##Chapter 3
"Damn it!"
Susie received my call and arrived at the hospital twenty minutes later, furious.
Seeing my paper-white appearance, her eyes immediately reddened.
"Freya..." her voice was choked with emotion.
She grabbed my phone, unlocked it, and was about to call Allen.
"I'm going to curse that bastard to death today! Where is he!"
I reached out with my non-IV hand and stopped her.
I said calmly: "It's useless, Susie."
"He won't care."
Susie trembled with rage, tears welling in her eyes.
"You're just too tolerant! Look what he's done to you!"
"Freya, what do you still want with a man like this!"
Her words pierced my heart like awls.
Yes, what did I still want with him?
3 AM.
Just as I was about to fall asleep, the hospital room door was gently pushed open.
Allen finally came.
He carried the scent of Fiona's favorite gardenia perfume, mixed with a faint smell of red wine.
Seeing Susie keeping watch by my bed, his face clearly showed displeasure.
He walked to my bedside, his voice low as if afraid of disturbing others.
"Feeling better?"
His gaze stayed on my face for less than a second before looking away.
Susie couldn't contain her fury any longer.
She stood up, pointing at Allen's nose and cursing: "She nearly went into shock from acute gastroenteritis! Do you know that!"
"When she called you, what were you doing? Where the hell were you?!"
Allen, being publicly accused, especially with curious glances from patients in other beds, completely lost face.
He flew into a rage.
"I'm here now, aren't I? What are you yelling about!"
He raised his voice, as if to cover his guilt and embarrassment.
"The company had an urgent matter worth tens of millions. Is that not allowed!"
"I rushed over as soon as I finished the contract negotiation!"
Susie laughed coldly: "Oh really? What company contract requires you to spray yourself with Fiona's perfume? Allen, if you're going to lie, could you at least use a more sophisticated excuse?"
Allen's face instantly flushed red.
"You're talking nonsense!"
I watched his clumsy performance and for the first time didn't expose him or feel heartbroken.
I only felt utterly exhausted and deeply ridiculous.
To prove his "innocence" and "concern," Allen began clumsily bustling about.
He picked up the thermos on the table to pour me water.
"The water's cold, let me get you some hot water."
But turning too quickly, he knocked into the bedside table, and the thermos crashed to the floor.
Hot water spilled everywhere, and he frantically tried to clean it up with tissues.
How ironic.
A man who could handle everything perfectly for another person became unable to even pour a glass of water properly when facing me.
He stayed less than ten minutes.
His phone gently vibrated.
He immediately picked it up, glanced at it, then walked to the hallway to return the call.
The door wasn't closed tightly, and I clearly heard his lowered voice.
So tender it could drip honey.
"I'll be right back, don't be scared. How could I leave you alone."
"Just wait for me in the car, don't wander around... Okay, I'm coming down now."
"You want donuts from that shop next to the cinema? Okay, I'll bring some when I come back."
I closed my eyes.
He returned to the room with an unnatural, eager-to-escape expression.
"Um... the company is pressuring me, there's a document that needs immediate processing." He said to me.
"I'll leave first and come see you again tomorrow."
After speaking, he fled like avoiding a plague.
Susie watched his retreating figure, too angry to speak.
She turned to look at me, her eyes full of heartbreak.
"Freya, for your own sake, get divorced."
I opened my eyes, looking at the harsh white lights on the ceiling.
"Okay," I said softly.
