest of the family trailing behind him.
Jovy followed behind closely. And she gasped out almost losing her breath at the sight of the car in the garage.
