CHAPTER 5: FORBIDDEN

Killian's POV

"Why didn't the curse kill her?" I berated no one in particular as I stormed into my private quarters. "Why is she still alive?" "Honestly, I have no answer to that question, Lord Wolfe" Ronan, who had followed me, replied with caution. "I find the outcome strange." I arched a brow, but it seemed he wasn't done tal

king. "First of all, she's the first rogue given to you as a mate" He continued. "Secondly, she looks like she knows nothing about the curse. I believe we should find the prophetess."

I snorted. "That's like going on an hopeless mission, Ronan. Soteria is not that easy to find. I need answers now. Why didn't she die?" "Probably because she's the one you've been waiting for" Ronan hinted, and I frowned. "What do you mean?" I asked. Ronan shrugged. "You had the same thoughts too, didn't you? That was why you're decided to keep her instead of sending her to her grave like every other trespassers. I believe she's the one the prophecy told us about." I remained unconvinced. "If she's truly the one, why did the moon goddess have to go through the trouble of sending my previous mates to me? What prevented her from sending just the one I needed to break the curse?" "I have no idea, Lord Wolfe" Ronan replied, sighing heavily. "I strongly suggest that we search for the prophetess. It might take weeks or even months, but till then, we have the opportunity to study her."

I exhaled heavily, contemplating on his words. It made sense; at least, for now. "Fine" I voiced out. "Make preparations for her at the maid quarters, then get her out of that cell. Also, make sure she isn't comfortable. I want her to go through hell for thinking she could reject me." "Your wish is my command, Lord Wolfe" Ronan replied with a bow, turning to leave. "I'll do that, and keep you updated."

The moment he left, I walked towards the window, staring at the sky coldly. The sun had set, and the moon was reflecting a bit. If killing the moon goddess was possible, she would have died many times in my hands for making me go through the torture of finding a perfect mate all these years. Anyways, the prophetess could be the one to pay for her sins. A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. My sense of smell sharpened as I sniffed. Immediately, I could tell who it was. "Come in" I said icily without looking back.

The door creaked open, and the clicking of heels made my ears twitch. "What do you want, Valerie?" I asked with a cold voice. I heard a soft chuckle. "Come on, Killian. I have the right to come say hi anything I want." I scoffed. What audacity? "Let this be the last time I correct you, Valerie" I stated, turning to her. "It's Lord Wolfe to you. Also, I don't remember giving you the right to barge into my quarters when you like." She pouted like a spoilt brat. "Why can't I? We grew up together. I'm basically the only woman who understands you. Who knows? Maybe the reason why your mates keep dying is because they're not a perfect match for you. I am...." "Enough" I cut her off sharply. "You've said too much, Valerie. Leave now." "Why didn't she die?" Valerie questioned sharply. I got confused. "Who?" "Your new mate" Valerie revealed. "I went to see her in her cell."

I was speechless for a moment. When I found my voice, my anger rose with it. "What did you do?" I berated, my claws elongated. Our relationship was the only thing that kept me at bay, or I would have butchered her a long time ago. Valerie shrugged. "Nothing much. I was only trying to prepare her for the truth. She's going to die sooner or later and you know it." "What?!" I spat in rage. "Did you mention the curse to her?" "Does it matter?" Valerie retorted. "She's going to die anyway. What made you decide to keep a weakling like her?" "How dare you question my decision?" I scowled. My wolf was already livid. One of the things we hated was people questioning our authority. "You're crossing the lane, Valerie" I added, my voice laced with warning. "Stay away from her." Valerie scoffed. "Why must you have a destined mate only for her to end up dying? Why can't you choose one instead? Someone powerful and capable enough to rule by your side." I knew where she was going. I wanted to end the conversation as soon as possible. "An Alpha is not allowed to choose a mate" I countered firmly. "It's been like that for centuries."

"But it can change from you" Valerie argued. "You're powerful enough to change any law." I was fed up, but she wasn't done talking. "We can rule together, my dear" She stated, trying to sound vulnerable. "Let's just..." "A witch and A werewolf can't work" I declared with a tone of finality, cutting her off. "I can't claim a witch as my mate." Valerie took a step backward, pain etched on her face. "Who made that law?" She sobbed. "No one needs to make it, Valerie. It has never been heard of, and it won't start from me" I declared. "Now, leave my quarters." "But..." "I said leave" I ordered sternly. "The next time I hear that you spoke to her, you'll face my wrath. Get out of my quarters!" Valerie hesitated, but turned to leave. The moment she stepped out, and I let out a deep breath to cool off. Who the hell did she think she was? It was all my father's fault; rescuing a pregnany witch. My mother was against it, but she had no say in the matter. That witch ended up birthing the spoilt brat, and dying in the process. I was a bit skeptical about her response. I needed to see if... I didn't even know her name. With a deep breath, I stepped out of my chamber, and headed towards the direction of the prison. The cells I passed all held prisoners who were accused of treachery or breaking the law. I found her cell just by sniffing her scent. It was strangely quiet. She laid still on the cold floor, not making a sound. I felt the mate bond tug at me, but that wasn't what caught my attention. It was the scent of blood. I couldn't even hear her heartbeat. Fear seeped into my veins as I thrusted the iron bars open with a flying kick. I rushed in, and knelt down before her. The moment I held her body in my arms, my wolf screamed in pain. She was cold.
