Chapter 3: New Man Rumors
Danielle's first month went by so fast, doing a lot of paperworks, taking in calls and scheduling meetings with some old and new clients, coordinating with other company departments about legal matters and contracts.
The old but energetic Mr. Harvey James Neumann, the owner and founder of Neumann Holdings Corporation, announced his retirement and rumors spread like wildfire that his only son would be the sole heir of his empire. Rumors are going around about his son who studied in Europe and graduated as a Business major with flying colors. But not all people are happy about it. Few people said that the heir is just a spoiled child with a billionaire father who fed him with luxuries in life and that he definitely doesn't know how to run a huge company.
It was announced Friday of this week that the new owner would be coming on Monday. They were advised that the twenty-eight year old heir is very dynamic that there would definitely be changes in running the company.
The in-house legal team though was not too affected by it since they always go by the legalities on matters faced by the company.
Danielle took her bag and fixed her things. She looked at her wristwatch. It's thirty minutes past six and she's having dinner with her siblings near Time Square. Daryl made the reservation at a local Mexican restaurant he's been talking about the whole week.
"I'm afraid I couldn't come with you guys tonight." She told Reina who was also fixing her things. The five other interns planned dinner at a local pub few blocks from Neumann, inviting some of the legal team personnel including Reina.
"I'm sure the guys would understand." She assured her with a smile.
"Kindly tell them I won't miss the next one! Have fun!"
She hurriedly walked towards the door and waited for the lift. She was pulling her hair up in a bun when the lift opened and she saw a tall guy in a crisp ash gray suit and a red tie. The man was typing on his phone and only looked up when she stepped in.
Their eyes locked and her eyes went wide in recognition as she pressed the ground floor since the button pressed is basement parking. Her cheeks went hot in embarrassment remembering the last time she saw him.
He seemed to have recognized her, too because she caught him smirking at her. She turned on her heels and had an ample amount of distance away from him. She began to wonder if he's a client or an employee. She's not seen him anywhere in the company until today, even in the cafeteria where most people meet. But come to think it. She discreetly looked at him from head to toe.
I think someone like him would not even drop by the cafeteria for one quick second.
"Small world, Miss Summers." He said when the elevator doors closed.
She didn’t expect he’d actually start talking to her. Her eyes widened. This is going to be a long trip down to the ground floor. She told herself.
She hesitated, her sane self trying to stop the slutty muse inside her from taking over but she failed and asked, out of curiosity. "Are you working here?" The battle is lost between her curiosity and pride, her inner slutty muse and sane soul. She tried her best not to make eye contact, at least.
The scene at the coffee shop played in her head on replay and slow motion. And it makes her blush just by the thought.
“No." He answered, still busy typing on his phone.
"Are you a client?" She knows she's not in the right place to ask him questions but her inner slutty muse is unstoppable. She can see on the corner of her eyes that he stopped typing on his phone to slightly faced her.
"No." He answered shortly after a few seconds of silence and went back to his phone.
The lift opened. Her sane soul feeling thankful. She finally had to stop herself from asking him questions. Two female blondes stepped in, looking at the man beside her. Their eyes praising the good looking creature with them inside the lift. She noticed them exchanging meaningful glances to each other.
She rolled her eyes. She's not surprised. She probably looked worse when she first saw him outside their building. The man is a stunner. His physique proves he's regularly working out and probably eating healthy all his life.
Finally the lift reached the ground floor. She walked out after the two blondes did. The man was left inside. She glanced as she stepped out and to her surprise, his eyes are locked on her as he placed his phone inside his chest pocket.
”See you around, Miss Summers." He said with a slight smile on his lips.
She still wondered what he's doing in their company. And settled with the idea that he's probably visiting someone in the building. A girlfriend perhaps? Did he come here to pick her up?
She remembered her brother picking her up, she called Dylan and he answered telling her he's on hazard on the right corner of the street to Neumann.
She went straight to his car when she got out of the building. "Hey," He greeted her.
"Did you wait long?"
"No. Just a few minutes. I'm starving."
"Daryl better be right about this Mexican restaurant. Let’s go. I'm famished.”
