Summary

"Sex slave? Is that what you thought?" "What else would you have dragged me here for?" I said, my voice trembling. He took a deep breath and looked me over, from head to toe, with an assessing expression that made me shrink back. "Don’t flatter yourself, female. You don’t meet the requirements to be one of my sex slaves." "Oh yeah? And what would those be?" He gave me that same smug, evaluating look again, but this time I puffed out my chest—and he seemed to notice, even if just for a second. "The first is being attractive." "What? Did you just call me ugly?" "Does it matter?" "Of course it matters! First of all, you're wrong! I’m not ugly, and I do meet all the requirements to be a sex slave!" — By the goddess, what was I saying? Marius looked at me, visibly confused, until he asked: "Why does it sound like you’re applying for the position?" Jane is an orphaned, rejected she-wolf who dreams of receiving her wolf and leaving the orphanage behind. One night, when she goes to a party with her friend, she finds herself in danger after realizing there is no party only three wolves with the worst intentions. Everything changes when the feared and cruel Marius, a wolf accused of massacring his own pack in the past, saves her. Or rather kidnaps her. Marius makes it clear: Jane will be his prisoner for one year, until she receives her wolf and can give him what he wants. But how can Jane trust a killer? And what is she supposed to do with the wild attraction they both feel, trapped together in an isolated cabin?

Chapter1.

Delister Orphanage

Jane

"But what does that mean, Jane?"

Mrs. Calister pointed to the small coffee stains on the hem of my skirt.

I immediately looked at Hayley, who was smiling maliciously.

"Mrs. Calister..."

I tried to explain, but she slapped me so hard that I fell backward.

My eyes widened when I saw one of my teeth on the carpet.

"Luna Clarisse is coming to see how I'm running the orphanage, and you stain your best clothes! Oh, you filthy orphan!"

Hayley had thrown her coffee on my clothes on purpose, but Mrs. Calister didn't care.

She pulled me by the hair, dragging me out of the room and pushing me toward the stairs. I fell, sitting on the first step.

My blood boiled, and the pain in my face and mouth from the missing tooth made my legs tremble. Mrs. Calister was a very strong and cruel wolf.

"Go to your room and stay there. I'll tell them you're sick. You idiot."

She grimaced with contempt and left.

I spat out the blood in my mouth and felt my eyes begin to burn. I hated the lump forming in my throat and the tingling in my nose as I desperately tried not to cry.

Just one more year in this orphanage, and then I would turn eighteen, receive my wolf, and join the Alpha King's forces as a tracking wolf.

I bore the mark of a tracking wolf on my neck: a small red circle. It meant that my father had been a tracking wolf—a skill passed down only from father to son.

There were many tracking wolves, but they all worked for the Alpha King in the capital.

I would finally leave the city of Delister.

I opened the bedroom door, feeling my blood boil.

Right behind me, Hayley appeared with her friends.

"Oh, you won't be able to go on the Delister pack outing.

What a pity," she sneered.

"Hayley, don't forget to sleep with your eyes open tonight.

You never know what might happen," I threatened.

Hayley raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms.

"You think I'm afraid of you?" The crazy girl who swore she saw a black wolf when she was ten? Are you going to call him to punish me?"

Hayley always brought up that subject, even though I had sworn that I saw a black wolf. Everyone knew what had happened years ago with the black wolf in the Silver Moon pack.

"Marius Blaine is real, and maybe he was the one I saw."

"Of course, he's a murderer who killed his own pack. Be careful he doesn't come looking for you, little Jane. Since you like him so much..." She left the room, laughing with her friends.

I snorted and went to sit by the window and watch them drive away.

I stayed by the window until night fell. I must have sat there for hours, staring at the horizon and the forest until I saw them: red eyes watching me from the shadows. They were unmistakable—flaming—and my heart raced and my whole body trembled as I fell backward in shock.

"By the goddess!"

I wasn't dreaming. Those red eyes...

Hours later, Daiane opened the door to the room we shared.

I looked out the window and saw all the wolves returning with something in their hands: bags of gifts and new hairstyles. I felt a pang of envy, but I closed the window.

"Jane, you won't believe everything we did today!" Luna Clarisse took us to her pack. We ate and received gifts.

Look at this braid one of the wolves did in my hair!"

Daiane showed me the long, double braid that looked perfect in her dirty-blonde hair. I just nodded, though.

She must have noticed my discouragement because she quickly sat down next to me.

"One of the wolves I met invited me to a party in the clearing.

We can sneak out after midnight."

I grimaced, not feeling up to a party or sneaking out in the middle of the night.

"Come on, Jane.

You'll have fun. What Calister did today was unfair. Hayley did it because she knew you would win Luna's heart."

I doubted that Hayley would think that way. After all, she knew that even though I didn't have parents, they had died in the Silver Moon Pack massacre carried out by the terrible Dark Wolf.

I had been abandoned at the orphanage's door. She had a mark on her neck that said she was a wolf destined for an Alpha; she would be a Luna. I, on the other hand, risked my life on the roads, following the scent of wolves who had committed crimes against our Alpha king.

But I knew Daiane wanted to cheer me up, and I couldn't resist her hopeful eyes.

"I saw him again today," I said.

Daiane rolled her eyes, just like everyone else.

She didn't believe me.

"Jane, even if Marius Blaine, the killer, is still alive, he's not after you. It's your imagination.

The kitchen was dark that night, and you must have just been scared. Besides, you hit your head.”

"Why did he kill everyone? Imagine how strong he must be to have done that alone," I said.

Daiane shook her head.

"No, let's not talk about it. Even if he's alive, he must be far out of sight. The king's wolves are still looking for him because of the massacre. Now, how about a party? Come on, please..." She pouted like a child.

"Okay, we'll escape tonight, but if the black wolf catches us, it's your fault," I joked.

It was past midnight when we walked along the trail toward the clearing where Daiane's wolf friends were having a party.

"Are you sure you know the way?" It's so dark here,” I said, looking around. There didn't seem to be a party anywhere. It was so quiet.

“Of course I know. Dany showed me the way I should go."

We soon reached the clearing, but there was no party. I wouldn't call three men around a campfire a party.

As soon as I saw them, I had a bad feeling and grabbed Daiane's arm before they saw us. "Let's go! This is weird." Daiane pulled her arm out of my hand and looked at me as if I were silly and neurotic. To my dismay, she turned to the guys and waved, shouting, "Dany! Dany!"

Dany was the tallest in the group with light hair and a square face. As soon as he saw us, his friends stood up and smiled, waving. Still, I didn't think they looked friendly. Daiane ran toward Dany, who picked her up and kissed her deeply, stunning me. I had never seen her kiss anyone before.

I thought about leaving, but when my gaze met the other guys', they seemed to be staring at me expectantly.

But how could I leave her alone with all of them?

I should have left.

I walked toward the clearing where we all greeted each other. Daiane sat down next to Dany.

Caio and Paul stood on either side of me.

"I thought there would be more people here since it's a party," I said, narrowing my eyes at Dany.

Dany smiled in a way I didn't like and replied, "If there's a male and a female, it's a party."

I felt a chill down my neck when Caio put his hand on my leg. I slapped his hand away immediately.

He laughed as if he were enjoying himself.

"Look how angry she is, Dany!" Caio mocked.

I stood up and looked at Daiane.

"It's late. Come on." Daiane seemed uncomfortable with what Caio had done to me, but Dany pulled her back with all his strength, forcing her to sit next to me.

I moved forward to rescue her, but I felt big hands pull me by the waist. Caio threw me backward onto Paul, who ripped my shirt, much to my horror. At that moment, the men burst into sinister laughter. Now, I was alone, and they could do whatever they wanted to me.
