DYLAN. MD-TECH

Dylan Compton adjusted the reading glasses on his nose and thought about his life currently, his own wife avoided him like the plague and lied to his face, and the banks are requesting for refund of the loans MD-tech took.

It felt like the weight of the whole world depends on his shoulders, and truly, maybe it did.

Michael scarcely shows up at work and when he does, he is always absentminded and acts nervous. He remembered the intense interrogation he had with Michael two days ago; Michael barely kept eye contact as he stammered through the questioning.

A nerve ticked in irritation in Dylan’s jaw as his best friend and business partner Michael barged in an uncultured manner into his office, making himself comfortable on the chair opposite Dylan’s and he lifted his legs, placing them on his desk, crossing over his ankles, wiggling his flawlessly arched eyebrows playfully, trying to taunt his zealous friend.

‘Speak of the devil’. Dylan thought.

Piling aside the documents he had been working on for over an hour, he politely asked Michael to get his feet off his desk, Michael grinned and refused.

“What if I don’t”. Michael goaded just like the daredevil he was.

Dylan pushed out a breath in exasperation and he stood from his chair, coming round his desk to stand beside the still grinning Michael, he had no idea of what was coming to him.

Dylan skillfully lifted his right foot and kicked him really hard behind his knees and he groaned his feet falling from the desk and he clasped the affected spot in pain.

“Your feet looks way better on the floor, don’t you think so?” Dylan asked tauntingly, brushing off invincible dust from his shoulders, he rounded the desk and sat back on his executive chair.

“Fuck man, you been so uptight, how Vanessa keeps up with you acting like a stick has been wedged into your butthole is totally beyond me”. He complained, letting go of his knees as the pain has receded.

He ran a hand carefully over his hair slicked back with quite too much gel, bringing Dylan’s attention to it.

“What in the world have you done to your hair?” he asked in surprise pointing up at his hair that was cut so short it hardly reached his neck. His hair was normally tied in a long ponytail and not even Dylan was able to convince him to get rid of it.

He shrugged nonchalantly and refused to give a reply, running a hand over his lightly shaved beards. Dylan made to stand from his chair and he threw his hand up in surrender.

“Fine, Gabriella wanted me to get a new haircut”. He murmured under his breath, a tiny and barely visible blush staining his hard jaw. That didn’t go unnoticed by Dylan who stared at his best friend in shock.

“Who the fuck is this, where is Michael?” he asked, apparently taken aback.

“What has Ella done with you, she fucking asked you to get a haircut and you did?” He continued asking, sitting back on his chair.

“I think I love her man, I don’t know, she’s different from the others”. Michael confided, rushing through his statement and Dylan stared at him in confusion.

“It’s only been two months Mike, are you sure about it, maybe it just fucks”. Dylan questioned, trying to understand his usually frosty friend.

“See, I am trying to figure it out, I know for sure I would do anything to be special to her, I’d do anything for there to be an ‘us’. He vowed vehemently and Dylan blew out a breath.

“Guess your wedding spread the love fever to me.” Michael joked.

“Do you know she has a little boy?” Dylan asked, narrowing his eyes, knowing that would put Michael off as he can’t stand little kids.

“I fucking want to be a dad to her boy, he is so adorable and...” He said, teary eyed and Dylan interrupted him.

“Shit man, you are so whipped.” Dylan exclaimed, cutting him short.

“Like you are one to judge,” He replied, giving Dylan a killer look.

“I love her man and this feeling is still new to me,” He paused then added, “I am fucking terrified I’d mess it up.”

“I’d tell you one thing man, do not rush her or smother her. Whatever this is between you both is still new just like you said, go with the flow and do not fucking hurt her, I’d be forced to take actions against you as Vanessa would have both our balls.” Dylan advised warningly to his playboy friend.

“I’ll give my balls to see her smile man.” Michael swore and his friend opened his mouth in shock, thoroughly surprised.

This was so unlike his best friend and he seems to really care for Gabriella.

“Speaking of which, how’s Vanessa? I hope she can still walk with her legs closed”. He smirked and wiggled his brows.

If looks could kill, Michael would have been shot twice in the head by the laser glare Dylan pointed at him.

“I was only kidding. You don’t have to be so serious”. He laughed, holding his hands up.

“Why are you here early this morning, don’t you have work to do?” Dylan suddenly asked, none too covertly asking him to get out.

“Actually I am here to discuss the partnership Mr. Gail from GTECH requested from…” Michael started to say but Dylan interrupted him.

“Hell no, that man is as shady as a grey sky and crooked, most of his assets are frozen and he is in police custody.” His lips was pulled in a frown, “And asides those reasons, you and I agreed to make this company solely ours and we didn’t even go public when we had the chance.” He shook his head in disapproval.

“Dylan, this man has loads of money and he promised to pay 30million dollars in cash if he gets 20% share of this company and you and I both know we need this money. Business hasn’t been going well and we are losing customers”. He argued, trying to convince Dylan.

“Don’t you think a whooping amount of 30 million dollars in cash is weird, who does that these days? And we would lose even a greater stream of our clients if we partner with him, do you think our clients aren’t aware of his escapades and criminal record. They would lose their trust in us and withdraw from us steadily.” He reasoned to the stubborn Michael.

“If you won’t let us do this together, its fine, remember I do not need your permission to give him part of my shares. I would contact my private lawyers and they would draw up a contract that wouldn’t involve your signature”. Michael said with a tone of finality.

“Do not do this, you would regret this and there is no way you wouldn’t need my signature, it’s not possible. And we would find a way out of our financial strains that wouldn’t involve Gail-tech”. He pleaded, annoyed that he has to beg to try and convince his partner otherwise.

“My mind is made Dylan, telling you was just out of formalities, I have begun the processes already.” He said, standing from his chair and he left Dylan’s office and he stared after him in shock and annoyance.

“I have to beat some sense into that greedy fool”. Dylan soliloquized as he was left alone in his office.

He glanced at the piled documents he had been working on earlier but couldn’t concentrate as he replayed the bizarre conversation he just had with Michael in his mind over and over.

His eyes wandered to the framed picture of his wife on his desk and a watery smile lifted the edges of his lips.

He didn’t know how things deteriorated between them so fast. In this particular picture she wore a sundress, a yellow sundress that complimented her bright smile and golden brown hair.

The picture took him back to the last time she wore that dress and what they were up to.
