Chapter 5

Zoey pov

"There is a laptop filled with everything, watch a movie or surf the internet. Anything you want and need is there." He hissed.

My eyes widened in shock and my mouth fell open, even my brain froze for a second and I found it difficult to comprehend what left his luscious plum lips.

Did I just think about his lips? Ugh, focus brain.

"What?" I yelled, unintentionally. He didn't flinch or react to my unexpected outburst.

"What do you mean by watch a movie? How do I get paid for watching movies? Who in their right state of mind would do that?" I shook my head.

"I will, I will pay you for sleeping, eating, anything." He declared.

He has gone mad, that's a fact. But I'm not where to deal with his unrealistic and unreasonable words. I am here for work and that is what I will do. If not, I'm out of here.

"Listen, I don't know what you are playing at, but I won't sit here and do nothing. If I am here, then I would be working. So either you give me something to do or let me the fuck out of here." At this point, I was no longer sitting on the comfortable office chair, my hands slapped the desk loudly.

I flinched slightly, shocking myself.

Marco paused, he didn't react to my outburst immediately. I saw his head tilted to the side and shut his eyes. I might have angered him.

But when he returned to his work, he was calm as if my outburst hadn't happened. Either does he seemed angry.

Instead, I was the one getting pissed, I was being held against my will with a silly excuse by an assistant. An assistant that isn't assigned to any errand, bullshit! He couldn't sit there calmly like he wasn't holding me captive.

I opened my mouth to voice out my mind but he beat me to it.

"I've had enough of your ranting, it is either you sit there and do as you are told or I make you. Don't try me." Marco growled, his voice was deeper and bolder that early.

I almost thought he was someone else, his threats sent waves of ice down my spine. If I said he was different from his younger self, now he was completely different, and he sounded so deadly, I wanted to hide away from it.

His whole demeanor right now is dangerous.

As stunned as I was, I didn't have to be told twice. And immediately fell back on my seat. I looked away from him scared shitless.

How did I forget who he is? I let my emotions get the best of me. I was lucky that I was still alive. I'm sure nobody dares to speak to him the way I just did.

He yelled at the man who leads the big mafia gang in the world, the same man that other mafia lords submit to. The same guy that killed a judge in a fucking court and got away with it.

Wasn't I just asking for my death?

There was silence between us, I didn't dare make a sound, neither did I have the courage to look at him.

"Look out at me." He hissed, my head snapped up. Eyes on him.

"I'm sorry I frightened you, it won't happen again." I was surprised at how soft and gentle his tone was.

Is he bipolar? I thought within me too afraid to say a word.

When I didn't reply, he sighed and went back to his work, leaving me in a shocked and embarrassed state.

I heard a knock on my desk, that startled me awake. I was disorganized for a moment before composing myself. I must have fallen asleep from boredom.

Even after Marco apologized to me, I still couldn't bring myself to do anything out of place.

I looked up to see who had woken me up, to see it was none other than Marco. I sat up right and rubbed the sleep off my eyes.

"Come with me, it's lunch time." Marco said. My eyes fell out of their sockets.

What? It's noon? How long was I asleep for? I checked my phone for confirmation, and it was indeed one in the afternoon.

Marco gestured for me to follow him and I did. We walked to a door on the left side of his desk. A door I didn't notice before because a bookshelf was directly beside it, blocking the door from my view.

He punched in the password in the lock, and the door clicked. He pushed the door open and walked inside with me not far behind. What we walked into was a penthouse. A very luxurious penthouse.

What caught my attention most was the glass floor-over-to-ceiling window that overlooked the city. I was tempted to go over and see the view but I resisted the urge.

I tore my gaze from the window, I scanned the whole living area in amazement. Everything and anything here screams luxury, even to the lowest furniture.

I know his family was rich, but I wonder how rich they are now. I haven't been keeping taps on him, I shrugged. I didn't ponder over anything as I rushed after him.

My gaze looked at the table packed with my favourite finger-licking snacks: French fries, doughnuts with chocolate toppings, sandwich, pizza, and apple pie.

And is that barbecue ribs? Wow! I haven't had this in a long while. Precisely, since Marco broke up with me, because his mom was the one making it for us.

That woman was a kind soul, she took care of me like her own child.

I unconsciously swallowed the lump in my throat, and licked my lips. There was also my favorite apple juice and yogurt.

Back in high school, Marco would take us to eat out during lunchtime. And the foods on the table are what we always have.

I wonder why he's bringing things from our past that I'm trying hard to forget, or is it me that is thinking too?

"Sit down and eat." Marco said, snapping me from my trail of thoughts. He took off his suit, and rolled up the sleeve of the long-sleeved white.

"I'm not hungry," I said, even when I'm a minute away from jumping on the food. It is at that moment my stomach chose to betray me, it rumbled and very loudly like it was about to rain.

I went crimson red, I was burning in the flames of mortification.

"I'm sure you are not." He commented, sarcasm dripping from each word. I burn even more.

Why stomach! Why can't you wait a bit longer until we leave here, and you have to handle your problem by yourself?

"Don't make me repeat myself." He took his seat waiting for me to follow suit, twisted my mouth to the side and rolled my eyes. But nonetheless, I complied.

The first thing I tasted on the table was yogurt. I closed my eyes savouring the taste of the heavenly goodness as it melted on my tongue. I took another spoon before moving on to the doughnuts. I moan loudly.

This is the best I have tasted so far.

"Don't do that again," Marco groaned. I stare at him.

"Don't do what?" I muttered, confused. I was just eating or was he talking about my eating?

I lowered the doughnut back to the table, and wiped off the chocolate stains from my fingers.

"I didn't tell you to stop eating, just don't moan like that and....." He grits, grinding his teeth against each other and looked away.

"Don't lick your lips again." He stood and went over to the window, fisting his hands.

He has a problem with me moaning and licking my lips? This guy is impossible.

I shrugged my shoulders and proceeded with my food. He could go to hell if he wanted.

The barbecue ribs were calling out to me.

"I'm a door away if you need anything." With that, he strolled out, leaving me alone to enjoy my lunch.
