Chapter 11: Is He Your Fiancé?

Isabella was curious about what Sebastian Whitmore's girlfriend looked like.

He adored her so much that he didn't mind spending lavishly on Valentine's Day gifts. After Danny finished his report and left, Sebastian Whitmore headed to the conference room for a meeting, and Isabella continued working on her proposal.

Just before the end of the day, she finally finished writing it. She took a deep breath and reviewed it once more, feeling quite satisfied with her work. At that moment, Isabella's phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, she answered.

"Victor," Isabella said cheerfully, "you're back?"

A gentle male voice came from the other end of the line. "Yes, I'm back. You should be getting off work soon, right? I'm downstairs at your office. Let's have dinner tonight."

"Unless something unexpected comes up, I should be able to leave on time," Isabella replied. "A lot has happened these past few days. I got promoted, and Sophie found a boyfriend and moved out..."

Isabella briefly explained the situation. Victor, Isabella, and Sophie had all come from the same orphanage. Victor was now a lawyer working at a law firm.

"Sounds like the whole world's changed in just a couple of days," Victor said. "Let's talk more when we meet."

"Sure. Call Sophie and ask her to join us for dinner. She listens to you more than anyone else. You can also ask about her boyfriend; I'm worried she might be getting deceived," Isabella said while organizing her documents. "Tonight's dinner is on me. I told Sophie before that when you returned, I'd treat everyone to dinner. So it's settled."

During their conversation, Isabella looked up to see Sebastian Whitmore entering the room. She quickly told Victor, "See you later; my boss is here," and hung up.

Standing obediently to the side with a respectful demeanor, Isabella watched as Sebastian Whitmore walked past her towards his desk without even glancing at her.

"Mr. Whitmore, this is the proposal I drafted," Isabella said as she approached him and handed over the document with both hands.

Without looking at her, Sebastian Whitmore tapped his finger lightly on the desk and said, "Just leave it there." His eyes remained fixed on his computer screen, exuding an intimidating coldness.

Was the meeting unsuccessful? Isabella wondered as she waited for him to review the proposal. She wanted to leave on time but noticed that he hadn't even glanced at it yet. The clock on the wall showed it was already five o'clock—time to go home.

Seeing no reaction from Sebastian Whitmore, Isabella realized she wouldn't be leaving on time today. Not wanting to disturb him further, she quietly moved aside and texted Victor: "I might have to work late today; my boss is in a bad mood..."

Sebastian Whitmore noticed all of Isabella's small actions with his hawk-like eyes, having seen through her thoughts long ago. He had been standing outside earlier while she was on the phone and could tell from her expression that she was in a good mood.

It was the first time he had seen her so genuinely happy and relaxed; usually, she wore a mask around him, appearing very fake. Last time she mentioned having a fiancé—it must have been him who called just now; otherwise, why would she be so happy?

Looking eager to leave for a date like someone in love, Isabella had just finished sending her message when Sebastian Whitmore's cold voice sounded above her head: "Isabella, pack up and inform John that we'll leave in ten minutes. You're coming with me today."

Isabella looked up in surprise—another social engagement? As far as she knew, there were no scheduled events tonight according to Sebastian Whitmore's itinerary.

Steadying herself internally against his unpredictable nature, Isabella replied promptly: "Yes, Mr. Whitmore."

She hurried downstairs to notify John, their driver while also informing Victor about the change in plans.

Victor was already waiting downstairs by his car when Isabella spotted him immediately and walked over with a smile.

Victor stepped out of his car in a suit and handed her a gift: "Here you go; see if you like it."

"Thank you," Isabella accepted the gift with gratitude; Victor always brought gifts for her and Sophie whenever he returned from trips.

"I'm afraid I can't make it tonight," she said regretfully. "I have to accompany my boss somewhere for an engagement; let's reschedule."

Just then, a car horn sounded—John urging her to hurry up.

Glancing back briefly at Sebastian Whitmore already seated inside the car waiting for her impatiently—Isabella quickly returned the gift to Victor: "It's inconvenient for me to carry this now; please hold onto it for me and bring it home another day."

Before Victor could respond further—Isabella had already turned towards Sebastian Whitmore's car.

Opening the door and getting in—she greeted: "Mr. Whitmore."

Immediately sensing an oppressive atmosphere inside—the chill made her wonder if John had turned on air conditioning—but there was none according to the control panel display.

"Is that your fiancé?" Sebastian Whitmore suddenly asked coldly.

"Uh?" Startled momentarily—Isabella quickly responded: "Yes."
