Chapter 1: Accident
Candy stepped into an apartment with a cake. It was her fiancé’s birthday, a man she had loved for three years. To top it all, she had just found out she was two months pregnant.
Stepping further, her eyes scanned the room, wondering where Mark was.
"Mark?" she called lightly and approached the stairs that led to his room. As she did, a frown settled on her face, hearing the sound of his voice. Moans.
Not just his, but a female voice was heard.
"Oh yes!.. harder!..."
Candy's pulse quickened and her heart raced in fear. She slammed the door open and her world shattered, witnessing her fiancé slamming his cock into another woman.
The cake slipped off her hand and crash to the floor, silencing the room.
"Candy?" Mark hastily put on his trousers, while the woman on the bed stared in confusion.
"What's going on Mark?" Tears welled up in her eyes as she trembled, struggling to breathe. This couldn't be real. The man she loved couldn't be betraying her like this.
"This isn't happening. You didn't just cheat on me, Mark. Not after everything I've done for you!" Her voice cracked with anger and pain.
Mark took a deep breath, his eyes showing no remorse, only fueling Candy's anger even more.
"Candy, calm down..."
"You're cheating on me while I've been working so hard to make our lives better!" Candy shouted.
"Can you just be quiet, Candy? This isn't anything new. Don't act like you're innocent either," Mark retorted, leaving Candy in disbelief.
Even after her father's disapproval, Candy had stuck by Mark's side, giving up her dreams and her family to be with him. But now, it seemed like that was her biggest mistake.
"I would never cheat on you. I can't believe you think cheating is acceptable. After everything I've sacrificed? I even gave up my family, Mark, especially after my father's death. Is this how you repay me?" Candy's voice choked with emotion as tears welled up in her eyes.
"I don't want to hear your excuses anymore. Do you think I'm happy that you abandoned your wealthy family? We've been struggling because of your damn decision!" Mark snapped. His words sent a chill down Candy's spine as the harsh reality sank in.
"I did it because they didn't approve of us. I did it because I love you, Mark!" Candy's voice trembled.
"That's just a pathetic excuse. If you can't see it, I was comfortable with this woman in my bed. So leave," Mark sneered.
Candy's heart ached with pain and betrayal as his words tore through her soul.
"Do I deserve this? I'm carrying your baby," she pleaded, unable to comprehend the thought of losing him. The man she loved had become a stranger who seemed to enjoy her suffering.
Mark let out a laugh. "You think you can trap me with your lies? I'm not a fool, woman. You know what? Let's break up. You're always complaining. When I first met you, you were a strong, independent woman, and now look at you, you're like an old hag," Mark cruelly remarked, scanning her worn-out dress. "You're not the woman I fell in love with. You're weak and repulsive."
He didn't stop there, continuing to tear her apart with his words.
"Don't you think I know you went to see your ex last week? And then you lied, saying it was for some fucking business," Mark's brow arched. "Why are you pretending to be innocent?! You're nothing but a whore..."
Mark's words pushed Candy over the edge.
"You heard me, you're a fucking-"
Before Mark could finish his sentence, Candy's hand flew across his face, delivering a swift slap that echoed through the room. He clenched his jaw and glared at her.
"Screw you, Mark!" She turned and left, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Go to hell, Candy!" Mark's voice trailed after her.
As Candy drove back to her apartment, tears continued to stream down her face. Mark's hurtful words and actions replayed in her mind, intensifying her anguish and anger. The father of her unborn child, the man she had sacrificed everything for, had stripped away her dignity and self-worth.
The pain was suffocating, making it hard to breathe, hard to think. She pressed down hard on the accelerator, crying her heart out in the car.
Her heart skipped a beat when a speeding truck suddenly appeared in front of her. She tried to swerve away, but it was too late.
The truck collided with her car, causing it to flip multiple times, pieces flying in all directions. Finally, the car came to a stop, upside down.
---
"Hello, this is 911. What's your emergency?"
"Hello... Help... I just got into a fatal accident, and... I'm in so much pain..." Candy's voice trembled as she held her phone tight.
Candy trembled, her body held in place by the seat belt. The intense agony radiated from her abdomen, accompanied by the sensation of blood flowing.
She could hear faint murmurs and the distant wail of sirens outside. The car door was forcefully opened, and rescuers swiftly reached in, gripping her from behind. An oxygen mask was placed over her face as they carefully moved her onto a stretcher.
Candy drifted into unconsciousness as they transported her into the ambulance.
She remained in a state of unconsciousness for three days. When she finally regained consciousness, her stepmother, Natalie, was at her side.
"What happened?" Candy croaked, her voice feeble and weak.
Natalie, upon hearing her voice, called for the doctor. Candy attempted to sit up, but pain surged throughout her body.
"Don't push yourself, my dear. You need to focus on healing," Natalie advised, returning with the doctor.
"Good morning, Miss Candy. I'm Doctor Thompson. How are you feeling?" the doctor asked gently.
Candy snorted, her mind still hazy. "What happened?"
"Three days ago, you were involved in an accident and sustained injuries. I'm deeply sorry, Miss Candy..." The doctor paused briefly. "You have lost your baby."
