Chapter Three

Life in New York City has been fun, especially when I have to play with my cousins almost every day.

There was a lot of freedom over here. Uncle Sylvester and his wife had to go to work every morning, returning at night.

So, there's much I can do without anyone ordering my life. I'm so fucking happy.

I've finally left home, but I'll admit, I miss it so much.

The sun has been so hot since morning and my head is almost burning like hell.

From the inside, I can feel its heat. The children were asleep and I was the only one awake.

I went to the poolside, and sat beside it. I watch a lot of children walk to school, even some that had to be driven by their parents or the school bus.

I'm fourteen and should probably be in my second grade in high school.

Why do I feel like I'm left alone? Why do I still feel like I'm missing something in my life?

I waited for night to approach so I could talk to uncle Sylvester about putting me in one of the schools.

I never expected him to listen to me so easily. I was expecting him to yell or scold me but instead, he just said, " I was expecting you to ask me that since you came. "

Really? I mean, like seriously?

So if I hadn't asked, he'd think I was less interested in studying. Thank goodness for having a smart brain.

" And I forgot to ask, why do you always have that cloth tied on your wrist? " He asked. " You've been having it on since you came here? "

I touched my wrist, shook my head. " It's nothing. "

" Are you sure? "

" I uhmm... I had a bruise, it's permanent and... I wouldn't want anyone to insult or make fun of me because of it. "

" No one is making fun of you here. "

" I'm not talking about in here, I'm talking about outside. You know, especially now I'll be entering into a new school. "

" Can I take a look? "

I looked away. I didn't want to say no, but I made sure it was written on my face.

“Are your parents aware of this?”

He asked and I shook my head.

" Are you scared I'm gonna tell them? " I shrug. " It's okay, it's our little secret now. "

I stretched out my arm and he slowly untied the fabric from my wrist. His eyes widened in surprise, " You got bitten? " I nodded. " Since when? "

" Two years ago. "

" What bit you? A dog? "

I shook, " No. " The memories ran in my head, displaying how everything went. " I got bitten by a wolf. "

" Is it big or small? "

" I don't know, big I guess. "

He sighed, nodding his head. " Okay. Like I said, I promise not to tell your parents or anyone about this. It's our little secret, okay? "

" Okay. " I said with a nod.

The days went by and I was finally admitted into school. It was very difficult to cope with the teachings, but I had to.

I'm under probability this session, and if I make it through successfully, I'll be promoted to the next class.

But if I fail, I’ll have to repeat my freshman year, and I wouldn’t want that.

I was beginning to love my classmates, it would be so shameful of me if I had to repeat and watch them go higher.

Even till now, I can't stop loving the reason why I left home for America.

Sylvester

I haven't seen such a type of bruise before. It's two years now and she's still okay.

I had this belief that when someone gets bitten by an animal, it's either they get transformed by its blood in his or her veins or... Die.

But she was okay.

I opened my laptop, searching for any related effects of a wolf's bite. I saw things that are similar to my belief but... Why hasn't she become like them?

The question kept pondering in my head, that I almost forgot that dinner was ready.

My wife, Ranita, thinks it's something that has to do with my work, and it's just okay for her to think like that.

That mark means something, something I have to find out about.

And if my instincts are actually right about this, then I'm left with no option than to believe that this is fate.
