Chapter 5 Return To Hell

"My Alpha, let me become your true Mate tonight. Let me bear your mark."

I watched their bodies begin to entwine. A desperate whine escaped me. The bandages slipped from my numb fingers. At the sight of their embrace, I fled the room. Three years of waiting. Kaelen had never been mine. All night, low groans and the rhythmic creaking of the bed filled the air. I curled into a corner of the hallway, listening to the sound of my world collapsing completely.

We reached Silver-moon City at midnight. Lydia clung to Kaelen's back like vines, refusing to be separated. "My Alpha, we are true Mates now. I will move into your den, where I will bear your heir."

I stared at them, digging my nails into my palms until blood welled between my fingers.

Kaelen ignored her possessive words, turning coldly to his lieutenant instead. "Escort the Princess to her quarters. Ensure she receives appropriate... care."

Marcus bowed respectfully, guiding my wagon through the icy gates. Through the window, I saw Kaelen shift and vanish into the darkness, his form as insubstantial as my shattered dreams. My old room stood empty as a tomb, thick with dust. But my sister Selene's room glowed with light, seeming to wait for something. Drawn like a moth to flame, I moved towards that warm glow. As I neared, Selene slammed her shutters shut in terror, recoiling as if I carried plague. The rejection struck my heart like a boulder.

Stumbling, I turned towards my mother's chambers. Two heavily armed guards blocked my path. "Princess, the Queen is resting. You may see her at tomorrow's welcome feast."

Alone, I returned to the cold, tomb-like room. Sleepless, only despair kept me company through the night.
