Chapter 7: Broken Engagement
"Goodness, why are you drinking early in the morning after ditching us on your birthday," Sabrina rushed to Shannon who was busy gulping down liquor straight from the bottle.
"Let... Hipccups.... Let me be.. after.. after so many years.. sobs.. " Shannon cried out in between sobs, Sabrina snatched the bottle from her, she had waited the entire night for her. Even her grandparents waited for her. But she was a no-show. Shannon shifted on the couch and lay her head on the armrest. She just came back from that farmhouse. Her friend looked awful, her eyes had dark circles around, and she looked flushed.
"What exactly happened that got you sobbing like a child... I'm curious," Sabrina made a thinking face as she crashed Laura's hair, keeping it off her face. Shannon sniffed and sat upright. Tucking hair behind her ear she didn't even know how to explain.
"I got laid Okey, boom the dancer queen lost her guard and fell into a man's strap" she said dramatically waving her hands in the air. The look on Sabrina face was priceless, and her heart was jumping for joy.
"What? I mean. Was he hot... Cute or handsome?" Sabrina asked as she jumped out of her seat and fell to her knees in front of Shannon. This was good news. They had been talking about this, but she never expected it to happen on her birthday.
"What's with you huh, I told you and here you are saying nonsense," Sabrina lashed out and shrugged Sabrina away before she rose to her feet. Wiping her face, she fixed the white bathrobe she was wearing and tied it in front. Sabrina followed her friend to the kitchen to hear more gist.
"Come on Shannon, just tell me, how did it happen, who the fuck is that God of a man to conquer the mighty queen!" Sabrina from behind the news was epic. Her friend finally had a taste of what it felt like to be a woman.
"Sometimes I wonder why you are like this, I'm starving, did you leave any food," she was drained and needed something to fill her stomach? Sabrina let go of her and walked to the microwave.
"Well I brought your granny's special cuisine, she prepared so much for you, the cake is in the refrigerator," Sabrina explained while taking out the small lunch boxes of food packed by Shannon's granny.
"I know Nana is going to ask questions, damn, everything was ruined," she opened the refrigerator and found her favourite chocolate cake with some biscuits and other toppings she loved. Taking a swipe, she tasted it and moaned in pleasure. Her granny knew just wanted what she loved. She regretted missing her birthday.
"Nah, she won't ask I told her you went out on a date wit a hot man, it was the only way to shut her up," Sabrina blurted out while setting dishes on the counter. Looking up she met with Laura's glare which could drill holes if it could.
"What!?" Sabrina exclaimed in disbelief, why would Sabrina make up such a filthy lie? Her grandparents were aware of her single life. She didn't have a man in her life. Feeling irritated, Laura slammed the refrigerator door and walked up to to Sabrina.
"L-look I had no choice Okey, She was worried so.. well.. I had to lie but guess what ... I was right!" Sabrina stammered awkwardly but squealed in happiness at the through of her lie being the truth. Laura hooked up with a man and got a taste. It was the best birthday ever.
"Argh, so annoying," her friend was something else.
"Still you had a blissful, the hottest birthday ever, I mean, I'd die to get an fuck from a hottie... Aw... I envy you, baby," it was all she desired, unfortunately she wasn't so lucky. Instead of throwing tantrums, Shannon supposed to be happy.
"Whatever," And Mariah called ..I guess the family were waiting for you," Shannon add after a while. Laura, who was sitting down and, preparing to eat paused. She clarified it for her.
"Shannon, she came afterwards.. to wish you a happy birthday... I think you should see them.. maybe one then decided what you want," Sabrina muttered softly, she wasn't on Mariah's side but wished for peace between Shannon and her mother. The two acted like strangers even in public, it was awful to see a mother and daughter like that.
"Fine then, I'll go but only because your b**ch a** convinced me," Shannon said, rolling her eyes and digging into her lasagna. Her granny knew just how she like it, hearing her friend Sabrina jump in happiness. Pulled out a chair and erupted down.
"Tomorrow, today I have clients to see... Jason already sent a never-ending list of them," she didn't even get a breather when Jakson sent her the schedule for the night. It seemed so many men want a butterfly queen. Jason ate her food as she listened to Sabrina telling her about social media and what was trending.
"Oh my gosh, the b**ch was dumped. Oh, gosh this epic," Sabrina exclaimed, starling Shannon who looked up with curiosity in her eyes. Sabrina was busy scrolling through her phone.
"Who got their d**I dumped"
"Amber Kiels"
"You mean the supermodel slash the damsel distress the Kiels heiress and the city's little doll," Shannon listed all the titles given to the prettiest woman that every man worshipped in town. She was like this fruit they wanted to try. But rumor had it that she was engaged to some hotshot from the same status as her.
"Her, this is huge... The city will be shaken... Who had the guts to do this,"
"Look it up, she's not a goddess okay... People get dumped... Even if they are a trillion-dollar Thropy made of gold of glass," Shannon added sarcastically, it was the same news. Men got attracted to a woman, but with time it faded after making so many promises, and now the city's little dolll was dumped. It sounded funny to her ears.
"Damian Reins Grayon," Sabrina said doubtfully, both women glanced at each other as if realising something.
"Is the stupid son of the Grayon family... Mom's adorable little stepson," Shannon remarked disdainfully, she was hoping there was different Grayon in town.
"It can't be.. I'm sure it's a different Grayon... There are no pics of him flying on the internet, but reporters are taking and seeking answers. Why did he break the engagement of five years," Sabrina said, shaking her head? She had been following the sensational doll forever. She flaunted the engagement ring to the world. The wedding was supposed to take place on the very same day.. what humiliations she was going through.
"Probably the d**head found another woman.. men are always like this.. self-importance," Shannon commented sarcastically, she pitied the woman who was responsible for the broken engagement.
"I think you are right, I'm sure he found another woman, people are curious to know who can be more beautiful than Amber" Sabrina remarked, placing her phone on the table and resuming eating. Shannon nodded with her mouthful.
"Come on, let's hurry, I need to buy some new clothes to meet my family," she said, knowing full well Mariah would not leave her alone until she met the family. On the other hand, she wanted to know who exactly was man she slept with.
To be continue.
