Chapter Two: Deadly Errand
Sofia hesitantly turned the knob, sensing her muscles tense as she peered into the poorly lit space. The room was silent, with only the soft noise of someone breathing.
Out of nowhere, a silhouette emerged, causing Sofia to gasp in recognition of Luca. He grinned, his teeth shining in the faint light.
"You're still here, I see," he said in a low and menacing voice. "Don Giovanni instructed me to watch you closely."
Sofia felt a lump in her throat, her thoughts speeding as she attempted to find an escape.
Sofia held the tray close to her chest, her hands shaking. Facing Luca, she took a deep breath in an attempt to calm her nerves.
"I'm almost done," she stated, her voice trembling. "I prefer to avoid any issues."
Luca's grin grew broader, and he moved closer to her. "I also don't want any problems," he mentioned. "I have a task for you."
Sofia's heart pounded as she attempted to brainstorm an escape plan from the predicament.
Sofia's thoughts were running wild as she attempted to locate an escape route. "I am unsure of your meaning," she said, moving away from Luca. "I am simply a server."
Luca chuckled menacingly, a deep, dangerous sound. "He remarked that you have become so much more," his eyes sparkled in the faint light. "You're a member of the family."
Sofia shivered as Luca approached, feeling a cold sensation down her back. "What are you looking for from me?" she inquired, speaking in a barely audible voice.
Luca grinned, his pearly whites shining in the shadow. "I need you to send a message to one of our competitors," he spoke with a hushed and menacing tone. "They've been causing problems for us, and Don Giovanni wants them dealt with."
Sofia was overwhelmed by a sudden feeling of panic. "I cannot perform that action," she spoke quietly.
Luca's grin disappeared, and he moved one step nearer. "You are left with no option," he stated with a tough and icy voice. "If you decline, Don Giovanni will ensure that you suffer consequences."
Sofia was filled with fear as she remained still in the dark, replaying Luca's words in her head. She realized she was out of her depth and had no escape.
"Okay," she murmured, her voice quivering. "I will complete the task."
Luca gave a nod of approval, a satisfied expression on his face. "Okay," he stated, taking out a small envelope he had in his pocket. Deliver this to the address on the front and ensure it reaches its destination.
Sofia accepted the envelope, her hands shaking. She was aware that her actions were risky, yet she perceived no alternative solution.
"What time do you require it to be delivered?" she inquired, her voice shaking.
Luca grinned, his eyes shining in the shadows. "He said tomorrow." "And be certain that no one is following you."
Sofia gave a nod, feeling her heart race as she turned to depart. She realized she was out of her depth and couldn't change course.
Sofia left the bar and experienced the chilly night air hitting her face. She firmly grasped the envelope, pondering how to discreetly deliver it while her thoughts raced.
While strolling on the sidewalk, Sofia sensed the gravity of Luca's words weighing on her. Knowing that there would be repercussions, she understood that failing was not an option.
All of a sudden, she noticed footsteps approaching from behind, and when she turned around, she spotted a strange individual trailing behind her.
Sofia's heart pounded with fear as she hastened her steps, the sound of footsteps reverberating in the darkness. Recognizing the significance of remaining unseen, she swiftly found a safe location in an alley to stay hidden.
Sofia tried to regulate her breathing while resting against the cold brick wall. She admitted she couldn't remain concealed for much longer and must figure out a way to get away.
Out of nowhere, a voice was heard coming from behind her.
"Are you searching for something?" it inquired, with a hint of amusement in its voice.
While Sofia looked at the speaker, she suddenly felt excitement rising in her heart. She noticed a silhouette concealed in the shadows, his identity hidden under a hooded cape, in the dim light.
With a trembling voice, she inquired, "Who are you?"
The man chuckled silently, his laugh conveyed a sense of danger. He proclaimed, "I am what you dread the most." Hand over the envelope to me immediately.
Clutching the envelope firmly, Sofia's mind raced. She realized she couldn't continue hiding for much longer and had to figure out a way to flee.
Out of nowhere, a voice emerged from her rear.
"Searching for anything?" it inquired, with a touch of amusement in its voice.
She was aware that she had to stop the man from taking it, but she understood that she wasn't his equal.️
Sofia's thoughts were racing as she attempted to come up with a plan to get away. She realized she was trapped with the man and couldn't risk getting into a confrontation with him.
Out of nowhere, she saw a fire escape on her right and realized it was her sole opportunity.
"I lack the envelope," she stated, her voice unwavering. "I am aware of its location."
The man chuckled, his chuckles resounding in the darkness. "Where could that be?" he inquired, speaking in a hushed and threatening tone.
Sofia indicated the fire escape with her finger.
The man looked in the direction Sofia was looking, his gaze focused on the fire escape. He appeared to ponder her words briefly, his face obscured by shadows.
"Will I discover the envelope if I venture up there?" he inquired, with a touch of doubt evident in his tone.
Sofia nodded, feeling her heart race as she observed the man. She was aware that convincing him was essential for her survival.
Ultimately, the man gave a nod, with a nefarious grin forming at the edge of his mouth.
The man approached the fire escape while maintaining his gaze on Sofia.
He cautioned against doing anything foolish, his voice quiet and threatening.
Sofia gave a nod, feeling her heart race as she observed him ascending the ladder.Understanding the urgency, she delayed until the man was halfway up, then raced out of the alley.
During her run, Sofia felt her heart pounding in her chest and heard the echo of her footsteps in the dark.
She realized she needed to escape, so she quickly entered the nearest alleyway available.
