The Missed Event
Chloe quickly got on her feet and ran off without looking back. She ran down using the cumbersome stairs. When she finally got down, she held her chest.
"I'm going to die at this rate. What is she doing here?" Chloe wondered, pulling away the mask. "She didn't see me, right?" She thought.
*
"Why did you get drunk? It doesn't fit you" Danielle said as she covered him with the duvet. She had undressed him and arranged the room as well.
"You" He moaned after catching a glimpse of her.
"What now?" She asked, placing a flask on the desk. "Mum was worried and wondered why you didn't say goodbye before leaving. You weren't picking your calls either when she called. So, she asked me to come to your place and check up on you. She also made this dishes herself and persists you eat them tonight or tomorrow morning"
Dylan only hummed.
"Since you feel sleepy, I'm going to keep them in the refrigerator. Make sure to warm it later and most especially, do eat it. Thanks" She said and grabbed the flask handle whilst proceeding to the kitchen.
"Danielle" Dylan whispered, causing her to halt. She swallowed hard and turned her head slightly.
"What?" She asked softly.
"Hope you didn't lavish that money? I hope you used it right?" He asked.
Danielle bit her lip and walked away without replying. She opened the refrigerator and dropped the flask. Then, walked out of the house.
She looked at the door the last time before walking into the elevator. While in there, she brought out her phone and called someone.
"Hello Clover?" She whispered.
"Yes baby" He answered.
"Can you tell me the truth?" She asked.
"What's that?" He inquired.
Danielle gulped and clenched her left fist. "What did you use that billion dollar for?"
A sigh escaped out of his mouth."You still don't want to believe me? I told you before, dearest. My mother is very ill and she needs a transplant. The money isn't even enough for the oxygen the hospital offers her each day. Should I give you back? Do you want it back?"
"I'm sorry, Clover. I…I just…I'm sorry"
"It's fine. Let's talk later" Clover said and hung up. Danielle sighed and tightened her grip on her phone.
The elevator finally opened when it got down and she left. Immediately she did, Chloe who was hiding somewhere waiting for her quickly entering the closing elevator and sighed in relief.
She was glad that she didn't bump on Dylan on the way. After locking herself inside her apartment, she remembered Clover and called him immediately.
"Hello Clover?" She said after the call got accepted.
"Oh Chloe! Finally, you called as promised" Clover's voice sounded.
"I want to tell you about Ariel. Why she never made it to you that day"
"Yeah, sure" He nodded his head.
"Actually… Ariel got into an accident that day. I'm glad she isn't in a critical condition. However, she is in coma" Chloe said flaring her nostrils.
"Geez! I'm sorry about that. If you don't mind, Can I come visit her at the hospital?" Clover sounded so worried and sincere.
"Why not? I'm going to follow you, but that should be during the weekend. Besides, I have other bills to take care of at the hospital" She explained.
"You don't have to worry. I'll try my best to help in whatever way I can"
"Thank you, Clover. I'll send you a text during the weekend"
"Sure thing. I'll be waiting" He said and she ended the call.
Chloe looked at her phone screen and smiled. "Maybe he's worth it after all"

THE NEXT MORNING~
Dylan groaned and flung his eyes open quickly. He held his aching head and looked around his tidied room.
"Can't believe I drank throughout yesterday. I didn't even go back to work. What a good CEO you are" He scoffed and lazily got up from the bed.
He shuffled his feet to the bathroom to wash up and get ready for work. But when he remembered the huge money which Chloe took from his account, a scowl formed on his handsome face and few lines appeared on his smooth forehead.
"I don't trust that girl one bit. She must have squandered that money anyhow" He squinted his eyes while staring at his reflection in the huge mirror.
Dylan sighed deeply and took the toothbrush in the readiness to brush his teeth.
*
"He's here" Chloe smiled to herself as she watched Dylan walk smartly with the employees greeting him respectfully.
Dylan moved to her and she bowed her head briefly. "Good morning, sir" She greeted and he nodded.
"What's on my schedule this morning?" He asked.
"Sir? Concerning yesterday, you missed an important event held by a commissioner. You were supposed to be on the VIP seat"
Dylan faced her and Chloe swallowed hard. She could see the annoyance on his face.
"I'm sorry sir, but it's just that the commissioner who personally invited you will be disappointed. Assuming you knew you wouldn't attend, you could have rejected it when he sent you the invitation via email"
Dylan scoffed. "You've grown some liver over the last few days, Miss Ariel Peterson"
Chloe sighed and took her eyes down.
"Anyway, since you care too much about the commissioner's feelings, send an apology letter to him on my behalf" He said and proceeded to leave.
"Sir!" She suddenly called, causing him to halt. Dylan blinked his eyes a hundred times before turning over.
"Yes, Miss Ariel?" He asked, gritting his teeth.
"I...I already told him something else"
"What?" He asked calmly, tilting his neck a little.
Chloe clenched her jaw and inhaled. "Mr. Samuel Campbell..."
"The commissioner?"
"Yes"
"So, what did you tell him?" He asked.
"I told him… you would come to his office today"
"Excuse me?. Wait, what! To do what?" He asked sharply, cutting her off instantly.
Chloe shivered. "To apologize for missing yesterday's event"
"Huh!"
