Chapter 2

I quickly adjusted my emotions and contacted my father, agreeing to join the company and requested to start from the grassroots level.

After all, the grassroots are the foundation of the entire group. If I were to inherit the company in the future, I must first understand its internal workings.

On my first day at work, unfortunately, I ran into Jasper and Laura again.

Laura was my immediate superior. She grabbed my intern badge and arrogantly said, "Bella?"

"Are you the woman who chased us to our wedding that day?"

"Women nowadays are really shameless, following us to the company just to climb up." Her delicate face was full of mockery.

"You overthink it. I'm here to work." I took back my badge and straightened it.

"From today on, I'm your supervisor. Go downstairs and get me a cup of coffee, no milk, no sugar, and deliver it to me within five minutes," Laura ordered imperiously.

"No, that's not within my job scope." I refused bluntly.

The surrounding colleagues quickly fell silent and looked at us.

Laura seemed to feel humiliated, her face turning red with anger.

"You're just a lousy intern. Who knows what means you used to get in here. Interning at Hamlin Group is the best you can do!"

Another colleague, Jack, sycophantically chimed in.

"Exactly, you're just a small intern. Sister Laura is your supervisor! Whether you pass your internship or not is up to her!"

"And you won't even do such a small thing as getting coffee?"

I turned to Jack: "I'm here to work, not to run errands for people. If you like being ordered around, why don't you go? And get me a cup too?"

Jack was left speechless by my retort. Laura glared at me and walked away; our enmity was now established.

While I was getting water, Jasper appeared beside me like a haunting spirit. He had married Laura and climbed up to become a director, feeling smug every day as if he were the prized son-in-law of the Hamlin family.

"I came to work at Hamlin family, and you followed me here. You say we broke up? I think you still have feelings for me and want to cling to me!"

He had an expression of knowing it all, lost in his self-delusion.

"You overthink it. I'm not like you; I don't need to rely on selling myself to climb up." I didn't even look at him; this man was truly disgusting.

"Why be so stubborn? I don't believe you can let go of our two years together just like that. You must still have feelings for me," he said confidently.

"Sure, sure. Can't let go of you? How about I carve a monument for your two-timing ways?"

I splashed the water in my hand right onto his face.

"Get lost."

Jasper jumped around from being scalded and pointed at me cursing.

After returning, Laura handed me a pile of documents: "Sort and verify these by today for my signature."

Looking at the stack of documents as thick as my palm, I knew it wouldn't be possible to finish today.

A colleague named Linda gave me a sympathetic look: "You're in trouble now. You've angered Laura; your days won't be easy from now on. She's the daughter of the company's CEO!"
