Chapter 4
Madison's POV
I sat on the couch operating my phone and eating cheese balls when Violet barged into our home, she works at a hotel so she is rarely around.
"Madison are you alright?" Violet asked with concern written all over her face, she picked up a jug and turned water into a cup to drink.
"Yes, why?" I nodded my head.
"You look different from the last time I saw you,how long was it?" Violet smiled, gulping from the cup of water.
"Ohh about two, three, four months ago, I guess it's work stress dealing with me" I chuckled as I continued to eat the snack in my hands.
I began to feel restless again, still feeling a bit unsettled. As I got out of the couch, I noticed a lingering sense of nausea. I made my way to the bathroom, Violet rushed after me out of pure concern.
Violet looked up as I entered the bathroom, concern etched on her face.
"Madi, are you feeling any better?" she asked, her voice filled with genuine care.
I shook my head, a feeling of unease washing over me once again.
"No, Violet. In fact, I'm feeling worse. I think I might be sick."
As if on cue, my stomach churned, and I couldn't hold it back any longer. I rushed to the toilet and vomited, my body heaving with the force of it. Violet rushed to my side, holding my hair back and offering words of comfort.
After I finished, I sat back, feeling weak and exhausted. The realization struck both of us simultaneously.
"Could it be...?" Violet started, her voice trailing off.
"Pregnancy?" I finished, her eyes widening with the realization.
"no, it's not possible," I laughed brushing it off
Violet's concern deepened as she looked at me.
"Madi, when was your last period?"
my mind raced as I tried to recall the dates.
"are you trying to mock me? you know Xavier and I stopped having sex way before he cheated," I said feeling downcasted at the thought of Xavier.
"Madi, just answer the question,"
"I... I'm not sure. It's been a bit irregular lately. But Violet, " I was explaining when she cut me short.
"Not Xavier, the guy from the bar, your one night stand." Violet looked into my eyes , my eyes widened upon realization.
"Just wait here,I will be right back" Violet stood up
"Where are you going?" I asked, still feeling extremely weak.
"To get a pregnancy kit" I nodded my head.
As Violet left to fetch a pregnancy test, I remained in the bathroom, my mind racing with a mix of confusion, concern, and a tinge of fear.
The reality of the situation sank in deeper as I reflected on the possibility of being pregnant from a one-night stand. The thought of facing such a life-altering event without a clear understanding of what transpired that night added to my anxiety.
Minutes ticked by, I anxiously awaited Violet's return. I tried to steady my breathing. The sound of the front door opening snapped me out of my train of thoughts, I heard Violet's hurried footsteps approaching the bathroom.
Violet entered the room, holding a pregnancy test kit in her hands. She handed it to me, my tears filled eyes meeting with Violet eyes filled with a mixture of concern and support.
"Take this test, Madi," Violet said gently, her voice filled with empathy.
"Let's find out for sure."
Nodding in agreement, I took the kit and followed the instructions carefully. As we waited for the results, my mind raced with a thousand thoughts. The test seemed to take an eternity but in reality it was barely two minutes, but finally, the indicator appeared, confirming what I had feared.
"It's positive," I whispered, my voice filled with a mix of emotions.
Violet's eyes filled with tears as she moved closer, wrapping her arms around me in a tight embrace.
"We'll figure this out, Madi,I promise,we will," she said softly.
"We're in this together. I promise, I am here for you."
I clung to Violet, finding solace in my best friend's presence. Despite the overwhelming situation, I drew strength from their unwavering bond. Deep down, I knew that with Violet's support, I would find the courage to face the challenges ahead.
I woke up with a pounding headache, I didn't even realize or know when I fell asleep. Violet had already prepared dinner, so I joined her at the dining table.
"How are you feeling?" She asked with concern.
"Am okay,I guess," I answered. I sat on the table joining her for dinner.
"You guess?" She asked again.
"Yep, and have decided" I continued eating my dinner.
"Decided on what?" Violet chulcked and raised her left eyebrow.
"I cannot be a single mother and handle my work life at the same time" Violet cut me mid sentence.
"So? where is this going?" Violet demonstrated with her hands.
"You didn't let me finish, as I was saying, I am going to get an abortion" I said with certainty.
"Did I hear you right? an abortion? Have you gone mad or what? " Violet hit her hands on the table out of anger.
"What do you mean? Am I supposed to keep the child when I don't even know its father" I raised my voice at her.
The tension in the room escalated, Violet's anger and frustration were palpable, and her hands trembled as she struggled to compose herself.
"Madison, I understand that this is a difficult situation, but terminating a pregnancy is a major decision," Violet said, her voice strained with emotion.
"Have you considered all the options? Have you thought about what this means for you, for the potential life inside you?"
My face flushed with frustration.
"Of course I have, Violet! But I can't just bring a child into this world without knowing anything about its father. It's not fair to me, and it's not fair to the child." I raised my voice at Violet.
Violet took a deep breath, attempting to regain her composure.
"I understand your concerns, Madi. It's a complicated situation, and I can empathize with your perspective. But have you thought about the emotional impact of terminating a pregnancy? It's not an easy decision to make, and it can have long-lasting effects on your well-being."
My voice wavered slightly as I responded,
"I know it's not an easy decision, Violet, but I also know that I'm not ready to become a mother right now. I have my own dreams, my own goals, and bringing a child into this world without a stable support system just doesn't feel right." I tried to make Violet understand and see things from my perspective.
Violet's face softened, and she reached across the table, taking my hands in hers.
"I want what's best for you, Madi. I want you to be happy and fulfilled. But please, take some time to think about this. Consider all your options, This is a decision that will stay with you for the rest of your life." I redrew my hands from Violet's hands.
"Have made my decision and it's final"
"And your decision is wrong" Violet raised her voice a bit higher than before.
"Who are you to tell me my decision is wrong?" My voice was laced with anger and louder than hers.
"You know what forget it, I can't argue with you,it's your fucking life" Violet said making me feel alone in the world right this very moment.
"Yes, that's where you have it right, it's my fucking life and you can't tell me what to do , so stay out of it" I screamed at her, I took the car keys and left the house not caring about her or anything at that very moment.
Today, my fate was going to decide whether I keep this child or not but I was so sure I am not coming home with this child in my womb.
