Chapter 7
Xavier's POV
Watching Talia runaway into the night, I could only hope she was safe. I couldn't bear it if anything happened to her. My mate… who'd have thought I'd ever use that word.
Throwing the head of the guard to the side, I walked over their dead bodies, as I made my way to the well for a wash. Talia was in heat when I left her, I hope she could hold on just a little longer. Soon, I'll complete the marking ritual properly.
Why couldn't she just be a normal wolf or omega, why did she have to be a rogue? Moon goddess, what kind of tricks do you have up your sleeves. At first, I didn't want to believe it, but my wolf cried out bitterly, becoming restless. The only cure was marking her.
Remembering the taste of her blood sent a fluttering feeling through my body. She must hate me by now. I proved her guilty, but I had no other choice. It was either that, or Logan would have killed her personally. The nerve of these guards, trying to take turns with my woman. Yuck!
I did what I had to do to protect my mate. Soon, Talia, I'll find you wherever you are, and I'll take you far away from all this chaos. The mate bond links you to me and allows me to know when you're in trouble. Sorry I acted cold towards you. It's the only way I could ensure your safety.
“B…Beta Xavier?” Melinda called out to me.
"Yes?” I responded, turning towards her.
"W… What happened?! Gosh! Are you ok?!" She asked concerned, placing her arms on my shoulders as she scanned my body.
“I'm ok," I responded coldly, taking a step away from her.
“Why are there so many dead bodies?"
Because they were stupid enough to want to take turns on my woman.
"We were attacked, they were weak,” i said, casually.
“That damned Xander! Alpha Logan's going to be p*ss*d," she said, smacking her lips.
“There's nothing we can do."
"He requested our presence,” she said, motioning me towards the mansion.
Giving a slight nod, I followed behind her.
“Xavier!" Logan yelled, pacing around angrily as I entered his chambers.
“Yes, alpha," I responded, bowing my head.
“The guard on patrol reported fifty dead bodies. Of my men! Fifty!"
“I apologize, sire. I wasn't quick enough to defend us all."
Letting out a heavy sigh, he smacked his lips, “It's fine. They were dead weight anyways. Spread word for new recruits," he ordered.
“Yes sire, but our town's men of the right age are almost exhausted."
“I don't care! If we run out of men, we'll use the women!"
"Alpha! Alpha!” The messenger yelled, running into the hall frantically as he fell to the floor.
"Speak,” Logan commanded.
"Alpha, our spies bring news. Devastating news. Alpha Xander has found the foetus of Circe.”
My ears twisted at his words as I raised my head. Logan's expression darkened as he crushed the glass in his hands. His face red with rage as he twisted his neck. This is bad. This is very bad.
"What did you say?”
"Alpha Xan…”
The loud squelching of flesh echoed through the room as the head of the messenger rolled beside me. Blood from his body sprayed across the room, his body falling to the floor as my eyes widened.
"I've told you all never to add Alpha to Xander's name! Is he more worthy than me?! Huh?! How intelligent do you have to be to know who is in power?!” He yelled, angrily. "Ugh, clean this mess up. He wasn't fun anyways.”
The guards wheeled the body of the dead messenger away as Logan picked his head from beside me. Joggling the head, he laughed in amusement as he hummed a song. Everyone remained silent, staring at him blankly.
“Bring me the assistant messenger," he ordered.
In seconds, the messenger walked in, his body trembling as he bowed, “G… Greetings, A… Alpha.” He stuttered. Poor guy, he just watched his friend being decapitated.
"Complete the news your useless friend wanted to say."
“Xander has found the foetus of Circe, and he's recruiting rogues who escaped the hunting game into his forces, forming an alignment with them."
“That damned sucker! Hmph! Well," Logan said, looking at the head in his hand, “Catch!"
Logan threw the head into the hands of the new messenger. Tears streamed down his face as Logan laughed at him. “What a weakling," he said in-between his laugh, “Now, I'll only leave you because you remembered Xander is no match for me. Next time I say complete, don't tell me what I already know, just complete the news. Understand?" Logan snarled.
“Y…Yes, Alpha," he responded, trembling.
“Joggle it," Logan ordered.
As much as I wanted to help the poor guy, I couldn't risk it. I definitely didn't want to get on Logan's bad side. It would be detrimental. I could only watch as he joggled the head of his dead companion, tears streaming down his face as he soaked his pants on his way out. Logan laughed as he mocked the poor boy. What a tyrant I work for, huh.
“Xavier, I'm giving you and Melinda a new assignment to be fulfilled in three days," he said, turning to me.
“At your service, sire."
“Capture all rogues, especially my red price, Talia Lockwood.”
