2 * My dear, sweet grandmother*
My dear, beloved grandmother's house in Dallas, Texas. After all, I was her only granddaughter. I never had the chance to visit, though. I only had the documents for the house that her lawyer sent me. In the years when my father was alive, she would come to our home. I have few memories of her because my father passed away when I was young, and I haven't had the chance to reconnect since then. She passed away when I was a child, and my mother never went to visit her. I'm not sure why, but I think they might've just had some differences.
I can't help but feel like the house is probably in ruins by now. It's been so long since anyone's lived there. I'll definitely keep in mind that it might need a little paint, and there might be a few other things to take care of.
I'm going to get my bank settlement and head to Texas. At least there I won't have to pay rent, and here I have nothing to hold me back. I'm on my own in the world, and I can go wherever I'd like. New York has already made me sad, but I'm staying strong. Fresh air.
I'm so excited to start this new chapter in my life, and I'm feeling really good about the decision I've made. I'm going to bed feeling ready for the next day.
After a few days, I had sorted out everything that needed to be sorted out. I gathered my belongings and my suitcases, and I asked if they could deliver some items to me.
I said goodbye to my little house, which was full of so many memories of my mother. I gave the key to the new owner with a heart full of gratitude.
I went to the bus station and took a bus. After all, I still didn't have a car. I really wanted to get more, but I just didn't have the funds to do so.
It was just a short drive, and when I finally arrived, I could already feel the weather was a little warmer and the city a little less crowded than New York. I hopped in a taxi with my two suitcases and let the driver know where I was going. He took his time getting there, and it was a beautiful drive through the neighborhood. I could already see my grandma's house from the taxi, and I couldn't wait to get there.
I got out of the car and admired the house. Despite having been unoccupied for some time, the house was still very beautiful. It had a cute little porch in the front, and although it was white with very worn paint, it was still charming. There were a lot of weeds around and inside the front, but that's to be expected in a place like that.
I strolled through the woods and took the keys out of the bag I had received when I got the house documents. I had a little trouble opening the door, but I finally managed it, and to my surprise, everything was dusty and smelled musty.
I went inside and was amazed, despite the dust on all the furniture.
I set down my bags and went to explore the rest of the place. There was a big, cozy living room with a comfy sofa, a coffee table, a fully equipped kitchen that was a little dusty, a bathroom right next to the kitchen, and two bedrooms, one of which was a suite. I absolutely loved it! I can't believe it, it was all mine! I was over the moon when the kind grandmother left me this beautiful little house. Now it was just me giving it a good cleaning and tidying up.
I went to a store I had seen on the way and bought brooms, cleaning supplies, and a lawn mower to get rid of the weeds around the house.
I went back home and cut all the weeds around me to make it more livable, then cleaned the whole house because I couldn't sleep with it as dirty as it was.
It was well after midnight when I finally finished everything. I hopped in the shower and enjoyed a snack.
As I lay in the bed that once belonged to my dear grandmother, I couldn't help but think:
"I'm going to change this bed. After all, my dear grandmother used to sleep here, and I know it's not good to have the bed of someone who has passed away." Tomorrow I'll look into it and take the opportunity to get to know the city and see a play.
I ended up passing out from exhaustion.
The next day, I woke up after 1:00 a.m. I was so tired, and my body still ached from cleaning the whole house and from the trip. I decided to go to the market. I needed to buy groceries and look for a new bed.
Once at the market, I bought everything I needed and had my coffee at the café there. I went to a few stores and found a beautiful new bed and matching bedding. They even delivered everything right to my door!
I went to a restaurant and had lunch because I didn't feel like making lunch, and then I went home. I still had to pack a few things, but I was excited to get going.
When I got home, they were already waiting for me to give them the bed and the purchases I had asked to be delivered.
"I think I spent too much time on the street," I thought.
Once everything was delivered, I carefully arranged everything and put my grandmother's other bed in the other room that didn't have one, and I packed up my new bed. I was so happy when everything turned out just as I had hoped.
Afterwards, I turned on my laptop to write a new resume and research companies that were hiring. I sent it by email, and if no company had responded by Monday, I would deliver it in person.
