Chapter 1
One morning in April, the day was cool, and a breeze came through Valery's window. It was nice to take a break from work. She didn't work on weekends, which was a relief.
Her boss exploited her. Being an assistant to a multimillionaire businessman was hard work, especially when he was very demanding. The pay was good, but by Friday, she felt like the happiest woman in the world because she didn't have to review documents or organize meetings all day.
After a well-deserved rest that morning, she didn't have much to do. So, she decided to look out the window of her apartment for a while because the street was busy.
"It's a beautiful day. I hope it doesn't rain like it always does."
Suddenly, a large white truck with giant blue letters that said "moving" on the sides parked in front of her building. She thought maybe a neighbor was moving but dismissed the idea. Everyone knew each other in her four-story building.
Maybe it was from another building. Curious to know who was leaving the area, she continued to snoop.
A couple of guys got out of the truck and started unloading things. Then she realized that someone was moving into the building, not out.
But who?
She was curious. They unloaded a lot of things, but there was still no sign of a new neighbor.
She was starting to get bored looking at the new family's furniture. Just as she was about to leave the window to make herself a cup of tea, a car pulled up behind the truck. The men waved to someone inside.
Valery stood where she was, and she knew then that this would be the new tenant.
Tea could wait!
A man got out of the car, so she thought it was just one neighbor, not an entire family. But the boy caught her attention. He was extremely attractive. Of course, she lived on the third floor, which gave her a good view.
The guy was wearing blue jeans and a white cotton shirt. He had brown hair and a modern haircut that suited him well; his curls were quite cute. From where she was standing, that was all she could see, as the man gave instructions to the young movers.
She continued to watch her handsome neighbor boldly. Spying on him was wrong, but he wouldn't see her.
But how wrong she was. The man looked up at the top of the building and caught her, making her look like the perfect fool. She didn't know why, but she rushed inside her house as fast as she could, her heart pounding like a locomotive.
"What a scare!" she said aloud. "But who the hell told me to snoop on the neighbors?" She shook her head with a nervous smile.
After a few long minutes, she heard footsteps and banging upstairs. She knew immediately that her new neighbor lived on the floor above her.
"At least we're not on the same floor. I'd die of embarrassment if I ran into him in the hallway," she said to herself as she picked up a book to distract herself for a while.
She spent that Saturday morning quietly, except for the noise coming from upstairs. She just hoped it wouldn't continue into the evening. After eating a light lunch, she returned to the sofa to watch a movie, feeling like she was forgetting something.
