Chapter 5: Spark?
Five songs later they reached Andrea's building that she had lived on for four years.
"I'll see you to your door," he said as he got out of his door. Andrea waited for him to open hers because she does not want to see him offended. He likes opening doors for woman, at least that was what he does all the time.
They walked and rode the elevator in companionable silence to her apartment. Lance found Andrea's understanding one of her endearing personalities. She can understand things better than most people he had engaged with. And her understanding him not wanting to talk about his hidden feelings for her mother makes him want to say it to her. But thought better of it.
"Thank you for the ride," Andrea said as they stop in front of her apartment door.
"Sure thing, sweet cheeks," he beamed at her.
She pouted, "You promised me you won't call me that," she pointed out.
He creased his brow, "I remember making a deal of not calling you kiddo in exchange of you not calling me uncle," he said.
Andrea pondered and her eyes widened as realization dawned to her, "Aw, shucks!"
He laughed and mess up her hair.
"Stop it," she said, and he did.
Andrea smoothened her hair and looked at Lance and remembered his misfortune and before realizing what she's doing she hugged him. He stiffened for a moment, taken by surprise but as Andrea's arms relax around him and her face snuggled close to his chest, he found himself hugging her back and kissing the top of her head.
She pulled back a little to look at him and for the first time in her life, she realized how amazingly handsome he is, with his jet-black hair that is too long and yet made him look more manly, his perfect set of jaw, cheekbones, nose and his half-full lips and last but not the least, his eyes. Those grayish blue orbs that made him look angelic amidst his dangerous dark features. She nearly laughed at herself as she thought back to the time she was in high school and he would come pick her up, the girl population just gravitate towards him like he is the very center of the universe.
Yes, she knew he was handsome, but she never would have imagined him beyond it. Never, until now.
Lance looked at Andrea and saw how she looked at him like it was the first time she ever did saw him, her green eyes glistening with familiarity, her lips curved in a rather sexy and beautiful half smile that a lot of guys would kill to see. He felt some familiarity with the look she gave him, but he couldn't quite point out what.
They're little eye contact was ruined by the sudden ding of the elevator causing them to look and move away from each other, both slightly embarrassed with what had happened.
Andrea recovered and reached inside her purse for her keys and fiddled with it, looking for the right one. She found it and without wasting a second, opened her door.
"Good night," she said hastily, and kissed Lance's cheek before she got in and close the door firmly.
"Good night," he said and after a good shake of his head, he walked to the elevators and exit the building.
