Hired
Morgan Daniels didn’t know what it was about the girl with the chocolate-coloured hair standing before her.
Maybe it was her beauty, or maybe it was how nervous she looked after the encounter that just went down, reminding her of someone she knew, or maybe it was her innocence, the dark-haired wouldn't know.
But she felt something stir in her. Something that has been dormant for years.
Her eyes were locked on Morgan, as Morgan's was on hers.
The dark-haired couldn’t look away even if she wanted to like there was a certain electrical pull between them that made it difficult to take her gaze off the girl.
From the corner of her eyes, Morgan saw Resha and Terry smile mockingly at the precious girl who still had a scared look on her face despite her gaze still fixated on the dark-haired.
Morgan frowned at that. But frowned even harder at the fact that she had just thought of the girl standing before her as precious.
“Do you want to leave as well?” her question was directed to both girls, making them poise themselves and stopped laughing.
Good.
Then, she turned her attention to the girl who now looked like she was ready to get the hell out of there.
“Can I help you?” Morgan Daniels couldn't recognise the tone of her voice. She watched as the young struggled to speak. She opened her mouth, closed it and then opened it again.
“Come here” she ordered.
Again, Morgan didn’t know why, but she felt a knot in her chest watching the girl tense up from the tone of her voice. She made her way towards the rest of us, and the dark-haired could feel Resha and Terry's glare at her in a condescending way.
And that irked her.
“What are you doing here?” she inquired once the girl stood before her.
“Uh… I was sent back here to ask for a certain Morgan ” Maia Shelton replied nervously.
Fuck!
Her voice. So dulcet and pleasant, matching her innocent appearance.
“What is it for?” the dark-haired's tone was more soft in order not to scare her any further
“For the job” she replied nervously.
Jesus!
With how scared she looked earlier when Hannah yelled at her and how tensed up she looked when the dark-haired spoke to her, she couldn’t help but wonder if she could handle the stares and remarks from customers when they are drunk.
“How old are you?” Morgan Daniels was genuinely curious about that.
“Twenty” she replied.
Thank heavens! Morgan was relieved she wasn't a minor.
She felt something shiver in her shiver at this revelation which she couldn’t quite comprehend.
“Have you ever worked in a place like this before?”
“Uh… yes. I think” her reply was uncertain.
“You think?” Morgan tilted her head quizzically, although she wondered if the girl could see the questioning look she gave her, considering that giving that the lighting in the room wasn’t the best.
“I mean I worked in a food pub” she replied.
Food pub? That had nothing to do with working in a club. Giggles could be heard coming from the corner and the dark-haired turned giving Resha and Terry a dead glare making them quickly adjust.
“That has nothing-“
“I am a fast learner” she cut me off, sounding somewhat desperate.
She gave Morgan pleading eyes, silently telling her that she wanted- no, needed this job.
“Resha. Terry, outside” Morgan Daniels ordered, although her eyes were glued to the girl who stood before her. She could feel them tense up but none of them made any attempt at moving.
“Now!” this made them gasp as they rushed out in a frenzy.
Now that it was just both of them in the room, Morgan realized what a bad decision it was, demanding Resha and Terry leave the room because it suddenly became too small for both of them.
She stepped away, trying to distance herself from the proximity that lingered between them as she leaned on the table that stood in the middle of the room.
The girl looked nervous.
Way more nervous than she was when Morgan asked if she had any experience.
Generally, she liked making women nervous. Because she knew they wanted something from her and she had the final say, on whether to give it to them or not.
But that wasn’t the case with this-
Fuck!
Morgan just realized she was yet to have the girl's name.
“What’s your name?” she uttered.
“Maia?” she says not sounding sure of her name
“You’re not sure of your name?” Morgan questioned with amusement in her voice.
“What? No. It’s Maia. Maia Shelton. I’m sure of that” she replied with much certainty now.
Maia. That was a unique name.
“Maia,” the dark-haired said, testing the girl's name on her tongue and loving the way it rolled off her lips.
“You have no business doing here” it was a remark coming from Morgan.
However, Maia doesn’t respond and instead looked down.
“Can you handle this?” Morgan asked this time her head quickly shot up.
“Does that mean I’m hired?” she ignored Morgan's question to ask hers.
“You haven’t answered my question” she stated
“I think I can,” she says trying but failing miserably to be confident.
Usually, Morgan Daniels was rational when it came down to business as anything decision she takes, she ensures it will benefit the club.
She knew there were persons out there most suitable for the job, yet, she didn’t what anyone else.
And deep down, she knew hiring Maia will somewhat harm the welfare of the club.
First off, she had zero knowledge of the workings of a club. She didn’t know the various ingredients needed to make drinks and she most definitely wouldn’t be able to handle the remarks from men when they are drunk.
The second, and most probably the most frightful reason, Morgan Daniels could already see herself calling out and to a certain extent, harming anyone who tries as much to look at her funnily.
But that didn’t stop me from saying “You are hired”.
The moment those words left my mouth, she regretted it. But that regret was replaced with warmth flowing through her body when she saw the smile on Maia’s face, and only then did she know, this girl was going to be trouble.
