Chapter 5 Bad News

Chapter Five; Bad news.

My internal organs were burning with anger when William dropped me off at home.

I will so kill Crystal for this.

I barged into the house from far i could sight Crystal leaning against the wall. I walked over to her.

"Crystal! Why the hell did you disturb my night?!" I yell as i get closer to her.

I'm about to grab her neck when i notice the serious look everyone had on. That's not the weird part, the weird part is that there are all in the living room, and no one was arguing.

"You're finally home!" Mom voice said with a depressing sigh.

"Meaning?" I ask, rolling my eyes and crossing my arms across my chest.

"You should sit down, there's bad news," Mom answered and i got really anxious.

What happened that was so bad?

"Spit it out, Mom!" I groaned, so many things were running through my mind at this moment.

"We are poor!" My mom said in a weird tone, her face, expressionless. At this moment, it felt like someone just broke a plate on my head.

"What do you mean we're poor?!" I yell throwing my hands in the air.

"I'm sorry sweetie, but that's how it is." My mom said with her hand rubbing her waist.

Something tells me she has been standing for long, but I really don't care about that now.

"You can't just say something and tell me that! What happened? Where the fuck is dad?! He'll fix whatever the problem is." I scream with anger evident in my words.

"First of all, mind your language! There is a child around." She said gesturing to Steven.

"I'm not a child!" Steven protested and stuck out his tongue.

"I don't know why you're being so dramatic, I'm sure it's something that dad can fix." I say in a bid to calm myself down.

Mom is fond of exaggerating, this isn't any different.

"Skyler, mom isn't overreacting. Ju-"

"Shut up! I wasn't talking to you!" I snapped at Crystal, who was trying to defend mom.

"Listen, your father's company is in a huge debt. Your father couldn't pay them back. Now, they want to take everything from us." My mom gave what she thought was a summary, but in reality, i don't know what I'm supposed to do with this.

"What do you mean take everything from us? You know what? You're useless, I don't know why I'm even talking to you! Where's dad?" I spat at my mother and i could see Crystal send me a death glare from the corner.

"Dad? Daad? Daddy where are you? Mom's talking crazy again." I call, searching for my father around the house, but to no avail.

I return back to the living room, with my arms folded, everyone giving me crazy eyes. "Where's dad?" I ask, still rolling my eyes at the drama.

"Your father ran away." My mom said with venom. I collapsed on the sofa closest to me.

"What do you mean ran away?" I asked, my voice turning shaky.

"I don't know." She whispered, sitting next to me.

I would cry but i wont. I'm stronger than that.

"Dad wouldn't just leave! He's not like that." I say trying to think about why he would run away.

"He w-"

Mom was interrupted when we heard noise coming from outside. We both got up from our seats and everyone rushed to the front door. We all saw a big truck and three big men trying to force their way in.

"Who are you people!" I glare at all three men.

"Get out of my way!" One of said and pushed me aside. Crystal caught me if not, I'm pretty sure that i would have fallen.

They all got into the house and started carrying our stuff and my mom practically said nothing. They took the TV and carried out all furnitures one by one.

"Stop that!" I screamed at them but my mom just held me back.

"Leave them alone, Skyler. They are doing their job." Mom whispered to me and i moved myself from her grip.

One of the men carried a mirror that looked too familiar. That's from my room! How dare they touch my stuff! I walked over to the man and stood in his front.

"Don't touch my stuff! That mirror is mine! My dad bought it from France, you idiot!" I scolded the man but he just rolled his eyes at me.

"Get out of my way! Tell your dad to go stop hiding like a rat and pay up, until then, your stuff will be confiscated!" He hissed at me and pushed me aside.

This is weird, no one has ever pushed me aside before.

Martha and Rex both rushed to us looking confused about what was happening.

"Are we moving?" Martha asked with a concerned look.

"No we're not, Martha. But I'm afraid we don't need your services anymore. We have no money to pay with." Mom said, placing her hand on Martha's shoulder.

No more Martha? What am i supposed to do now!?

"That's understandable." Rex said from behind.

"You all need to evacuate this house right now!" One of the men ordered us.

"Kids, go get your clothes! Take nothing else!" Mom ordered us and we did as we were told.

We all walked to our rooms to pack. My now empty room seemed so dull and lifeless. I opened my closet and took out all seven suitcases i had and filled them up with my clothes and shoes. I wasn'tdone packing, but that's all i could pack with seven suitcases. I dragged all the suitcases to the staircase. Rex was passing by and i called him.

"Rex! Come take my suitcases outside." I ordered him and he crossed his arms across his chest.

"I don't work for you anymore." Get spat back at me and i gaped at him as he walked away.

"Kids, where are you? Let's go before it gets any darker." Mom called and i began dragging my suitcases down the stairs. Crystal and Steven were already downstairs with their bags.

My family stared at me in disbelief when they saw me drag out my fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh bag. While they all had only two to three suitcases, my mom had four.

"How are we going to carry all these, Skyler!" Steven yelled at me.

"That's what we have a car for, dum dum!" I said in a duh tone.

"It seems you don't understand, we can't take anything, not even the car!" Mom spoke up.

"You people are still here? Get out!" One of the men snarled at us. They literally threw out our suitcases and pushed us out the door.

"I can't carry these bags!" I complain.

"Who told you to pack so much!" Steven scolded like he was my older brother.

"I'll call us a taxi." Mom said and went closer to the road, leaving us three standing outside the gate.

"I can't believe we're entering a smelly taxi!" I grumble to myself and sit on one of my suitcases, While Steven and Crystal were laughing and playing.

How can they play at a time like this?

"Come on guys!" Mom called from outside and a man with a white shirt and khaki shorts, emerged out of the car and helped us load our suitcases into the car.

"Where are we going mom?" Steven asked, tugging mom's blouse.

"I don't know sweetie, I really don't know." Mom answered him with a frail voice.

"You don't have a place to stay?" The taxi man asked.

How rude!

"Shut up! That's none of your business." I rudely spat.

"Quiet Skyler! No we don't." Mom gently said to the taxi man.

"You know I'm a taxi driver, I pass alot of places. I al-"

"Get to the point!" I ordered, getting tired of hearing his voice.

"What I'm trying to say is that there's a neighborhood that l passed through today, there's a house to rent." He said, clearing his throat.

"I hope it not expensive, we really don't don't have much cash at the moment." Mom said.

"It didn't look too expensive. But it's quite late, I don't think the owner will be available right now."

"Then why did you tell us in the first place!" I groan, rolling my eyes.

My mom let out a tired sigh, "So what now?"

"You all can stay at my place tonight. I've got two extra rooms, haven't been used in awhile, but you can stay for the night or something." The taxi driver said.

Wait. Is my mom actually considering this man's offer?

She hesitate for awhile and glance at sleeping Crystal and Steven befire facing the front

"I would really appreciate that." Mom said, accepting this man's proposal.

One thing is certain, my mother has gone mad.
