Chapter 7: The Baby Doll (Part 2)
One night, everyone in our house was sound asleep. I woke up suddenly because of my aching stomach. Of course, I immediately went out of the room to attend to my tummy’s concerns. I have been trying to hold it in since earlier because I was too lazy to get up and go to the bathroom. But it had gotten to the point where I wouldn’t be happy with what would happen the next time it rumbles in a bad way, so I hurriedly went on my way towards the “confession room” in order to “get rid of my sins.”
When my stomach and my butt were finally relieved, I decided to pass by Uncle’s room on the way back to mine. I thought he might forget to close the window again and leave us open to burglars. He wasn’t in his room at the time, too, since he was on duty that night.
I was still approaching Uncle’s room when I heard a faint sound of laughter. The hairs on the back of my neck started going up. Who would be the one laughing inside if there was no one in the room in the first place?
While I got closer and closer to the room, the laughing became louder and louder. I felt intense dread. But it was impossible for that chilling laughter that I’m hearing to just come from my imagination. What I heard was clearer than my 20/20 vision. And I couldn’t mistake it for anything else. I’ve heard it many times before.
It was the laughter of Uncle’s doll.
But a thought entered my mind that intensified my fear even more. What if there was a person inside? What if Uncle’s room had a trespasser who had gained entry simpy because he left the window open?
Damn it! I don’t want to chase after a thief!
I gathered all the courage that I could muster so that I could open the door to Uncle’s room.
When I opened the door, I saw that everything inside was quiet. It was dark, which showed me that the windows were closed.
All of my fear went away. Maybe a rat had jumped on Uncle’s doll and that’s why it was giggling.
When I was about to close the door, something on the floor caught my eye. There was someone sitting on the floor. I stared at it for a few seconds until I finally noticed that their head was slowly turning towards me. I couldn’t move from where I was standing since I knew who was sitting there.
It was Uncle’s doll.
The doll smiled at me crazily, and its round eyes moved as well.
I screamed out of fright and my feet moved by themselves and I started to run for my life until I reached my room. I didn’t even look at where I was going. As soon as I went inside my room, I quickly closed the door and locked it tight. I don’t even remember what happened and next thing you know I woke up to a bright sunny morning with the memory still lodged in my head.
