ZACHARY DANVERS
A mistake. It wasn’t a mistake for him. Thank god he hadn’t taken her up on her offer or she would’ve made him feel guilty for enjoying the sex.
Fuck.
« Fine. » He couldn’t help but snap.
« Okay. » She said and closed her head as she rested her head on the backrest.
Zach frowned at his laptop. He’d been preparing a presentation for a new line in sportswear. But he couldn’t think about anything at that point.
The words seemed to float around. The only words he could focus on was Kari’s. She’d been so eager about it just the night before and the very next morning she was all about forgetting it ever happened.
Zach couldn’t forget it even if he wanted to. He couldn’t forget the feel of her lips under his. Couldn’t forget the way she arched at his every touch. The way she shivered when his hand had brushed her skin when her shirt rode up exposing a sliver of skin at her waist. The way she kept pulling him close as if she didn’t want any space between them.
He couldn’t forget the fact that they were attracted to each other. They clearly had chemistry. Why not act on it ?
Zach had wasted enough of his years dating the wrong women. Now that he felt right with her she was ready to just forget
Fine. He’d forget it ever happened. He’d forget. He would even do one better.
He’d go about his life in Sydney. He could clearly do that right ?
Fine. Decision made.
Picking up his phone he called his friend.
« I’m picking you up at 6. Be ready. » .
« Stop sulking. » Hannah muttered as she put on a fake smile and clung to his arm.
Zach wasn’t sulking. He wasn’t. He was pissed, angry, out of his mind.
He wasn’t skulking at all. He wanted to strangle Kari. Or shake some sense in her.
He was supposed to stay at the cabin and take care of her. He was telling himself that he needed to make an appearance too or else the press would have a field day on exactly where he had run off to.
Zach couldn’t afford that. As much as he liked his fame, he liked his sanity more.
Even though he was miles away from her, he couldn’t stop thinking about her.
Hannah was the sole heir to her wealth. She was a socialite and hosted art exhibitions. She also was one of the annoying women he had dated and hated because they were too busy spending time in faking shit that they never lived a real life.
Hell if they even knew what real was.
Hannah spent her money not for a social cause by any chance. Her time spent in meetings for donations to the orphanage were more about the high end priced wine that was being served during the meetings.
It was more about who spent more on what. It was more about the orphan girls needing a makeover more than they needed education.
Zach wanted nothing to do with this cold hearted bitch but Kari made him call her and arrange the walk in to this party or whatever the hell it was with her on his arm
The moment they were in, he’d slipped towards the bar set up and ordered scotch. He asked the bartender to keep them coming.
It was around his twelfth glass that he noticed Hannah escaping with someone else. He wasn’t even sure it was Hannah actually.
All he could see was a red blob beside a black and white blob running towards the exit.
He downed another shot and he was sure he was gonna pass.
He called his driver around and stumbled towards the exit. Everything was moving so fast that Zach actually fell down. Luckily he was still indoors. God alone knew what the paparazzi would’ve written about his awesome face plant.
Stumbling through the exit, he was grateful that his driver, he guessed, stood near the doorway to help him sit in the car.
Zach rested his head on the seat of his limo and thought of catching a quick nap.
Zach felt the mother of all headaches when he came to. Light streamed in through the window, piercing his eyes. He shut them tight and turned his face the other way.
Somebody was trying to hammer his skull into pieces because that’s exactly how he felt.
He tried to push himself up on his feet but resulted in falling back on the bed on his ass.
He clutched his head and bend over. He sat there for what felt like an hour because it made him feel better
Zach knew better than to drink to oblivion. He never breached the two drink limit ever. After the kind of childhood he had, he had vowed to never drink more than the limit he’d set for himself
He peeked a glance at the room and found himself in an unfamiliar territory. He couldn’t remember anything beyond trying to catch a few minutes of shut-eye in the back of his limo.
His driver must’ve helped him up to the room. He needed to raise the guy’s salary.
Grabbing a nearby bin he emptied his stomach since he had no strength to make it to the bathroom.
Lucky for him there was a bottle of water and two tablets on the nightstand. Definitely a raise.
He sat there clutching his head waiting for the ibuprofen to work it’s magic.
Zach couldn’t help but think about Kari. That woman was the reason why he’d acted impulsively and placed a call to Hannah.
He wanted to know that Kari was no different. She was just a woman like any other that came into his life.
But after the last night charade he knew that she was different.
She was different and fuck if Zach knew better than to tangle with her. She was in danger herself. And since his teenage years he had been like a magnet to women with problems.
The trend had begun with Lily and hadn’t seemed to stop.
But one thing was different with Kari.
She had managed to get under his skin in just a few days.
And Zach needed to change that as soon as possible or else not only him but even his heart would be in deep trouble
