Chapter 2

Adrian moved out of the Valentino townhouse.

Moved in with Summer.

The day he left, I was at the office handling the Boston handover.

He probably picked that day to avoid my drama.

But this time, I didn't do what I always did.

Didn't run to him crying.

Just felt a faint ripple in my chest.

Then shook it off and pushed it all aside.

That evening I grabbed drinks with a few coworkers.

On the way to the restroom, I ran into Summer.

"Gianna, Adrian's here too. Want to come over?"

I shook my head. "I'm with coworkers. I'll pass."

Summer's eyes went red. Her voice trembled, pitched just right to carry halfway across the bar.

"Gianna, I know you hate me. Whatever you do, I won't blame you... It's my fault. I shouldn't have come into your world, into Adrian's world, making you suffer like this..."

Before the words fully landed, she stumbled into the bar counter. Glasses shattered across the floor. It looked exactly like I'd shoved her.

I was stunned. "Summer, what are you talking about? I never touched you—"

Adrian's furious voice cut through the air.

A brutal force slammed into me.

I was shoved hard, my back crashing against rough wall, my knee twisting at a sick angle against the marble floor edge.
