CHAPTER 1: CLAIMED AT FIRST GLANCE

CLARA

I opened my arms wide, breathing in the fresh air of the Silver Pine town. I glanced around, a huge smile plastered on my face as I stared at the town I just arrived at. This could be a really cool place to relax and gather inspirations on my upcoming exhibition at the museum's gallery show. I noticed a fountain of water nearby as I rushed over to it, my luggage bouncing behind me as I ran.

I plunged my hands into the water as I giggled happily. "Fresh!!" I screamed in my head.

My cell phone rang in my handbag and I reached for it, checking the caller's ID. I hissed out with an eye roll. It was Charles-my ex, who I caught cheating on me with my so called best friend.

I declined it in anger and hurts of betrayal. I blocked his contact right away. I came to this town to cool my head off the heartbreak, I can't let his calls ruin it because I wasn't interested in any crap he had to blurt out.

I returned my cell phone back into my handbag as I began finding my way to my lodge. As I walked on, I noticed several posters hung on the walls, it was indicating an event that was about to take place in the pack. I rushed up to an indigene to inquire more about it.

"Its the night of the Celestial Moon Ceremony, it's a night where the alpha chooses his mate and then there will be series of competitions to test our skills." The young girl explained and I smiled in delight.

"Wow!!!" I muttered, grinning with excitement. That seems like fun!! Just the fun I wanted to have. Trust my stay here would be lively and peaceful at the same time.

I arrived at my lodge and gazed around. It was comfy and suiting. After arranging my stuffs, I lay down to rest for a while, I was exhausted.

By the time I awoke, it was almost evening and I wore an evening dress, I needed to take a stroll. I also took my camera along, there were lots of intriguing images and facts about this place and I needed to capture every single one of them in details.

As I sauntered out, the fresh evening breeze hit me. The atmosphere was soothing and peaceful. Just exactly what I needed!! This was a perfect contrast to do the bustling city I arrived from.

Here was quiet and lively at the same time. As I strolled, I ventured into the woods, the trees were aligned and the leaves and branches were cowered in between each other, casting a shade on its inhabitants. I smiled as I set my camera in place, ready to take a picture.

I smiled satisfactorily after taking the picture. I moved on to study other things. Finally, I got to a lake as I watched the water glow under the dimming sunlight. I marveled at the sight, the lake was pure and the water wavered slowly. Its waves crashed forth and bsck, against rocks.

I was so engrossed in it that I subconsciously began walking towards it. I felt a feminine hand yank me back and that threw me out of my thoughts as I whimpered in fright.

"Don't venture into that lake." She said with a cold stare. "Why?" I asked with an horrific look. What could have happened if I had eventually stepped into it?

"It's a cursed lake." She muttered with a blank look as she began leaving. I stood still, trying to process her words.

"Can you tell me more?" I yelled, running after her but she didn't stop. Snub!! I muttered, sticking my tongue out at her secretly.

She just save your life dummy!! My inner mind screamed as I began wondering why such an eye catching lake as this was pronounced cursed.

"All that glitters is not gold." I mumbled to myself as I began walking out of the place since it was already getting dark.

To think that I almost got into trouble on my first tour!! What fate awaits me next? I thought feeling somewhat scared.

I decided to shake off the feeling when I noticed a group of colourful birds, chirping loudly on a not too tall tree. My heart swelled with excitement at the colorful glow. I set my camera in place, ready to take a picture but a wolf with a silvery fur appeared in the picture.

Swiftly, I shook off the camera, my chest panting loudly. There was no sight of the wolf with the silvery fur.

Or was I hallucinating? I asked rhetorically. I glanced around to be sure but there was no wolf in sight. I hesistated for a while before taking the picture of the birds. As soon as I did that, I ran off. I had encountered too much in just a day.

THE NIGHT OF THE CELESTIAL MOON CEREMONY

Finally, the supposed night I had always been waiting for came. I found myself laughing and cheering with the pack members as they danced and showcased many of their skills. It was so intriguing as I took pictures of all events. This would surely go a long way in creating a masterpiece of art for my upcoming exhibition.

Through my days in the pack, I made friends with a girl named Gennieve- she also had interest in nature and art. To crown it all, we had same taste. Gennieve could be considered as a bad ass bitch but trust me she has cool vibes and can be childish and playful at times.

Then I noticed the girl who saved me from entering the cursed lake, at a corner with another girl. It seemed they were twin sisters because they were identical. I was about walking up to her to at least appreciate her for saving my life but Genevieve held me back with a playful sneer.

"Don't even think of doing that." She warned and I arched my brows. "Why??" I asked, titling my head.

"Ever heard of the snobbish twins?" She asked and I shook my head.

"Well, there they are." She said pointing at the duo who just sipped slowly from their drink, staring blankly at the events going on.

"One of them saved my life by informing me about the cursed lake." I explained with a puzzled look and Gennieve almost choked on her drink.

"Wait..., one of them? It was rumored that there were dumb because they hardly spoke to anyone. I don't think I even know what their voices sounds like." Gennieve said with an hair flip and an eye roll. A habit of hers I had come to learn about.

"Then it's just a rumor because one of them saved me and I heard her voice clearly." I said with a shrug.

"Like are you serious?" Gennieve asked with suprise. "Yes....maybe they aren't just used to crowd you know!!" I muttered. "I'm going to the dance floor, wanna run along?" She asked, screaming crazily.

I chuckled lightly. "No, I've got some things I wanna finish up." I declined and she nodded and blew me a kiss before sauntering off.

As I moved around, taking pictures and sometimes scribbling things on my note pad. I felt a pair of eyes watching me, the hairs on my neck stood up at alert and my body heated under his scrutinizing gaze. When I turned around, my eyes met with him as my breath hitched on it's own accord.

Who is he?

ALPHA RHYS, the Lycan Alpha of Silver Pine!!
