Chapter 4
AXEL
BLACK DEVIL PACK
“You don't have any idea what I have to go through, do you? I need answers on who tried to hack our system and if I don't get it within twenty four hours then I guess you better start searching for a new job.”
I threw the files at one of the tech guys working in my company. It turned out that someone tried hacking into our system to get information and I'm getting a feeling that it could be Damian, not only was he a rival from another pack but was also in competition with me in business.
I didn't want to assume things but it was kind of obvious who would stoop so low to do such a thing. The door snapped open and I looked up to realize that it's my beta– Dylan.
He had his hands tucked in his pants and walked towards me with a stern expression on his face. He was not only my beta but was also my best friend and we've been together for so many years.
“Good morning, Axel,” he greeted, taking a seat opposite my direction.
I responded to him with a nod, my attention fixed on my laptop that I didn't even bother looking up at him.
“Is there any issue?” I inquired, my gaze still fixed on my laptop.
He nodded in response. “We have an intruder and although there's no weapon found, I believe that it's all just part of their little scheme.”
That caught my attention immediately and I looked up at him with a surprised expression on my face. “Are you being serious? Who would dare make such a stupid move? We've not been attacked in over ten years,” I stated.
“Who is he?” I asked, my blood boiling in the process.
“It's a she, sir.”
That changed things a bit. I had never faced a female intruder before and didn't know how I was supposed to react to it but it didn't matter because I could guess that a female was probably sent so it would be easier for us to talk to the trap.
“How did she get past the border?”
“We found her at the back of the cargo importing food from the neighboring pack. She was fast asleep at the back but we've arrested both her and the driver.”
It felt a little bit weird for an intruder to do that but regardless of everything, I got my attention and I wanted to know more about this courageous intruder even brave enough to sneak through a truck that's importing food and not only that but sleeping at the back? She seemed daring.
“Where is she?” I asked.
“She's locked up in the prison,” he responded.
I thought for a bit and said, “Bring her to me.”
He nodded in response and left to get her. I was still fascinated by the story and after a few minutes passed by, he arrived with the girl who had hazel eyes, long brown hair and a slender but curvy stature.
The moment she walked in, I felt my heartbeat racing and my wolf– Zed, started unusually. I could sense some kind of strange connection between the both of us and the worst part of things was that it only got me crazy.
“Mate! Mate!” Zed yelled out loudly.
I looked at the nervous girl again staring down at me. I could tell that she was very terrified of me and was shaking out of fear. The most weird thing about it all was the fact that I couldn't get her scent, it was almost as if she didn't have a wolf.
“What's your name?” I asked, she looked at Dylan then back me.
She replied, “My name is Vanessa, Alpha.”
Her name didn't ring a bell one bit and I could already guess that she's from a low rank family. “Are you a normal werewolf or an Omega?” I asked.
She started quiet, not answering my question on time. “Did the car suddenly bite your tongue or is there any other better reason as to why you can't speak up?”
“I'm from a low rank werewolf house, Alpha,” she replied almost immediately.
I could sense her fear and no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't get her scent. It got to a point that I was frustrated, she was my mate but yet I couldn't feel anything else apart from the mate bond.
“Leave us,” I told Dylan.
He nodded in response and walked out, leaving me alone with her. I got up from my seat, walked over to her and checked her out gently. I tried to send if I could sense it if I got close but it was of no use.
“Follow me,” I ordered.
She was taken aback at first but complied. She followed me back to an empty room and then I locked the door, pinning her to a wall.
She let out a l gasp and her breath only got heavier. “What…What are you doing?” She asked.
“I want you to look me in the eye and tell me that you don't feel anything between us. Like you don't feel any kind of bond between us.”
She started pleading with me, “Please, I didn't mean to enter your pack. I'm not an assassin or anything. I promise that I have no interest in attacking him.”
“Please, just let me go.”
She was sobbing out loudly but the sound of her sobs only ignited more of my anger. I punched the wall out of frustration causing her to flinch, closing her eyes.
“I can't trust you. You only seem more fishy with this type of behavior,"I told her.
She stared blankly at me and I was expecting her to say something but she kept quiet instead. I knew that I should throw her into prison especially since she was a suspect but yet I couldn't find myself doing it. I didn't know if this was just her scheme to reject me since she's so terrified of me.
“I want to watch you get comfortable because this is going to be your room and you're going to be working as one of the maids here.”
I stormed out after that, frustrated by the fact that I might just have gotten rejected and my mate had to play it out like this because she's horrified.
