Chapter 6: Her First Day as His Secretary

Sophie didn't wait until the third day. On the second day, she contacted Sebastian Whitmore's assistant, informing him that she was moving to Hawthorne Manor to be with him. She made the call while Isabella was at work.

Within an hour, Danny arrived with bodyguards to pick Sophie up. "Miss Clark, please get in the car," Danny said respectfully. Sophie was currently the only woman allowed to live in Hawthorne Manor and might become Mrs. Whitmore in the future, so he naturally treated her with utmost respect.

Sophie glanced at Danny and the bodyguards behind him, then at the luxury car, feeling immensely satisfied. After living over twenty years of poverty and enduring people's disdain, this was her first time riding in a car worth millions and being treated with such deference. She straightened her back and walked towards the car.

At that moment, a neighbor lady returning from grocery shopping called out, "Sophie, are you moving? Is this your boyfriend?"

Sophie's vanity got the better of her, and she replied haughtily, "He's just my boyfriend's assistant. I'm moving to my boyfriend's house."

Hearing the word 'boyfriend,' Danny glanced at Sophie. He still couldn't understand why Mr. Whitmore would be interested in such an ordinary woman.

The neighbor lady looked envious. "Such a nice car and an assistant too. Your boyfriend must be very wealthy. You're really lucky. You look so plain but found a rich boyfriend."

The lady had always been straightforward and blunt in her speech. Sophie felt embarrassed and didn't respond further. She got into the car and closed the door.

An hour later, the car slowly drove into the affluent area around Hawthorne Manor. This was Sebastian Whitmore's private residence, while his family lived at Willowbrook Estate. In the vast mansion, a dozen servants only needed to serve Sebastian Whitmore.

From the moment she entered the mansion, Sophie couldn't hide her excitement and greed. Such a big house would be hers in the future.

A dozen servants stood in a line and greeted her in unison, "Miss Clark."

Sophie was thrilled beyond words; this kind of grand reception was something she had only seen on TV.

"Miss Clark, please follow me," Danny led the way and said, "Your room is on the second floor; you can choose any room you like on that floor. The third floor is Mr. Whitmore's private area; you can't go up there without permission..."

As Danny explained the rules, Sophie looked around greedily, showing her small-mindedness.

...

At Whitmore Corporation.

Isabella still didn't know that Sophie had moved out. She had just finished organizing some documents when Chief Secretary Linda approached her. "Isabella, take this file to Mr. Whitmore's office."

The thought of meeting Sebastian Whitmore made Isabella nervous. "Linda, I have a stomachache..."

"Mr. Whitmore won't eat you; what are you afraid of?" Linda saw through Isabella's thoughts and said sternly, "This is work; stop dawdling and go quickly."

Linda was efficient and decisive, embodying Sebastian Whitmore's style perfectly. She had been with him the longest among all employees.

Unlike other companies where office politics were rampant within the Secretary Office, there was no such thing at Whitmore Corporation because anyone who had any designs on Sebastian Whitmore was immediately dismissed.

Isabella had no choice but to take the file and head to Sebastian Whitmore's office.

When Isabella entered his office, Sebastian Whitmore was on a phone call. She kept her head down, planning to leave the file and go quickly. But just as she turned to leave, Sebastian Whitmore called out to her.

"Make me a cup of coffee."

Sebastian Whitmore didn't even look at Isabella as he continued his phone conversation.

His office had a coffee machine and all necessary amenities.

To be a competent secretary, one must know how to make coffee.

Isabella walked over to the coffee machine and started brewing coffee. The large office was quiet with just the two of them inside; Sebastian Whitmore's voice on the phone sounded particularly clear.

His voice was deep, rich, and magnetic.

Isabella couldn't help but steal a glance at him. Sebastian Whitmore wore blue dress pants and a shirt that exuded an innate sense of authority. Though he dressed conservatively, he was incredibly attractive with his broad shoulders and narrow waist—a picture of restrained allure. As she watched him, images from that night flashed through her mind.

This was Isabella's first time observing him up close; he was really handsome. How could she put it? If Sebastian Whitmore entered show business, he would leave no room for others; all women would go crazy for him.

Thinking about how she had slept with such an outstandingly handsome man made Isabella feel both guilty and incredulous.

Lost in thought, Isabella didn't notice when Sebastian Whitmore approached her. "Do I look good?" he asked suddenly.

Without thinking, Isabella replied, "Yes."

Realizing what she had said, Isabella quickly lowered her eyes and stood respectfully aside.

Sebastian Whitmore remained silent.
