Chapter 14 Please Save Him!
Deanna was taken aback, having never seen Old Hughes so excited.
Unsure of how to respond, she stood there in a daze as Old Hughes warmly guided her towards the rest area.
"The sun is so harsh today, Anna. Let's go inside. It's cool there!" he said.
Deanna felt bewildered by Old Hughes' unusual enthusiasm.
What was going on?
She glanced at the prepared coffee on the table in the rest area, feeling both honored and surprised.
Old Hughes was a highly respected figure with exceptional medical skills. It wasn't common for him to be so warmly welcoming.
Deanna nodded politely and, feeling a bit awkward, said, "I'm here, Old Hughes. What's going on?"
Realizing he might be too enthusiastic, Old Hughes laughed and released Deanna's hand. "Oh, look at me. I'm too excited!"
Deanna smiled awkwardly and withdrew her hand.
As she glanced around, she noticed Ava, Lance, and Xavier all standing nearby.
Her gaze settled on Lance, who looked remarkably well. She knew why he had recovered so quickly.
Looking at Old Hughes, who seemed unusually passionate, she started to piece things together.
Old Hughes got straight to the point.
"Anna, I need to ask you something. Ava mentioned that you treated Lance with acupuncture, and that's why he's up and about. His condition was critical, heart damage, severe injuries, and a relapse of an old ailment. It was nearly a death sentence. How did you manage to heal him so quickly? Also, here are some questions about the prescription you gave him. How did you come up with it? It included ice lotus, a rare herb. How did you obtain it? I've known you for a while, but I had no idea you possessed such medical skills. Where did you learn this?"
Facing so many sharp questions, Deanna felt cornered.
Old Hughes meant no harm, but Deanna's medical knowledge, the ancient remedies, and her skills were all from her master, who had instructed her not to reveal too much about the ancient medical arts.
After considering her words carefully, Deanna decided to keep things vague. "I'm not very skilled. I learned a bit from a doctor I met by chance. It's mostly just luck."
Old Hughes looked intrigued. "And who is this doctor?"
Feigning ignorance, Deanna deflected, "He's just an ordinary doctor, nothing special. I was fortunate to help Mr. Mercer. It was mostly luck."
Xavier and Lance watched her skeptically.
Lance's eyes, deep and unreadable, made it hard to gauge his thoughts.
Old Hughes, having seen much in his lifetime, understood that Deanna was keeping secrets.
He wasn't upset and simply smiled. "Anna, you're too modest. You know, I've spent my whole life studying medicine and treating this young man, but I've never seen such remarkable results as your treatment achieved. I understand you may not want to share everything, and I respect that. However, I have a favor to ask, given our years of acquaintance."
"Please, go ahead," Deanna said.
Old Hughes shifted his gaze to Lance. "Can you cure him completely? He's the son of a dear friend. If you can save him, name your price."
Deanna looked at Lance. Hearing the conversation turn to him, Lance merely raised an eyebrow, appearing indifferent to his fate.
However, Deanna felt a strange sense of familiarity about him.
