Friend.
Bambi POV.
Remember that guy? The one who's older than me, the one who's in charge of me, well turn out his name is Eliot, and he's nice, well really nice and friendly with me, I'm not like the other girls, or so he said, he said I'm much nicer, and friendly, and innocent.
"Why is our payment so little?" I ask him, I've been working here for a couple of months now, and all I could afford was and still is canned soup, even my mother's medicine, I had to be very careful with how much I'm giving her, she's in pain, although she pretends she's not, she pretends not to look at the pills and be in need for more, trying to push the medicine to last for longer.
"They're the average, they don't want the humans to live such an easy luxurious life, they need to keep us poor," he says, I turned to him confused, what does he mean? We're working it's the money we deserve for our hard work, why won't they pay us.
"Why?" I ask him still confused when he didn't offer me any more explanation.
"Because, dear red, if they pay you enough to be able to pay all your bills, get food and get extra money, you'll be living in luxury," he says.
"What's wrong with living in luxury?" I ask him, it might be a dream of mine to live in luxury, to not have to worry about money as much as I do.
"Luxury means you could think, and thinking would mean you'll be trying to take over the world again, and they would never allow us to take the world back," Eliot says, that's one theory, he might be right, but I wasn't so sure.
"Sure," I say, not commenting on this anymore, I was starving, and I can't wait to get home and eat more canned soup.
"Your stomach is growling," he says, I blush, could he hear it too, that's so embarrassing, everyone has lunchtime, it could be a minute or sixty, either way, the money would be deducted from your payment. But since I'm sitting with Eliot, it counts as if I'm still working, no money is lost and I'm still starving, I tried to hold my empty stomach in, I've lost so much weight since I started working, my body is smaller than it used to be even.
"I'm okay," I lied.
"Come on, I can get you some food," Eliot says, but I do count him as my friend, and as my friend, I could tell him the truth, right?
"I can't afford it," I say my face going red, it's just embarrassing.
"Don't have to, it's free," he says, and I looked at him, what does he mean free? Nothing is free in this world, everything got a price.
He took me down to the kitchen, I never went inside the kitchen, and I sure as hell won't be stealing any of their food, they'd kill me, they'd skin me alive, and that scares me so much.
"What are we doing here?" I say trying to pull back, he can't force me in, I need to keep my mother safe and alive, not get killed.
"Just come along," he says, he didn't move toward the chefs who were cooking for the masters of the house, instead we moved back toward where the food was being brought back, the one that was only half eaten or hardly touched.
"This would be thrown in the trash," he says, they have so much food they'd throw what's left in the trash.
"But won't we get in trouble?" I ask him, still worried about my life, soul, and skin.
"Nope, you're with me, take your pick, all the maids do this," he says, taking a sandwich that wasn't touched while I stayed back, not ready to touch anything yet.
"Here you go," he says handing me another sandwich, I thanked him and ate the whole thing quickly, worried, that if I'm caught, I'll be in deep trouble.
"Come on, relax," Eliot says, but I couldn't relax, not while eating food that isn't meant to be mine, but I'm done, and ready to run away.
"We need to get back to work, but maybe we can sit after work?" he says, does he mean like a date? I wasn't ready to go on dates, and my face has given me away.
"As friends, as friends of course," he says, and I nod, trying to laugh it off, but it was too obvious how uncomfortable I'm feeling.
I went back to my work, I couldn't stay hidden with Eliot, he had to get back to his work too, I hoped I'd be given an easy job, to clean anywhere, just to stay away from the master of the house, from their looks, from their eyes, from their touch, but tough luck to me.
"Go clean the sheets," another one of the maids told me, her clothes were all messed up, and her hair was all tangled, I just nod and get in, she was one of my bosses too, I had to obey her.
The room was a bedroom, as expected, I walked in and saw the bed was all messed up, I began to take off the old sheets, ignoring the blood and other bodily fluids covering it, I took it all off and threw it on the floor, then went to change the pillow covers.
I threw the dirty sheets in the laundry shoot, happy I'm not the one who have to wash them, I heard one of the other maids say they are washed by hand since all of the house sheets are made out of silk, and I don't fancy washing those stains out.
I got a clean set of sheets, and started to place them all over the bed, I made sure to do a good job, if someone had to re-do my work, I'll be kicked out soon. I was almost done, and ready to leave tidying off the rest of the room when the bathroom door opened, I didn't think anyone was there, but there came a naked guy from the waist up, having only a towel to keep him decent.
"Well hello pretty thing," he says eyeing me from top to bottom, I took a step back afraid, he only smiled trying to look friendly, but his sharp teeth ruined the aesthetic for him.
"Hey, it's okay..." he starts but I took off running, I don't want to be anywhere near an almost naked supernatural!
