Chapter 2
As we settled down for the night, Jacob moved closer to me, his intentions clear—we had been married for only a year and were still very much in the throes of passion.
I had only just lain down when a sobbing sound came from the door.
"Brother! It’s so dark! I’m so scared! There seems to be something in my room, hurry and open the door!" His sister pounded on the door forcefully.
Irritated, I covered myself completely with the blanket.
Since her return this morning, she had clung to Jacob almost every moment, as if she couldn’t bear to be away from him.
She even lay in Jacob's arms watching TV, feeding each other, making them look more like a couple to anyone who didn’t know better.
I thought it was just them rekindling their sibling affection after not seeing each other for a while, so I tolerated it.
But I hadn’t expected to be disturbed at night.
Jacob, trying to soothe my mood, went to open the door.
As soon as he opened it, his sister threw herself onto him.
"Brother, boo hoo hoo..."
Her eyes were red, her hands gripping Jacob tightly, wearing only a tight tank top and underwear.
"There must be a ghost in my room, it’s so scary! I can’t sleep alone! You can’t leave me alone."
Jacob held his sister with one arm and patted her back with the other, his voice tenderly comforting her.
"Don’t be afraid, I’m here!"
With that, she climbed into our bed and pulled the blanket over herself.
"I’m sleeping here tonight!" she declared, clinging to Jacob. "With brother here, I feel safe!"
Listening to this made me feel nauseous.
My patience had its limits.
Their intimate behavior during the day was one thing, but to sleep in the same bed at night?
Three people in one bed, with such relations—it would disgust anyone, wouldn’t it?
"Aren’t you almost 20? Crying about ghosts and needing your brother to sleep with you, what do you do when he’s not here?"
I mocked them coldly.
Hearing this, Jacob scolded me angrily, "Amelia, my sister is just a bit scared! Why do you have to be so sarcastic?"
"Yeah, before you married my brother, we always slept together, what’s the problem?" His sister protested, clinging to him even tighter as if afraid I would take him away.
"I've never seen grown siblings still sleep together!" I was so furious, shouting at them.
Jacob approached to console me, speaking gently, "Honey, don't be too upset. It's just for the New Year period that we're staying here. My sister is just childish. I'll talk to her more next time, just this once, okay?"
Jacob didn't seem off, so I decided to give him another chance.
I lay in bed, feeling disgusted, and had a terrible night's sleep.
In the morning, my sister-in-law clung to Jacob like an octopus, the blanket kicked off. Her tiny tank top had slipped, and her private areas were barely concealed.
I quickly pulled her clothes back on and woke her up.
"Wake up; there are no ghosts during the day!"
"Go back to your own room to sleep!"
She glared at me reluctantly and got up.
Jacob, still groggy, told her to go back and then cuddled up to me, who was visibly unhappy.
"Let's sleep a bit more, honey. We're going for a photo shoot later, and you'll look better if you're well-rested."
Today was our first wedding anniversary, and I had booked a photo studio nearby.
Thinking about this lifted my spirits slightly.
I had hoped today would also serve as a date day for Jacob and me since he often travels for work and we rarely go out.
Just before we were about to leave, the sister-in-law came out, visibly upset, confronting Jacob, "Brother! How come I didn't know about this photo shoot?"
"Why should this concern you?" She backed down a bit under my questioning look and clung to Jacob, pleading to join.
"I've never had a photo shoot from childhood till now; take me with you, please!" She pouted and whined.
Jacob looked at me; I frowned and turned away impatiently.
My mother-in-law chimed in, "Let's also take Mia along for fun!"
