Chapter 2: This is Not a Transaction

"Knock, knock, knock..." At this moment, there was a knock on the door. "Mr. Reeves, hello, I am the hotel service staff, here to deliver your breakfast."

Miles frowned, placed the check on the bed, and went to open the door.

The breakfast was very sumptuous. Miles glanced at the woman in the corner and said, "Come and eat first."

However, the woman continued to cry. Miles didn't say much and started eating by himself. While eating, he said, "About last night, I will give you an explanation. I'll give you five million, but you can't tell anyone about what happened between us."

At this moment, Claire suddenly raised her head! She looked at this stranger in shock. Five million? Did he think she was for sale?

This man somehow drove Samuel away, came into this room, and now he wanted to give her money to insult her...

The more Claire thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt. Even if she had really been taken advantage of, she would never accept this money.

"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about this."

How could she possibly tell anyone!

She silently picked up her scattered clothes and turned to go to the bathroom.

Looking at herself in the mirror with messy hair and red eyes, she realized how disheveled she looked. She never thought things would turn out this way.

When Claire left, Miles was still elegantly eating his toast, seemingly indifferent to her departure. The check lay lonely on the bed, mocking someone, though it was unclear who.

Just as she exited the Hilton Hotel, Claire's phone buzzed softly with a message from Samuel.

"Claire, I waited for you in the room all night last night, but you didn't come. Were you delayed by something? It's okay, I'll keep waiting. I'm about to take off now. When I return home, I'll bring you a gift. Love, Samuel."

Claire was stunned. He wasn't in the room at all, why did he say he waited all night? What went wrong?

Could Rhea have given her the wrong room card? Or... no, impossible. Rhea couldn't have done such a thing.

Claire put away her phone and looked at the bustling world outside, suddenly feeling a bit desolate. Maybe when Samuel returned home, they would never go back to how they were.

Perhaps it's better to end it like this.

The thought of separating from Samuel caused a sharp pain in her heart, making her tremble slightly.

All of this happened just last night.

Rhea, could it really be you?

The familiar electronic voice on the other end of the phone said, "The number you have dialed is currently switched off." At that moment, Claire realized she had dialed Rhea's number without noticing.

But no one answered.

She walked along the road, reminiscing about everything with Samuel.

From the beginning of their relationship to the nervous joy of yesterday, all the beautiful memories replayed like a movie. Everything was so vivid yet had become so unattainable.

Yesterday they were still joking about their future wedding. He promised to call and text her every day for two years so she could hear his voice and see his face.

But now all of that had become an impossible dream.

Could she really act like nothing had happened and continue calling and texting him?

No...

They couldn't have a wedding or children...

Nothing was left...

A screeching car brake and a sudden phone ring interrupted her thoughts. She snapped back to reality and found herself standing in the middle of the road. A car had stopped very close to her, almost hitting her.

Claire immediately regained her senses and stepped back to the roadside as the car sped away again.

The phone continued ringing persistently. She looked at it, it was Samuel's mother calling.

She wiped away her tears and answered the call: "Madam..."

Before Claire could finish addressing her, Samuel's mother coldly interrupted her.

"Miss Robson, as you can see, Samuel has been sent abroad by the company for further training. When he returns, his status will naturally be different. I never approved of your relationship with Samuel before, I only kept quiet because Samuel liked you. Now that you're no longer in the same city, I hope you can voluntarily leave Samuel and stop entangling with him."

Claire's hand holding the phone trembled slightly.

"I won't hide it from you, there's another girl with Samuel abroad. She comes from a rich family and will be beneficial to Samuel's future. She also likes Samuel very much. This opportunity to go abroad was recommended by her, so we all like her as our daughter-in-law. Miss Robson, you're from the countryside, right? How can someone of your status be worthy of my Samuel? If we were to intervene, Samuel might not agree to break up with you. But if you take the initiative to break up..."

Samuel's mother left it at that. Everyone was smart enough to understand what she meant without saying it explicitly.

She and Samuel were genuinely in love, why did everyone want to tear them apart?
