Chapter 1
Sheila
It was our first night together after I discovered that he was my second chance mate.
And for my first mate, a long sigh escaped from my lips.
He died about two years ago, in the shadows of mystery.
I could still remember that night that I saw him, his eyes were bulging out, blood gushing out from his mouth.
It was something that had never been seen before in the history of the pack. It was something that I thought about, it sent cold shivers down my spine and I always shivered hard like a Little baba.
After seeing his body in that state , I cried, I yelled, refusing to be comforted by anyone but eventually, time flew past and I had to move on
Maybe the moon goddess was going to give me another chance to be loved again. And sure she did.
I was offered a second chance mate Fred. He is a mate like no other, showering me with so much love and affection.
I could never have asked for anyone better than him. He was the perfect gentleman.
Always encouraging and supporting me, even when other people thought that I was the demon that killed my mate when in the real sense, I had nothing to do with it.
I could still remember one thing that I was about to be beaten up by the brothers of my previous mate, he was the one that came to my rescue and all by himself, he drove them to where they actually belonged.
I sat on the table at the restaurant where we were supposed to meet as I stared at the wristwatch right in my hands.
He still wasn't around. And I was beginning to wonder what could be wrong.
I drew a really deep breath as I kept on waiting for him but there was not even a single sign that he was going to come around.
I was frustrated and I felt so disappointed. Random thoughts ran through my mind almost immediately because he was not the kind of person to leave anyone hanging just like that.
What if something had gone wrong? Maybe I should go and see him at home to see what was wrong that he could not make it.
I drew out slowly from my seat and I got on the road to get a cab.
I could feel my heart beating so loudly that the sound of it was rising to my ears drums. My hands were shaking so badly that even when I tried to control them with the other arm, it would not stay put.
And what was it, it was the mate bond. Something was wrong with my mate. I could feel it right in the inside of me and I knew that I had to get over to him as soon as I could.
The time seemed to go slower and there was not a single trace of a cab coming towards this direction.
I gasped, gnashing my teeth against each other.
Any further delay could lead to something terrible so I decided to walk over to his place, maybe I was going to find a cab on the road.
But it turned out that fate was not on my side that day as I didn't find any. My face brightened with so much joy as I finally got to his streets and I placed my hands on my knees to catch my breath.
I could feel my legs aching and a stream of sweat flowing down from the corner of my face and ruining my makeup as I continued to gasp for breath as someone had just finished a race.
"If this isn't something that important. I am certainly going to blow off your head Charles." I thought in my head as I pulled off from my squatting position and I continued to walk gradually towards the place
Getting closer to his house, something was off. I could see an ambulance from afar and I could hear noises. I was confused as to what it was that could be happening there.
Then, I saw a stretcher being brought out from his room and my heart froze right on the spot.
I could feel fresh tears forming in my eyes as the fear of the worst took a strong grip on me but I pushed the tears off from my eyes almost immediately.
"It definitely cannot be my Charles." I thought.
I forgot that I had been so tired a few minutes ago and I could hardly drag my feet across the floor.
I broke into a swift run almost immediately as fast as I could.
When I got to the crowd, I saw that they were mourning but I tried as much as I could to convince myself that Charles' was not the center of discussion there. It was so not possible.
"Where is my Charles, where is my Charles?" I kept yelling when I noticed that the house was sealed by the police and the truth struck me.
I ran off to the stretcher and I pulled off the White sheets. But I was met with the worst.
It was my Charles, caught in the most agonizing death. Just the same way that my previous mate died.
Cold shivers ran down my spine and I was pulled off in so much shock and I didn't realize when tears started flowing down from my eyes.
I could not explain the horror that completely seized me at that moment. So badly that I could hardly breathe and my heart was racing fast.
I fell to the ground, shattered to my bone as I continued to yell out in pain. But not just the pain from the sorrows of his death, the bond that was gradually shattering deep in the inside of me.
I could feel every single bit of it. It was painful. I clip my teeth to control the pain but from the last experience, I knew that would not work
Then, I heard a strange sound from behind as though my pain wasn't enough for me already.
"There she is. His so called mate. She killed him. Just like she killed her former mate. She is a witch." She announced and the crowd turned around towards me, boiling with so much rage.
I knew for sure that my life was in danger and I had to run for it if I wanted to live.
With the pain that could only be compared with that of childbirth, I drew off from the floor, facing the angry mob as I stepped backward gradually.
"I swear with my life, I don't know anything about what happened to him," I assured them that they would listen to a word that I had to say.
I could still feel the pain of his death in my heart and this was certainly not helping me.
"Witch murderer." They kept on chanting like a group of people overtaken by some strange demons.
My instincts told me to run but that was certainly going to be a crazy move for me since I would never be able to outrun them with the pain and apart from that, running away was going to be a sign that I was guilty of the crime that they were accusing me of.
While I continued to step backward slowly, I stepped on a stone and I fell to the floor.
I thought that was my eventual end until the police came to my rescue and I was driven home.
"Thank you, sir." I appreciated the officer.
"Don't thank me yet. We will begin our investigations soon. Just pray that you do not have a hand in all of this." He announced it to me and I sighed deeply.
It was really heartbreaking for me to realize that I was the prime suspect in the case of a man that I loved so much and I was ready to do anything for.
I sighed again.
