Derek’s POV

.

‘Derek…. Derek...wake up now, or you will get late.’

‘Please, Rex! Please tell me that last night was all a dream’, I asked him, without opening my eyes.

‘It wasn’t not. Now wake up.’, I groaned, hearing those horrible words. I slowly sat up, taking the pain killers even though I knew that I wouldn’t need them, Rex’s healing ability had already taken away all my headache. But above all, I didn’t want to move out of the bed. I didn’t want to go to work and face her.

But I knew I had to.

I couldn’t let what happened last night mess with my duties and responsibilities.

I finally pulled myself out of the bed for the morning training. When my training was about to end along with others, I felt her presence and it looked like she was mad.

After finishing my training, I grabbed a shower and got ready. All this time, I kept preparing myself to face Stacey. And finally, I decided to act normal in front of her and wouldn’t bring it up last night. I finally took a deep breath, before leaving my room.

“Morning, Shailey”, I smiled at her.

“Morning Beta Derek.”

“Why are you shivering? I don’t think it’s cold outside.”, I joked to enlighten her mood, even knowing I knew it was her fear.

“Very funny!”, She muttered. “She isn’t in the best mood again. I wonder what Alpha Adams did this time!”, She added, more like talking to herself.

“Thank you for the warning.”, I smiled and left from there, knowing very well why she was not in a good mood.

Yes! You guessed it right, my friend!

I am the reason behind it. I made my way to her office, lighting knocking.

“Come in.”, She said, with no emotion in her voice. I faked a small smile on my face, entering her office. When I walked in, she looked up at me with the same expression which she had on her face last night but I thought to ignore it.

“Can I get you something Luna? I mean your Black coffee?”, I asked politely.

“No. I have already asked Shailey. She will be bringing it anytime soon.”, She replied to which I nodded my head in understanding.

“Have you checked and signed on the files which I had kept on your desk?”, I asked again.

“Yes. I have and from now onwards I will be handling all the Alpha meetings which you were handling.”, I nodded again when she said so. After Adams left, I was the one who was performing all the Alpha duties wherever required. Well, that’s the rule of the pack that in absence of Alpha either Luna or Beta could attend the functions or meetings. “And you will be accompanying me in all the meetings.”, She added.

‘What the hell!

I didn’t like the idea.’

“What? But why?”

“In all the meetings or functions, Betas are required in assisting the Alphas, right? There are still a few things in which I am not very well aware of.”, She replied. “And not to forget, this is a part of your duties, Derek.”, She added, her face blank.

I knew why she was doing this, and to be honest, I didn't appreciate it. She had a point, it was my duties but she lied about the fact that ‘there are few things in which I am not very well aware of’, she knew each and everything about the pack.

“You will need to add me to the bookings you have made for yourself for the hotels you will be staying for rest. And let me know about it by the end of the day.”, She said, turning away from her, getting back to her laptop which she was doing before I came in. “You can check all these files. Also, I have pointed out some corrections.”

“Okay, Luna.”, I said, coming forward to grab the files and turned to walk away.

“Where are you going?

‘What’s wrong with this lady today? Didn’t she ask me to check all the files?’

I rolled my eyes, turning back to face him. “To check these files and inform all the Alphas that you will be joining the meetings with me as you asked me to do.”, I replied, trying to hide my annoyance.

I wasn’t annoyed because she loaded me with work. I was annoyed because she was doing this on purpose.

“You can check the files in my cabin as well. Also, we could discuss the corrections which I have made.”

I sighed and nodded my head before walking toward the couch with all the files. After a minute, I got back to my work but I could feel her eyes on me all the time. I ignored it and kept doing what I was asked to do. Once done, I lifted my head, looking up at her to discuss it.

“I have checked all the files, Luna and..”

“Derek, about last night..”, She interrupted me in between.

“I am sorry for that and please forget everything about last night.”, I muttered, looking away from her.

“No. I am sorry. I should never have done that, it was inappropriate of me.”, She said, a pang of guilt in her voice. I looked at her, she looked sad.

“Leave it, Luna. We both had too much to drink and got carried away.”, I said, smiling at her.

She nodded, not saying anything about it. After that, we discussed the work, and thankfully she didn’t interrupt me again, starting the topic of the previous night. Once done, I informed all the Alphas that this time even Luna Stacey would be joining the meeting.

“Do you think Adams will be there too?”

“I don’t think so. I know that he will be there for sure. After all, he is dating Miss Megan, who is an Alpha daughter. So, this will give him a pass to attend all the meetings which are held for Alphas and their packs.”

“Okay, then! We will be sharing the same room everywhere.”, She said casually.

“Wait! What?”

“Don’t be shocked, Derek. All the rooms provided to any Alpha for their stay is king size. So, there is no problem with space.”

“And what if that room doesn’t have a couch?”, I asked.

“Then sleep in the bed with me.”, She said, sounding like it was the most obvious thing in this world.

Was she serious right now? I wouldn’t share a bed with her. I would love to sleep on the floor instead of doing that but there was no point in arguing about that right now.

“Okay.”, I said in a pissed tone.

“Hey, I was kidding. Don’t be mad at me.”, She laughed while I kept glaring at her. “I promise to behave myself, Beta Derek.”, She smirked.

Oh no no! I couldn’t trust her current expression.

“Luna!”, I warned.

She never said a word, instead, she gave me a wink. I averted my gaze away from her and started arranging the files before leaving. At the same time, I could see her look up from time to time, that evil smirk playing at her lips. I wondered whether it was for Adams or me? What would she be thinking right now?

After a while, I again looked up at her and found her staring at me. I thought she said last night it was inappropriate. Then why was she looking at me the same way she was last night?

I wouldn’t lie but yes I was seeing her differently for a while. But then I couldn’t go down that path, not with my Luna. But then, my wolf was finding himself attracted to her wolf, and not once has he found himself getting attracted to any other she-wolves.

“You seem lost, Derek. What is going on in your mind?”

“N...nothing.”

“You are thinking about me, don’t you?”, She said smugly. I ignored her question and started leaving her office with all the files but she quickly stood up, coming toward me, standing in front of me.

“You look hot when you are pissed.”, She commented on which I glared at her. She chuckled at my expression. “Okay! Okay! I am going to have breakfast. Would you like to join?”

“No. Thank you.”, I replied but at the same time, my stomach showed its presence, embarrassing me in front of her.

“Come on, Derek.”, She said and walked out of her office, giving me time to take a moment to myself. I was only hoping whatever this was, should stop soon.
