Chapter 1
A Car for the Mistress?
Upon receiving the news that my father was getting married, I immediately flew back home from abroad where I was doing business. It had been many years since I last saw my father. Ever since my mother passed away, he had been living alone, which always worried me. Now, he finally found his own happiness. So, I carefully prepared myself to attend his wedding in the best possible state.
Unexpectedly, the day before the wedding, my father called to say he had a fight with his fiancée. "Dad, why did you argue? Your wedding is tomorrow," I asked over the phone. My father angrily replied, "Bertha Louis accused me of having an affair with another woman! It's ridiculous. How could I do such a thing?" I chuckled lightly. So that was what happened. Maybe because the wedding was approaching, Bertha felt insecure and became suspicious. I decided to visit her before the wedding to comfort her and clear up the misunderstanding for my father. I heard she liked Ferraris, so I bought one as a wedding gift for her.
The next day, I personally picked up the car and drove it to the wedding venue early. The elegant silver Ferrari drew gasps from onlookers as it appeared. "Oh my God, what car is that?" "It's a Ferrari! Super expensive!" "Who could be so rich?" I got out of the car and put the keys in a gift box, ready to present it to Bertha later.
A group of women curiously eyed me, wondering about my identity. I politely asked one of them where the bride was. "She's in the makeup room on the first floor."
"Hello, is Bertha Louis here?" I gently knocked on the makeup room door. The door opened. The makeup artist who answered scrutinized me from head to toe and frowned in confusion. "Who are you?" "I'm Zachary Spencer's..." Before I could finish my sentence, a slap landed on my face unexpectedly, causing a burning pain that made me dizzy on the spot.
Shocked, I held my face and looked at the person who hit me. A beautiful middle-aged woman in a wedding dress glared at me angrily and yanked my hair, dragging me outside. She cursed through gritted teeth, "You bitch! Zachary hid you well so I couldn't find you, but you actually showed up on our wedding day!"
The sudden pain and harsh insults made me feel both hurt and humiliated.
All the guests outside the makeup room watched us with great interest. They didn't expect to witness such a dramatic scene at a wedding. "Look, everyone, this is the mistress! Not only did she ruin my relationship with my man, butwas going to sabotage my wedding!" Bertha loudly accused me in public while pointing at me.
"Oh my God. Isn't she the girl who arrived in that Ferrari earlier?" "Is she Zachary's mistress?" "I thought she was some wealthy lady. It turns out she's just a mistress." "So Zachary brought her that Ferrari?" "How shameless. Driving her lover's car to flaunt it in front of his fiancée!"
Bertha Louis caught onto their words and asked suspiciously, "What? Ferrari?"
She immediately rushed out and saw the luxurious Ferrari parked on the lawn. She trembled with rage, her chest heaving violently. Bertha turned back inside and once again grabbed my hair, pushing me to the ground. Several of her friends swarmed over and started hitting and kicking me.
Enduring the pain on my face, I tried to explain, "Bertha, you misunderstood. I'm..."
