Summary
The day before her wedding, Aliyah walked into her fiancé's bedroom and found her sister in his bed. Mike had nothing to say for himself. Sylvia asked if she could marry him instead. And the family Aliyah had spent her life trying to earn a place in looked her in the face and told her she was adopted, and always had been the wrong daughter. She left. She had nowhere to go and nothing left — except the man she had bumped into on the way out the door. Carlos. Mike's grandfather. The one man in that house who had looked at her like she was worth something. He drove her home. He kissed her. He left before she could think straight. So she went back and proposed to him instead. Carlos is sixty-eight a billionaire, and the only person in his family who has never done anything to be ashamed of. He says yes. Not out of pity — out of something that has been building since the moment she fell into his arms and refused to cry in front of him. They sign the papers the same night. He sends her a wedding gown before sunrise. And the next morning, they walk into Sylvia and Mike's wedding like they own the room. Because Carlos does. A sharp, warm, enemies-of-everyone-else romance about a woman who chose herself when no one else would, and the older man who decided she was the only choice worth making.
Chapter 1
Aliyah's POV
I was expecting a lot of things to happen on the day before my wedding. A party, drinking with my bridesmaids, tearing up at the fact that I was finally getting married to the man of my dreams.
But not this. Not the sight in front of me right now.
I didn't know what pulled me here, why I suddenly wanted to see my fiancé even though I knew I was literally getting married to him tomorrow. But I wanted to see him so I gave in to my instincts and got into my car, excited to see my soon-to-be husband.
The moment I walked in through the door, the scent of a female perfume hit me, numbing me at first. But then I shook the thought off; it could be his mother or his sister. Even his aunt.
I tried to ignore the gnawing feeling of dread pooling in my stomach as I made my way up the stairs, a house that I was supposed to get used to living in once I married him. The sounds hit me before I even made it to his door.
“Oh god, fuck fuck fuck! You're so fucking tight, what a slut you are for me, huh?”
That was Mike's voice. I would recognize it even in my sleep. But he wasn't alone or jerking off to me like he used to claim. There was someone else in there with him. And damn it, the sounds of the skin slapping against each other echoed so loudly across the hallway.
“Mike, please… oh fuck, slow down!” The lady, whoever it was, cried out as her moans echoed loudly and my heart sank deep into my chest.
My fiancé was cheating on me the day before our wedding.
“You love it when I fuck you rough like this, don't you?” Mike grunted, his groans filling my ears, and I moved to open the door, but my hands shook before touching the handle.
“Yes please…” The lady moaned and I frowned, finding the voice familiar. “Fuck me harder than you fuck Aliyah.”
Oh, so she knew me? The audacity of whoever the lady was.
Without wasting any more time, I pushed the door open and the sight in front of me made me freeze. Mike was kneeling on the bed, naked with his dick buried deep in my sister's hole, his hand grabbing her hair tightly.
“Oh my God.” I let out a gasp as my hand slapped over my mouth immediately and they moved apart as soon as they saw me.
Mike immediately pushed Sylvia away from him as he wrapped the blanket around his waist, leaving Sylvia bare while she yelped in shock.
“Baby, it's not what it looks like—”
“Oh, you fucking piece of shit.” I spat, glancing at Mike who tried to approach me. “You couldn't control your dick till tomorrow? You had to sleep with my own sister the day before our wedding? Who fucking does that?” I asked in disbelief, but he shook his head, reaching out to touch me, but I immediately stepped away.
“It's really not what you think baby, just give me a chance to explain.” He said and I raised a brow, turning to him with an amused look on my face.
“Oh? You wanna explain? Go on then. Explain why you're fucking my sister a day before our wedding, asshole! Explain your stupid self.” I said, my chest heaving and he went silent. “I'm giving you a chance to explain and now you can't? If you had not been caught, you'd have walked up that altar lying to me right?”
“No, baby—”
“I swear to God, I'd stab your dick if you call me baby one more time! You cheater! My sister? You had to stoop that low?” I asked in disbelief, turning to Sylvia who flinched. “You always told me you were jealous that I was marrying Mike. This is what you meant, huh? Sleeping with my fiance behind my back?”
“I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking right. I just wanted a taste… just one…” She cried and I scoffed in disbelief.
“How long has this been going on? And if you fucking lie to me…” I muttered and Mike rubbed the back of his head nervously.
“Just today,” Mike said.
“A year,” Sylvia replied at the same time.
I froze as I turned to Mike who glared at Sylvia.
“A year? You were sleeping with my dearest sister behind my back for a full year? Why didn't you just marry her then?” I asked in disbelief, pacing around with my hands on my head.
“Goddamn it, how could you? I've loved you for three freaking years! And you lied to me? Everything you've ever said were lies?”
“No, no baby, please.” He muttered, approaching me. “She came to me… I tried to say no but I couldn't—”
My hand hit his face before I could stop it.
“She came to you and you couldn't control yourself?” I asked in disbelief as he gasped. “You wanna know the worst part about everything?” I asked, my eyes welling up with tears, but I blinked them back.
“Aliyah—”
“Go to hell, Mike. You too, Sylvia.” I muttered, turning away but Sylvia's voice stopped me.
“Can I marry him instead, then?” She asked and I paused, my hands clenching into fists. Instead of responding, I stormed out of the room and slammed the door shut before resting against it.
I expected Mike to come after me. But he didn't. Instead…
“I'm all yours now, baby.” I heard him say to her and I choked back a tear. It was like they planned this. And they succeeded.
I rushed downstairs, my eyes blurry as I made my way out of the house. However, the moment I pushed the door open, I bumped into a hard figure that sent me tumbling backward.
Before I could hit the ground, I felt strong arms wrap around me, bringing me back up. As soon as I met his gaze, I froze, my eyes widening.
