Chapter 1: The Breaking point
LUNA'S POV**
I watched him laugh at something she said, and my heart broke all over again. Seven years. Seven years I had given to Raven, and this was how he repaid me. With betrayal.
The breakfast table felt cold, even though the morning sun streamed through the windows. I pushed food around my plate, not really seeing it. Raven sat across from me, but his eyes were only for her—Sophia. The omega he brought home three months ago. The girl he claimed needed our help.
What a lie that turned out to be.
"This is delicious," Sophia said, her voice sweet as honey. She touched Raven's arm, and I felt my wolf stir in anger. My fingers curled into fists beneath the table.
I used to be the center of his world. I remember when he would look at me like I hung the moon and stars. He promised me that even if fate sent him a true mate, his heart would choose me. He swore it on the pack bond.
How foolish I had been to believe him.
"Olivia, you're staring again," Raven said coldly, not even looking at me. "It's rude."
My cheeks burned, but I forced myself to look away. "I wasn't—"
"Salt," he interrupted, holding out his hand without glancing in my direction. I passed it to him, our fingers brushing for just a moment. But where there used to be warmth, there was nothing. Just ice.
Sophia wrinkled her nose at her plate. "This tastes awful, Raven. Did your wife cook this?"
*Wife.* I was his wife. We had married four years ago in a ceremony surrounded by the entire pack. He had cried when he saw me at the altar. Now, he couldn't even call me by my name.
"I made breakfast," I said quietly. "If you don't like it, you're welcome to cook something else."
Sophia's eyes flashed with anger. "Are you being rude to me?"
"No, I'm just telling you—"
"Raven!" Sophia's voice turned soft and hurt. She looked at him with tears in her eyes that I knew were fake. "She's being mean to me again."
I watched Raven's face harden. "Olivia, apologize."
"For what? I didn't do anything wrong—"
"Apologize!" he roared, and the whole room shook with his alpha power. I flinched.
I stood up, unable to sit there any longer. I needed to leave, needed to get away from this pain. But Sophia stood up too, and when I tried to move past her, she deliberately stepped into my path. Then she fell, crying out as if I had pushed her.
I hadn't touched her.
"What did you do?" Raven was at her side instantly, cradling her like she was made of glass.
"She pushed me!" Sophia sobbed into his chest.
"I didn't!" I protested, but my voice sounded weak even to my own ears. "You did it on purpose!"
Raven stood slowly, his eyes black with rage. He looked at me like I was something he found on the bottom of his shoe. Before I could say another word, his hand connected with my face.
The crack echoed through the room.
I stood frozen, my cheek burning. We had been together for seven years. Married for four. And he had never raised a hand to me. Until now. Until her.
"I cannot have you as my mate," he whispered, his voice deadly quiet.
The words hit me harder than any slap ever could. I felt my wolf cry out in pain deep within my chest. "What?"
"You heard me, Olivia. I don't want you anymore. I need a strong Luna, someone beautiful and worthy. You're just... ordinary. Meeting you was a mistake. The biggest mistake of my life."
Sophia clung to him, smirking at me over his shoulder.
I stood there, tears streaming down my face, as my husband—the man I loved more than life itself—walked out of the room with another woman on his arm.
**But I had made a decision. He wanted to throw me away? Fine. I would show Raven exactly what he had lost. And I would make sure he regretted it for the rest of his life.**
