Chapter 1: Death
Mabel walked into her home, the home she shared with her husband.
Mabel felt nervous, but also excited. She was just returning from the hospital, and she was back with good news.
Mabel held the envelope in her hands, her face radiant with joy. Her hands trembled slightly while holding on to the envelope, she could not contain her joy.
Her eyes were red with unshed tears, which showed how much she valued the news in the envelope, and how much she could not wait to inform her husband, Alex of the news.
When she arrived home, she frowned. The house was too silent, it was as silent as a graveyard, causing a frown to morph on her face.
“Why is the house this silent? And where are the maids? Why can't I find any of them?” She asked loudly, exhaling through her mouth.
Mabel was confused by the lack of liveliness in the house, which was entirely different from what she was used to.
But she did not think too much into it. She was only concerned about delivering the news to Alex.
As she climbed the stairs, her heart pounded heavily. She wondered how he was going to react to the news, she bet that he was going to be more excited than she was when she found out.
Approaching her room, she suddenly heard strange noises, causing her brows to furrow while her eyes squinted a bit causing her to wonder whether she was hearing things.
Her heart skipped several beats, those noises were familiar to her.
She shook her head in her denial that she might just be hearing things.
Breathing, put a smile on her face, and walked to the room, only for the noises to become louder.
Tears suddenly dropped from her eyes, her entire body convulsed in pain, and her shoulders trembled heavily, and she had no idea why it was so.
Perhaps, she was fearful for what she might see if she got into her room.
Mabel had an idea on what was going on in the room, but she was unwilling to believe that her thoughts could be right.
She suppressed the fears in her heart walking slowly to the room, while praying earnestly that it should be the figment of her imagination.
“Who do you love the most?” Mabel suddenly heard a familiar voice ask her a question, and her eyes widened while gasping for breath.
Her breath momentarily stopped as her hands flew straight to her chest after recognizing the voice.
“Of course, it is you, who else am I supposed to love? You and I know I am just playing her,” she heard a reply, and her heart broke as the tears fell heavily from her eyes.
The two people who had just spoken were close to her.
“I cannot believe it, I must be hearing things,” she was unable to believe it; thus, she walked to the room with slow steps.
She opened the door slightly and what she saw in the room broke her heart heavily.
Not knowing how she got the strength to open the door, she found herself in the room.
“Alex!” She yelled, and the devil she called husband scrambled the last piece of his dignity with the duvet.
“How could you?” She asked with disbelief all over her face, she could not believe it, and it was even more awful when she found out that the lady her husband was screwing was her secretary.
“Ivy, I never expected this from you, you are sleeping with my husband, is this how you pay me back after everything I had done for you?” Mabel questioned, tears still in her eyes.
Mabel could not wrap her head around everything which was going on, and she began to question where everything went wrong.
“Why did you betray me this way?” Mabel's voice rang out, barely a whisper, tears escaping her eyes, like she was a coward.
“Alex, I thought we were in love, I thought the bond we had between each other was more than enough, then why did you choose to betray me this way?” Her lips quivered as she questioned him, tears still in her eyes.
Mabel could not hold back as she walked to him, questioning him, and at the same time hitting him on the chest, but it was merely a scratch to him.
Alex remained silent, but let her do what she wanted.
Ivy who was on the bed was unable to take it; hence, she exited the bed, walked towards them, and pushed her away from him, causing her to fall to the floor.
Mabel let out a yelp, she had gained a cut on her arm, and she felt a sharp pain in her stomach, prompting her to hold her stomach subconsciously.
“I am sick and tired of your entitled behavior, let me tell you now, Alex never loved you, he was only with you because of the benefits he could get from you, he loves me only, so you need to get that straight,” Ivy did not bother mincing her words, telling it straight to her face.
Mabel hung her mouth open in shock as she snapped her head towards Alex, who was averting his gaze from her.
“Tell me it is not true, tell me this is a lie,” Wiping the tears away from her eyes, she asked with a beautiful smile on her face, hoping for a positive answer.
“She is lying, right? You love me, you are not playing me, are you?” She stared at him with a hopeful look, praying that he refuted her statements.
“I asked a question, answer me! Did you ever love me?” She yelled with the remaining strength she had in her.
But to her dismay, Alex stared at her with disdain and mockery.
“I did not love you, she is telling the truth, I never loved you, and I will not love you, she is the only one I love,” Alex confessed, pulling Ivy close to him.
“Is that so?” Mabel asked as a chuckle escaped her lips. It was filled with pain and sadness.
“Do you know, I was excited to return home today, I just got good news, I was excited to tell you that you will be a father, I was so excited to inform you of my pregnancy, but you ruined it,” Mabel rambled with a bitter smile, with tears still rolling down her eyes.
Alex shook slightly as he looked at the lady who was in pain.
'She is pregnant? That means she is pregnant with my step-brother's baby, she doesn't know about that, that baby must die, and she should also, she is not allowed to live,' Alex thought to himself.
'But I should perhaps tell her that she has not been sleeping with me, but my stepbrother,' Alex mused to himself. He looked at the Mabel who was not willing to look up at him, but rather, was still shedding tears.
“Mabel, I have something to say to you,” he spoke up, and she looked up at him, wondering what he had to say after all he had done.
“What do you have to say?” She asked, wiping the remnants of her tears away from her eyes.
“Actually, the baby you are carrying isn't mine.”
“What do you mean by that? If the baby isn't yours, then who does it belong to?” Mabel cut him off immediately. She felt offended by his words, as she wondered what had gotten into his head.
Alex rolled his eyes at her outburst, he was expecting her to have such a reaction, so he wasn't too bothered about it.
“The baby belongs to my brother, I do not have any connection with the baby,” Alex declared without mincing his words.
