Chapter 2: Beta of Ironfang
I shot him an unbothered gaze, staring at him like nothing he said mattered to me even though my stomach trembled at his words.
"You look better than I expected" He sneered and glared at me, his usual boyish grin nowhere to be found.
"I guess prison has a healthy effect, glowing skin and all" I replied sarcastically.
"You know, sometimes I wonder what unbelievable sin our parents committed to deserve a daughter like you," He said coldly.
"What do you want? I'm sure you didn't come here to see how well I'm coping" I stared at him quietly, I was content that my voice or face didn't reflect how I really felt. He obviously wanted something from me or else he wouldn't be here after three years and he definitely didn't come on a social call.
"Your apology. Accept your crime and apologize to my sister in front of the entire pack and in return I'll release you"
A sharp pain stabbed my heart. I was used to getting betrayed since I was a child and without my family I learned to survive the worst days, but I didn't know how much the betrayal from family could hurt.
Even after all these years no one had bothered to investigate what truly happened and clear my name and I didn't mind, I was used to life treating me like I was the bearer of bad luck, but the thing I would never do is accept a cruel fate written by other people.
"No" I reigned in my emotions tightly, and even though I was raging inside, I maintained a picture of composure.
"I will never take the fall for something I didn't do and I don't care if father decides to kill me-"
"He's dead!" He yelled suddenly and kicked the metal chair against the wall. His blue eyes shone with anger and pain.
I froze in place, even though I didn't have any real relationship with my father, the news of his death still shocked me beyond words.
"The dream" I whispered quietly and eye-balled him,
"How did it happen?" I needed to know.
"What do you care? If you want to rot here then be my guest!" He glared at me and walked towards the door.
No! It didn't matter if he thought I was a horrible person for stealing his precious sister's valuable jewelry, all that mattered was the dream, if it was coming true then the destruction was very near.
"Lucien!" I called out when he yanked the door open.
He turned to look at me, his eyes hard and cold.
"I'll take your deal. Release me and I'll do everything you asked" my voice was icy and unfriendly. I didn't know how but I knew I had to get out of the pack. If the dream was coming true, I had to get as far away as I could but that wouldn't be possible in prison.
His countenance shifted and he smirked.
"Anything to survive huh? After all that was all you had to do for fourteen years" His eyes and words mocked me but I hardened my heart against the stinging pain of his words, he had no idea of how hard my life was all those years from home and all the things I had to do to survive.
I sat comfortably in the back seat of Lucien's car, he didn't think I was fit to sit in the front but it didn't bother me, the chair was the best thing I sat on in three years. I almost groaned in pleasure.
"Don't think I'll ever forgive you..."
I drowned out his voice and stared out of the window, I got lost in the endlessly blue sky as I went over the plan in my mind, one chance was all I needed and I would never see any of their faces again. Half a mile later, I saw the first building.
"Please stop here" I raised my voice over the music in the car. He turned off the music and glared at me through the mirror.
"And why would I do that?" He gave me a nasty look,
"I need the toilet or would you rather I do my business in your car?" I added the last part for effect.
"Wtf" he swore under his breath and brought the car to a sudden stop,
I stepped out of the car and forced myself to walk into the building without running, it was a small shopping mall and I knew it would take a lifetime of work before I could afford their cheapest cloth but I wasn't after buying.
I asked for the directions to the the rest room, aware of Lucien's gaze and even though I was sure the sales person almost puked at the sight of my clothes she pointed the direction after getting a glare from Lucien, I almost laughed at the stark difference in our dressing, I looked more like his slave than his sister.
I climbed into the ceiling vent and waited. Soon enough Lucien came thundering into the area calling out my name and breaking things.
I waited thirty minutes in the dirt and climbed out, if I was right then he was on his way to the Manor and when he comes back with more men, I wouldn't be able to escape.
I saw a marked room and slipped inside, changing my clothes as fast as I could, there was no way to change my hair color just as fast so I slipped a face cap on.
I rushed towards the entrance but turned around when I saw four security men on the lookout examining the people checking out, shit.
Lucien must have instructed them to find me, I hurried off to male section but bumped into a hard chest.
I steadied myself on his broad shoulders and pulled away. Lifting my head, I gazed into his grey eyes, he held my gaze and the intensity of his stare made my insides quiver.
"Sorry I-" a hand closed over my wrist and pulled me back before I could finish.
"Let me go!" The fear of being caught by Lucien stung my mind and I dug my teeth into the strong arm holding me.
"Hey!" The voice was sharp and deep but he still didn't let go.
"It's me, Darian! Stop!" He swore under his breath and twisted me around when I finally eased my teeth on his arm.
"You've become even crazier" His face was set in annoyance. Hard and unsmiling, I did a double take.
Damian was the Beta of Ironfang pack and my birth mate. His wolf marked mine when I was born and our parents solidified our relationship with the promise of a marriage.
"What are you doing here?" I asked breathless, I couldn't tell if my wolf wasn't excited to see him or I was just too anxious to get out of the place but whatever it was I could feel my wolf's irritation and annoyance.
"Lucien called and told me you ran away but since I was close by, I wanted to check for myself and see if my wolf could locate you even though we're not..." He trailed off and I could see a mix of guilt and fear in his eyes but he brushed it off quickly and continued.
"Let's get you home, shall we?" It wasn't a question, He started moving and half dragged me out of there.
My plan had gone to waste, it didn't matter that I could barely breathe in the vent for 30 minutes or how hard I fought to elude the security men, slacking for a few minutes with the grey eyed man had given Damian an opportunity to get me.
I wanted to scream the sky down and it took every ounce of strength not to punch Damian in the guts and run away but instead I forced a dry smile and got into the car.
Trying to run would be of no use anyway, I was outnumbered and if prison taught me anything it was to bid my time.
"How far do you think you will get before we catch up to you huh?" Damian said blandly, I wasn't interested in talking to him, I wanted to bang his head on the wheel but at least that was how my wolf felt.
"If Vespera hadn't asked, Lucien would have never agreed to release you and you'd be on your way back to prison for the stunt you just pulled now" He continued without caring if I replied or not but then again I found out just how much he liked to hear himself talk the hard way.
"Vespera is such a sweet girl and I seriously don't understand why you hate her so much, I mean the poor girl convinced Lucien to release you and even wants to redeem your image in front of the pack at our wedding!" I turned my gaze to look at him, what did he just say?!
"You're mating with Vespera?" I asked with chills in my voice.
The rest of the journey went without either of us talking, he was visibly uncomfortable but I didn't care about his marriage to Vespera or the betrayal. What was abundantly clear was the dream.
Vespera had already started plotting, and I was completely sure now that she had my father killed.
I jumped out when the car finally stopped, I had no time to admire the beauty of the house, I was only concerned about Lucien's safety, if Vespera had father killed then she wouldn't hesitate to destroy Lucien.
I reached the steps and the door flew open. Before I could process anything, Vespera ran down the stairs and hugged me.
