Summary

My Alpha husband came home with his pregnant mistress. “She’s afraid of the dark,” he said calmly. “You’ll sleep in the guest room tonight.” I smiled and clasped the family’s bracelet around her wrist—one second later, light burst and her scream tore through the air. He rushed to protect her, roaring for me to kneel and apologize. I picked up the suitcase I had packed long ago and walked out of that fortress with my head held high. Chapter1

My Alpha husband came home with his pregnant mistress.

“She’s afraid of the dark,” he said calmly. “You’ll sleep in the guest room tonight.”

I smiled and clasped the family’s silver bracelet around her wrist—one second later, light burst and her scream tore through the air.

He rushed to protect her, roaring for me to kneel and apologize.

I picked up the suitcase I had packed long ago and walked out of that fortress with my head held high.

No one knew—the black Maybach waiting outside wasn’t there to send me away, but to welcome my rebirth.

The fortress gates slam open.

Darius's black SUV screeches to a halt in the courtyard, and I know before the door opens.

It's time.

"Gather the pack." His voice booms through the hall's speaker system. "Main hall. Now."

I'm already standing at the balcony when they flood in—elders, warriors, servants.

All here to witness my execution.

Not the merciful kind.

Serena waddles in behind him, one hand on her swollen belly, the other clutching his sleeve like she owns him.

She does now.

"Nine years ago, I took Elena Voss as Luna." Darius doesn't even glance up at me. "Today, on our anniversary, I dissolve that bond."

The crowd gasps.

Elder Thorne smirks.

Predictable old vulture.

"Serena Vale carries my heir," Darius continues. "She will assume the Luna position immediately. Elena, vacate the main residence within the hour."

An hour.

How generous.

I descend the stairs, my heels clicking against marble, each step measured.

The crowd parts.

Serena's pulse quickens as I approach—I can hear it, smell the fear-sweat on her skin.

"Understood, Alpha." I stop three feet away. "I'll be gone within the hour."

His eyes finally meet mine, and there it is—surprise.

You expected tears? Begging?

"The Moonvow Bracelet." He holds out his hand. "Leave it. It belongs to the Blackwood Luna."

My mother's bracelet. My grandmother's. Six generations of my bloodline.

"Of course." I unclasp it, the silver cool against my fingers. "Serena should have it."

"Elena—" Darius starts, suspicion creeping into his voice.

But I'm already moving.

I grab Serena's wrist and snap the bracelet shut.

The reaction is instant.

White light explodes from the silver, and Serena's scream splits the air.

The bracelet burns into her flesh, rejecting her, the ancestral magic violent and absolute.

She collapses, convulsing, blood pooling beneath the metal.

"What did you—" Darius drops beside her, frantically trying to remove the bracelet, but it won't budge.

"I gave her what you asked for, Alpha." My voice is ice. "The bracelet knows who its Luna is. And it isn't her."

Seven generations of protection magic, and you thought you could just hand it to your whore?

"KNEEL!" The Alpha command crashes over me like a physical blow. "Kneel and apologize, NOW!"

My knees buckle but don't bend.

My wolf howls in pain but holds.

I've survived worse than your voice, Darius.

The pack crowds the doorways, phones out, recording their Luna's disgrace.

Elder Thorne leans forward, anticipation glittering in his ancient eyes.

"She'll be back in three days," he whispers to Elder Rowan. "They always come back."

Watch me.

"Elena." Darius rises, rage rolling off him in waves. "You will kneel, or I will make you—"

"No."

One word.

The hall goes silent.

Serena's sobbing fades into shocked quiet.

"Excuse me?" His hand shoots out, gripping my throat.

Not enough to choke.

Just enough to dominate.

"I said no, Alpha Blackwood." I meet his eyes. "I won't kneel for you. Not anymore. Not ever again."

Do it. Give them a reason to hate me. Make this easier.

His fingers tighten for a heartbeat.

Then release.

"Get out." His voice is hollow. "Get out of my sight."

I turn toward the door where my single suitcase waits.

Everything else burned last week. Just in case.

"Congratulations on your heir." I don't look back. "I hope he knows his father better than I did."

The blood moon rises as I walk through the gates.

Behind me, the fortress erupts in chaos—shouts, Serena's wailing, the elders' arguing.

I keep walking.

Three days, they said.

My phone buzzes.

Unknown Number: Transport ready. North gate.
