The Hot Sight Of Him.
Chapter 5.
Reina’s Pov.
Thanks to Ronan, I got to walk out of the company as sophisticated as I had walked in.
He had scared the guards off, had their names blacklisted off the company, and even made the HR apologize for humiliating me. And in all of this, he had looked effortlessly hot. He seemed to have been here for a business deal and I could not be less grateful for that.
Being stood up for was not a privilege I had growing up, but today, he stood up for me in ways only my brother had ever done, and now that we are both together in the car, sharing wordless silence, I thought it would be better to appreciate him for being a man I had never imagined him to be.
I tilted my body gently in his direction, cleared my throat, and spoke.
“Thank you for everything that happened in there.”
Ronan tilted his head in my direction, and my heart skipped at once.
His deep grey eyes pierced into mine had the image three days back filled my mind.
God! He was so handsome, sharp jaw, straight nose, hard-angled brows, and lips that promised both promise and ruin.
He had the same look as my man, yet there was something about the way he carried himself. The thoughts grew stronger, but I brushed them away, replacing them with the powerful image of how he had stood up for me.
Now that I have two versions of him in my head, it should be easy to get rid of the first.
Ronan’s eyes lingered on my body and I thought he felt pity… until he spoke.
“You know, I have been thinking. If you had placed the energy you had used into sucking my cock to fight them off then I wouldn’t have to save you. What do you think?” He asked with an arched brow and every smile on my face vanished.
Right. One moment he is cold, then the next moment he is cocky. Wrong of me to think he was sensible.
“I do not know what you are talking about.” I said firmly.
Then one of his brows rose and he whispered in a very mischievous tone.
“You do not know what I am talking about or you do not want to admit it to yourself.”
The anger that I had been trying to contain rolled up and I suddenly felt my blood as it began to roar.
I stared at Ronan who was staring at me with cold yet cocky eyes and I concluded that the best thing to do was leave before I find him between my thighs.
I am angry. I still am, but the heat between us was starting to grow again and I didn’t trust my body a bit.
“Stay. Away. From. Me!” I groaned, pushing the car door and stepping out of it.
Ronan’s deep chuckle followed me out, then he leaned back into the seat while I strode away in anger.
Who the hell does he think he was? Who?
I walked out of the parking lot, angrily heading towards the roadside where I could get a cab and head straight to Ricky’s house, but 20 minutes later and I had not gotten a single cab nor had any rider accepted my ride. Such a bad day for a busy city like New York City.
The summer sun poured down on me and I felt my skin prickling under the heat.
I am certain the devil couldn’t get to me so they sent my fucking father instead.
A car rolled to a halt before me and I needed no soothsayer to inform me of the owner.
The window rolled down and Ronan sat in like a king. He wasn’t staring at me, but I still got the view of his sharp profile which allowed me the sight of his sharp jaw.
“Get in.” He commanded in a tone so cold I almost yielded, but a scoff tore past my lips.
“Why should I listen to you?”
Ronan said nothing for the first few seconds. When he finally stared at me, his eyes had been stripped of every cockiness and replaced with a quiet kind of authority that made me move against my will.
“To your brother’s house…” I said in a shaky tone while shutting the car door.
Ronan said nothing. He just zoomed off at the highest speed.
We arrived at Ricky’s compound in less than 20 minutes and I couldn’t be any less grateful for that.
First, I had to put up with my father and HR, then a man whose reaction can go from cocky to cold.
I stepped out of the car immediately, finding relief that no one was driving me about 200 meters for such a short journey, but when I got to Ricky’s door, it seemed to be locked.
I placed a knock on the door again but didn’t get an answer.
The silence threw me into irritation and I grabbed my phone, typed his number, then called him.
The phone rang twice and when Ricky picked, he was laughing.
“Babe.” I called with knitted brows. “Where are you?”
“Reina…” Ricky called with a hearty chuckle. “Guess what, babe? I have just won a bet… and I am out here getting my money. Isn’t that great?”
My grip on the phone loosened and my lips parted, brows twitching in disbelief.
So while I was at a company… getting my ass dragged, my boyfriend was at a betting stand gambling all his money again.
The knowledge of that pierced my heart so deeply it brought tears to my eyes.
But I didn’t say a word. I simply lowered the phone, pressed the red button, and allowed the call to end.
All through this morning, I had made excuses for him… that perhaps he was busy and that was the reason he never sent a message to ask about the process of my job application. But I was wrong.
The tears in my eyes stung deeper and they almost slipped… well until I heard a voice behind me.
“Crying will not change the outcome.”
I blinked back the tears in my eyes and turned to see Ronan standing behind me.
I wasn’t surprised to see him. I knew he was the person there, but he wasn’t looking as cold as he was before yet he still managed to sound robotic. What a heartless man. So unapologetically unaffectionate.
The tears in my eyes stung deeper for whatever reason and I just knew I wanted to be away. Away from this. Away from my house where there were thousands of guards. Away from Ricky’s house which seemed to have no place for me, and away from whatever would cause me more pain than I was already in.
“Take me out of here.” I said to Ronan, breaking the silence.
He stared at me only for a brief second, then stretched his hand in the direction of the car and that felt like a relief.
The ride to wherever Ronan was taking me was silent. I know nothing about where he was leading me to but for some reason I felt safe, so I just basked in the serenity of the moment, staring at the city that moved in blurs through the lens of the window.
Soon a gate appeared, and when we rolled in, an all-glass house appeared before us, stretching so wide.
I stepped out of the car after a successful park at the lot, staring at the beauty of his apartment.
I wasn’t in utter awe. Considering that my father is rich and I grew up comfortable, I knew what wealth felt like.
But the two brothers, despite sharing the same appearance, have different tastes.
While Ronan is here in Billionaire Row, Ricky is choosing to stay back in Long Island City. Perfect to know they have slightly the same but different tastes.
“Your house is beautiful.” I said gently as we walked in.
“I am aware.” Ronan said in his usual thick tone and I couldn’t afford the eye roll.
Such a jerk. Always proud.
We got into the all-glass house that gave us a clearer picture of the entire city, and Ronan chose that time to speak.
“I am certain here would be comfy enough to erase your worries, right?”
I have never met a man who speak with so much irony as him, but I do appreciate his effort to make me happy when no one else is.
Ronan introduced me to a room where I could stay the day, and I was grateful he didn’t ask me questions about why I was running from my exquisite mansion in Hudson Yards. Hopefully, my father has gotten the news of my escape and has his men vacate my space.
When I got into the room, the first thing I figured to do was run a shower just so I could put myself to sleep. I wanted nothing to do with the noise of the world. I just wanted to sleep and conceal all of my worries till tomorrow, but when I got into the very elaborate restroom, it pissed me off to find out that there was no towel in any of the cabinets.
I stepped back into the room, searching all the wardrobe space with the hopes to find a towel but I didn’t get anything and that… was just evidence that this man barely ever cared about anything but himself.
I stepped out of the room, angrily marching down the hallway that led to his room.
When I got to the door, my legs wobbled and I hesitated for a second before placing a knock on the door, but 10 seconds passed and no reply came in.
I exhaled a sigh, placing another knock on the door, but the same thing happened and that just made me lose my cool.
Who the hell is this guy! All alone in this house without a keeper and still has the nerve to ignore me when he knew I was the only one in this house with him!
My grip on the knob tightened and I pushed the door open.
“Why the hell would you not answer…”
A door to something I supposed was the bathroom opened and my legs halted, my words trailing off at the sight that befell me.
Ronan stood before the door with a towel to his waist while droplets of water ran down from his soaked hair, slipping down his rigid muscles.
My throat tightened at the sight and I couldn’t bring myself to talk or leave. The city lights began to twinkle and all I did was remain by the door, staring at the hot sight of his V-line and the bulge that was starting to build beneath the towel.
