A divorce
No! This can't be happening.
Ruby thought it was all a dream. "I thought you loved me, Conri. You told me so."
Dew's lips curled in a scornful smile. "Oh, Ruby. You're so naive. You assumed he loved you. Sorry to burst your tiny bubbles, he never did. Right, Darling?"
Conri was getting irritated at the sudden turn of events. He never meant for Ruby to see them. He planned to divorce her quietly without raising dust. Now this.
" I don't love you. I only married you because of my father's instructions. You were a means to get my inheritance, which I did after marrying you. I love your sister and will marry her after the divorce," Conri coldly spoke regarding her.
I don't love you. The words rang in her ears.Torrent of tears rushed down her puffy eyes.
All this while, they have been having an affair right under her nose.
She felt used. Her consolation was that she was pregnant. Yes, she will keep it a secret.
"Don't be too hard on yourself, poor Ruby," Dew said mockingly.
Ever since her mother's death, Ruby had never experienced peace. Dew and her mother turned her father's heart from her. Making him treat her like an afterthought.
He only wanted Ruby's marriage to Conri for a business alliance and nothing more. So as the first daughter of an Alpha, she married Conri.
They had all used her for their selfish gain.
"It's been years since we got married, you couldn't even give me an heir. I can't continue with you. Dew is carrying my heir," his voice was as cold as steel.
The news hit her with force, she reeled in shock. Her heartbeat increased, hammering away.
If only he knew she was pregnant for him. She calmed herself and wiped her tears.
She will not give him the satisfaction of watching her in tears. She'll be strong for her baby. It was painful but she decided to forge ahead.
She squared her shoulders.
"I'll sign the divorce papers when it's ready," she said.
Conri was shocked, he wasn't expecting her to give in easily. He thought she would fight back. But no, she stood, returning his cold stare with a glare.
The sudden change surprised him. Well the easier the better. He'd prefer they wrap things up quietly and quickly without the town gossiping about it.
Which will be near impossible, once the park finds out that the Luna has been replaced, there's bound to be questions.
"The rejection ceremony will be tomorrow," Conri said.
Ruby looked at him. then walked out. She could hear Dew's jeering laughter behind her. She couldn't care less.
Outside, Kyle saw Ruby coming towards him, she looked sad.
"Let's go," Ruby said as she got into the car.
Kyle entered the car and drove off.
Ruby got home and rushed to her room, she collapsed on the huge bed and cried hard.
He betrayed her trust, she felt hurt.
It was a painful moment for her.
Calling her father to tell him about everything would be a total waste of time. In his usual self, he will ignore her.
Even her step mom, will always side with her daughter, Dew.
It dawned on her all of a sudden. Conri never returned from the office on time. Most times he will stay away for days without checking up on her. When she complains about it. He'll always tell her how his work is keeping him away.
That night, it was past 12 when he returned. She heard his car drive in. He entered the house, then knocked lightly on the door.
Ruby stood up from the bed and opened the door. It was Conri.
"Here take this, it's the divorce papers. You can sign it this week," he said without emotion.
Ruby glared at him. " Hold on."
She hurriedly grabbed a pen from the side table, snatched the papers, and signed on it.
"It's done," she said. Handing him the papers.
He was stunned but he maintained his composure.
"You'll be well settled, your alimony w……"
Ruby interrupted him. " Keep your money, I don't need it."
Then she slammed the door on him.
That morning, she called the maid, a beta who worked for her and Kyle.
"I want to thank you for your help around the house. I won't be needing your services anymore," Ruby announced.
Kyle's eyes sparked in concern. "Luna, what's going on?" he asked.
"I am leaving and won't be returning."
Gladys's eyes were covered with mist. "I will miss you, Luna."
Then she hugged Ruby while Kyle stood in surprise. Ruby has been a sweet soul. The best to work for.
"Take this, your salary in advance for three months," she told them.
Kyle and Gladys each received an envelope.
Ruby packed all her belongings even the tiniest item.
She had grown to love this place, but she won't be staying here anymore. Ruby could not shake off the feeling of grief that she felt.
Kyle helped her to pack her bags into the car.
She took one last look at the house and closed the door, shutting that part of her life away.
When she turned to leave, she came face to face with Dew.
Dew stared at her, her eyes gleamed in hatred for Ruby.
"The rejected Luna, too bad for you Ruby," Dew jeered.
" Dew, you should be ashamed of yourself. Sleeping with your sister's husband. You're a slut," Ruby fired back.
"I may be a slut like you claim. At least I am the one giving him an heir," Dew taunted.
If only she knew. Ruby smiled. From now on, she will defend herself and won't allow anyone to tear her down with hurtful words.
She'll do it for her baby.
"I don't care what you and Conri choose to do. I have better things to do with my time. You're just like your mother. You're a scheming bitch," Ruby spat.
Ruby left Dew standing behind her. Dew's next words, stopped her in her tracks.
"Watch your back, Ruby. I'll make sure I deal with you."
