Chapter 4: The rules
Emily’s POV
The meeting ended later on, I sighed heavily as I leaned against my chair and watch other employees talk to their colleagues while I sat all alone to think about Logan.
“Does he have to mention what happened earlier? Well, the good thing is that, I am better and no one is looking at me like I am some kind of clumsy freak.” I said to myself in my thoughts.
“You should all go back to your workspace then; the meeting has been dismissed.” Logan said as he walked away with the handsome dude, I saw earlier this morning with him.
“I wonder who that handsome dude is to him; he doesn’t look so bad like Logan does to me.” I shrugged in my thoughts then Dan walked to me with a broad smile on his face.
“Way to go girl! You are ever smart; you will never change. I loved the way you replied him girl” he beamed in joy but said his words lowly, clearly trying not to be heard by other employees.
“Are you serious?” I scoffed
“Yes, you have always been this way since I met you.” He added then Trisha walked to us, she was also smiling at me.
“Welcome to RedRock Emily, I hope it favors you. Your introduction was really fire.” She said to me
“Uhm, thank you for this.” I replied
“Le’s walk back to the office, we have tons of work to do today.” She said to me with a smile.
I nodded my head as I packed up my notepad and my phone then left with the both of them, on my way back to the office, I got welcoming and congratulatory messages from different employees.
Logan’s POV
I walked back to the door of my office fuming in anger, Leo could tell I wasn’t myself but he kept quiet along.
How dare she?
How dare that new employee??
“What is that new employee name again?” I asked Leo before I opened the door.
“You mean Emily? But you mentioned her name like few minutes ago.” He replied
“Why am I supposed to keep such name in my head, it doesn’t even sound pretty and neither does she look pretty.” I scoffed as I strolled into my office and sat down on my seat.
I lifted my legs to my table as I sat to think of what punishment she deserves.
She needs something very hard.
“What is wrong with you Logan, do you know Emily before?” he asked me and I scoffed
“Are you kidding me! We’ve known ourselves since childhood and have you seen me with a single lady? Not even to talk about that maniac or freak Emily!” I retorted and he sighed.
“I asked because you have been looking weird, also behaving weird…like she did something bad to you.” He shrugged then I sighed.
“Yes, she did and you saw it Leo, my shirt! She ruined it with that goddamn cheap coffee of hers.” I exclaimed as I rolled my eyes. Leo stared at me blankly before he stood up.
“Honestly, you are such a freak. Is it because of this morning incident you are still burning in anger Logan?” he asked and I stared at him, shocked at his reply.
“Why are you sounding like it is something little?” I asked lowly then he yelled out.
“Because it is something little and should be forgotten about! It is not like she ruined the shirt by tearing it into pieces or burning it, it was just a stain that could be washed.” He added, half yelling.
“Oh really? You and Emily planned all these against me, right?” I asked and saw him slap his forehead.
“Oh c’mon, of course not! You are being childish here Logan, I am sure she would think same, now what are you planning on doing to her?” he tiredly asked.
“Well, you know that suit was given to me by my grandpa in Italy, I will just take it home to wash but you know she is putting me through stress.” I muttered
“Fine, do whatever you want. I have a family meeting to added in the next one hour so I need to leave now.” Leo said and I sighed.
“Alright, fine go ahead.” I muttered and didn’t take a glance at him, rather I picked up this triangle color puzzle to fix.
“Well, take good care man, okay?” Leo said before he left my office.
As soon as he left, I turned to the door and bit my lower lip in, “Emily, I will not forgive you for what you have done.” I muttered
I just have to come up with something good and something that would frustrate her as well.
After staring at the wall trying to picture one or two punishments, I was finally able to come up with something.
A sinister smile plastered on my face as I moved round my chair, “Good one”
Emily’s POV
We all trooped back into the office and just as I was about to take my seat, a female staff spoke up.
“Emily Collins, I just got a call from the CEO and he wants to see you now in his office.” She said and my jaw dropped.
F*ck!
I stood with my lips apart, employees carved their brows at me as they stared at me like I am some kind of clown or freak.
“Will you quit gawking and go to him now? You want to lose your job?” she asked snapping me back into reality.
I cleared my throat before blinking my eyes rapidly, “Oh, yeah I will leave now.” I managed to say.
I feel like my whole body is being frozen and it is as a result of the sudden call.
I gave Dan and Trisha one last glance before I left the office and made my way to the CEO’s office, I clearly have no idea of where his office is but I was able to make my way by asking staffs around me for direction.
As I stood before his door, I took a deep breath in before placing a gentle knock on the door.
I nervously took steps into Logan's office, hesitating at the doorway. Logan is sitting behind his large desk, looking displeased.
“Come in, Emily. Close the door.” He said with an emotionless face
I closed the door behind me and slowly walked towards Logan's desk, fidgeting with my hands.
“Mr. Logan, I'm really sorry about what happened this morning. It was a complete accident. I didn't mean to spill coffee on you.” I said immediately, I know he called me because of it.
“Accident or not, Emily, you should be more careful. It's not acceptable to make such mistakes, especially as a new staff member.” He said with an irritated look on his face.
Excuse me?!
“I know, and I apologize. It won't happen again, I promise.” I sighed nervously.
“Apologies won't change the fact that you ruined my shirt. But since you're so insistent on making amends, I came up with a few rules for you and you can consider it a punishment.” He said and my eyes went wide immediately.
“What?”
“Did you just question me??” he gasped on his seat and I blinked my eyes like a doll.
“Sir, could you please reconsider? It is just my first day here and I am already getting punishment.” I replied but he scoffed.
“Next time, you would be more careful. here are the new rules for you:” he said as he cleared his throat and began to speak.
“Number one, you will answer whenever I call, regardless of the time or your current task. Two, you will serve me in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Bring me coffee, fetch my documents, and handle any other tasks I assign. Three, punctuality is crucial. You must never be late or keep me waiting.” He said and my jaw dropped
“Did you fall from heaven?” I gasped and his face turned into an angry look
“Are you calling me Satan??”
“Uhm, no of course not. But why all these?” I asked, and yes, I was calling him Satan!!!
“Mr. Logan, I appreciate the opportunity to make it right, but I was hired as a project manager, not as an errand staff. These tasks will consume most of my time and hinder my ability to perform my actual job.” I said stuttering, I hope he understands.
Instead, he spoke up in a cold voice.
“If you can't handle these additional tasks, then perhaps reconsider your position here. But if you choose to stay, here's the final rule: You are not allowed to take any personal breaks during working hours and must always prioritize my needs above your own.” He made his final statement and my eyes only grew wide at him.
My jaw dropped slightly, shocked by Logan's audacity, but I quickly gathered myself and attempted one final plea.
“Mr. Logan, this isn't fair. I was hired for my expertise as a project manager, not as your personal assistant. Our contract doesn't mention any of these extra duties. I don't deserve this kind of treatment.” I defiantly said only for him to give me a sinister smile.
“Well, Emily, you have two options. Accept these rules and prove your dedication to this company, or find yourself another job outside my company. The choice is yours.” He coldly said.
I sighed, realizing I have little room to negotiate. Resigned, I reluctantly nod, submitting to Logan's unreasonable demands.
He’s beginning to irk me!!
“I'll do it, but I hope you understand how unreasonable this is.” I said softly.
Mr. Logan smirked triumphantly, obviously satisfied with his power play, as I left his office, my determination to prove myself in my actual role unyielding.
