Lirael POV
"So, how were the presentations?" Nathan asked from across his large mahogany desk.
When I returned to my office after Paradise Architecture’s presentation, I found a message from my brother, requesting an update. I decided to update him in person.
Nathan’s question brought my mind back to the moment Zephyra entered the conference room. The instant I recognized her, memories flooded back — her moans, her body under mine, her sounds of pleasure. I pushed the memory away, leaning back in the leather chair. “They were fine. Some good proposals.”
“When do you think you’ll decide?” Nathan inquired.
I rubbed my chin, contemplating the proposals. Despite several meeting our requirements, only one stood out. Yet, Zephyra's involvement made me hesitant.
I didn’t trust the shock on her face when she saw me. In a city like New York, the chances of my one-night stand and her team bidding on our project seemed improbable.
Back when we met, they would have already been working on their proposal, so she likely knew who I was. If she thought I’d give her team preferential treatment because of our encounter, she was mistaken. I began doubting everything about her.
It surprised me when she claimed to be a virgin at twenty-four, but that was more believable than having her architecture license at that age. It didn’t add up. The whole situation seemed like a ploy. This project wasn’t just a fortune for her company; it could make a young architect’s career.
“Lirael!” Nathan's sharp tone snapped me back. “When will you decide?”
“Soon,” I replied. “Just finalizing calculations. I’ll decide by tomorrow's end.”
He nodded curtly, returning to his computer.
Rolling my eyes, I left his office, stopping by my PA’s desk. “Samson, I need a report on LEED certification status of other hotels near our sites by the end of the day.”
He nodded. “Understood, sir.”
Entering my office, I succumbed to curiosity and searched for Paradise Architecture. They had a good reputation, but I was more interested in Zephyra's background.
Finding her photo and bio, it was obvious she was new with no major projects. Landing this one would be significant for her.
Shaking my head, I doubted she hadn’t deliberately sought me out.
Then there’s Jovan, her ex, I assumed, since she mentioned working with him. He seemed smug, touching her lower back and whispering in her ear as they left. It seemed too familiar for exes.
Or was it all part of the lie?
Frowning, I shook my head. None of it mattered. Business is business, and they seemed the best fit. Emotions wouldn’t affect my decision, but I’d make it clear I wouldn’t tolerate manipulation.
And if she had any illusions about returning to my bed, she’d soon realize how wrong she was.
