##Hungry for revenge

Lyla’s pov

Darkness. Endless, enveloping darkness. That was all I could remember at first. Then a pinhole of light in the distance, growing larger, brighter, when suddenly, it felt like I was floating in a vast in the middle of nowhere.

There was a woman, unearthly beautiful, standing before me. Her skin radiated with a soft radiance of moonlight and her hair, a cascade of shimmering stardust. She looked at me, her eyes deep and ancient.

“Child of earth,” her voice quivered within me.

“Your time is not yet done, I offer you a second chance, but it sure comes with great responsibilities.”

I opened my mouth to speak but I was void of words, it must be the moon goddess- for sure, that was what she seemed like.

"I am Selene, goddess of the moon," she continued, her voice growing even stronger.

"I will fill you with my power, but be warned: rebirth is not without pain. The mortal body rejects the divine. You must be strong."

Before I could even process what she was saying, she reached out to me, placing her right hand over my heart.

An upswell of energy coursed through me, cold as a starlight and bright as the yellow sun. It filled every fiber of my being, and I felt like I started to dissolve, the starry realm was fading away then all that was left in me was pain.

Pain was the first thing I became aware of as I regained consciousness, pain crushed over me like a tidal wave, violent and all-consuming .

My eyes snapped open, then squeezed shut again as a soft groan escaped my lips. I slowly opened my eyes again and this time, I was completely shocked at the sight beside me.

It was Alpha Lorenzo.

“W… where am I?” I struggled to speak, but my throat parched, the words scraping against it like sandpaper. I touched my stomach.

“What happened to my baby?” I choked out, standing up from the bed but he held me down.

“Stay calm, Lyla.” He gently pressed me down, “The doctor said you should rest properly once you wake up, he said your body is weak.” He continued, his hands firmly holding my forehead.

“What happened to me? I died, I remember vividly that I died.” I pressed further as I tried to stand up from the bed, but to my greatest surprise, I wasn’t weak. I felt strength in me, I felt stronger than I had ever felt.

“…The doctor said you had a miscarriage.” Lorenzo said calmly, his voice weak and his face gleaned with sadness.

“That can’t be…” tears wailed from my eyes, but this time the pain I felt was different.

It was worse than the pain of being betrayed by Jason.

It was the pain of a mother that lost her child even before it was born.

“I need to meet Jason, I need to pay him a surprise visit.” I fumed, taking some steps to the door but he held me back.

“I know you badly want to have your revenge Lyla, but you must take things slowly.” Lorenzo said calmly, I was surprised at how he spoke so softly to me. I’ve always had stories of how ruthless and wicked he was and he was a chronic womanizer.

“How do you think Jason got that video and made everyone testify against you? He has a lot of insiders, if you must defeat him, you need to be one step ahead of him. You can’t challenge him in anger, you need a plan Lyla, and that’s where I come in.” He looked at me for a while then continued.

“I can help you, only if you give me a chance to.”

“What makes you think I can trust you? You might be worse than Jason. What do you want this time, my body?!” I yelled, but he laughed at me mischievously.

“I have over eighty sexy mistresses and you think I’ll lust after you? You need to think again.” He stood up to leave the room but I held him back.

“The feeling is mutual, alpha Lorenzo, even if you were the last person in the world, I would rather become a saint than to have anything to do with you!” I spat on his face, he pulled off my hands with such force that I slipped, almost falling down then he walked away.

Lorenzo was the least of my problems, I knew that I had to draft a plan and I needed to do that quickly. The shadow pack was having their annual ‘moonshine festival’ in a few days and I figured it’ll be the perfect time to show up but I sure needed to prepare for the battle ahead. Alpha Lorenzo offered to train me and help me familiarize myself with my new powers but I bluntly refused.

I didn’t want to accept any help from anyone let alone him.

No

The next day I vigorously stepped out of the pack to train and familiarize myself with my new powers alone, when I bumped into some rogues in the forest. They attacked me mercilessly, even without knowing who I was.

Deep down in me, I knew I could defeat them. I was sure I had the power to, but I didn’t know how to use it. It was then that I realized how much I needed alpha Lorenzo. He was a very strong alpha that had single-handedly defeated many great alphas in the past.

I ran back to Alpha Lorenzo’s pack and found him standing in the entrance. It was like he was waiting for me to return.

“You never learn, Lyla. You never learn…” he shook his head as he looked at me like a child who had just disobeyed her parents.

“I’m ready to train with you.” My voice trembled.

“But before you feel like you’re doing me a favor, I’ll repay you handsomely once I regain my freedom and my pack.”

I walked swiftly past him, I was so fast that I slipped off. As I was about to hit the ground, suddenly, his strong hand grasped my waist, steadying me. I looked up, startled, into the eyes of alpha Lorenzo.

It was then that my wolf, laurel, spoke for the first time since my rebirth.

“Mate!”

I immediately shook her voice away as I forcefully let myself loose from Lorenzo’s grip and walked towards the front door, but his next words completely took me unaware.

“Your pack is having her annual festival in two days, I have a plan.” I turned to look at him, a mysterious smile playing on his lips.
