Chapter 2: Deep Resentment.

Entering the room where Rose was, she gulped forcefully upon catching sight of him. The dangerous and deadly look on his face could make anyone wish for death, and she wasn't an exception.

Approaching her, Mariano squatted in front of her as she kept shifting backward. He was barely suppressing the urge to kill her at that moment, clenching his fist tightly and gritting his teeth. "Get me more food and those damn drugs!" he growled, and two guards hurriedly left the room to inform the maids about his request. Within seconds, a plate of food was brought in by the guards, who then exited.

He took the food and released a creepy smile, one that could make anyone shiver. "Be a good girl, mother, and open up, okay?" he said, the smile on his face not fading. However, the smile disappeared when she hesitated. Mariano hissed angrily, and before Rose knew it, he grabbed her neck, choking her. She gasped for air, struggling effortlessly to free herself from his grasp.

Dr. Grey closed his eyes, unable to watch the scene unfolding before him. He couldn't speak or intervene if he valued his life because Mariano was a dangerous man, capable of killing.

"You're portraying me as a bad son to everyone. Grey is here with us. How do you expect him to perceive me, huh? Does making me look like a bad person makes you happy?" Mariano expressed with sadness, releasing Rose, who couldn't stop coughing.

The sad expression on his face vanished, and he erupted into maniacal laughter once again. "Don't provoke my anger, Rose. I'm barely stopping myself from from killing you" he sniggered, forcefully holding her mouth and pressing it firmly. He approached her with a spoonful of food, but she resisted.

"Eat before I kill you. You know I don't make empty threats" he threatened. Rose winced, her mouth already hurting from his tight grip. In tears, she opened up and started eating slowly, which made him release her mouth.

"Learn to be obedient, mother. Follow instructions, and you'll be safe, though you'll continue to suffer. Your suffering would continue as long as you live. I'll make sure of that" he said, shoving another spoonful of food into her mouth before she could swallow the previous one.

"Don't force me to visit unnecessarily unless you fancy having your intestines served to the dogs. Behave and await the day of your death" he smiled, gently stroking her hair. "Now chew" he commanded, while tears streamed down Rose's eyes. After feeding her, he handed her the drugs he held. "Use them now" he ordered, and she looked at him with profound sadness. She had turned her own son into the monster he had become, and she would forever grapple with that regret.

The look of pity in her eyes only made him angrier. Who was she to feel pity for him or look at him with such pitiful gaze? She didn't deserve that!

"Did I not make myself clear enough, or have you suddenly gone deaf?" he asked, losing his patience. "I just asked you to take those damn medicines and stop staring at me like that, unless you want me to strangle you right now!" he yelled, his eyes turning bloodshot, causing Rose to flinch.

"Your mere existence disgusts me, but I won't grant you the peaceful death you seek" he said through gritted teeth. Tears rolled down Rose's cheeks, but she quickly bent her head so he wouldn't see them.

She felt hurt, but didn't want her son to get even angrier at her, so she took the drugs and used them.

"If I have to come here again because you refuse to eat or take your medication, I promise to gouge out your heart with a knife. Mark my words" Mariano vowed, and angrily left the room.

Dr. Grey exhaled, releasing the breath he wasn't aware he was holding and folded his old, trembling hands. He stared at Rose and shook his head in pity.

"I wonder what you did to him" he muttered to himself, leaving the room. The guards closed the door behind him.

Mariano stormed back into his room, grabbed the bottle of tequila from the table, and drank straight from it, hoping it would calm his anger. When it didn’t, he angrily smashed the bottle against the wall and ruffled his hair in frustration, blinded by rage.

"Pauline!" Mariano called, and she rushed in immediately, as if she had been waiting for his call.

"Sir Mariano" she greeted, bowing in respect.
