Chapter Six

Almost an hour later, Edgar came downstairs freshly showered clad in only a pair of tight calvin klein briefs with his hair still wet from the shower.

He smiled widely when he saw Monique eye-raping him with a hungry look on her face.

She blushed furiously when Edgar cleared his throat to grab her attention.

She moved quickly to her seat with Edgar laughing softly behind her. They served themselves and ate with gusto.

Monique couldn't help but notice how his muscles rippled when he cut his food or raised his coffee mug to his lips.

Edgar sure noticed Monique's attentive gaze but did nothing about it since it coerced his ego to swell bigger than it already is.

Breakfast was long finished as they walked hand in hand to the living room.

A thought flashed through Monique's mind causing a cold shrill to immediately run down her spine as she remembered the vow she made to her sister.

Her twin sister to be precise.

Monique Caroline Montgomery.

She had promised to make Edgar Lancaster pay for the rejection and humiliation he caused her way back in high school.

She had successfully convinced Caroline to take a vacation trip to Hawaii and here she was, sharing his bed and home all in the name of taking gradual steps to avenge her sister's demise.

Was she doing it for herself or her sister?

Because she was seeing a whole different side of Edgar than she had been led to believe and truth be told, she really like it. And she was actually going to enjoy while it lasted.

She was still lost in her thoughts when she felt a light pat on her ass. She snapped back to reality only to realize she had stopped walking and had zoned out.

" Uh... Sorry Eddie. I was thinking about something"

"Mmh Eddie... I like that"

Monique blushed shyly.

"So what were you thinking so hard about Monique?" Edgar asked curiously

"Oh... Uh... Nothing really... " She lied

With raised eyebrows, Edgar said," You don't expect me to believe that. Do you? I mean you zoned out for minutes. Come on... Really you can tell me anything"

Monique let out a nervous sigh

"Well... I miss my family... Especially... My sister"

Tense silence filled the room at once.

"Your sister?? If i remember correctly, you told me you were an only child" Edgar questioned. The irritation and underlying hurt not lost from his voice.

"Yes... And am sorry I lied. I... I just said so to get to you. And besides i don't like talking about her. She was born mentally unstable and has an issue of low self esteem because some guy made her feel that way.

She had been undergoing therapy to eradicate that but when the guy humiliated her... Something snapped inside her. She moved from bad to worse.

She shut everyone out and my mother took it to heart. We both were her greatest treasure.

She had problems with birth after she had us so to see Caroline go through hell had a great impact on her. It killed her to see my sister suffer.

That day, it was yet another episode of Caroline's tantrums and her refusing help from everyone.

Mum must have had too much on her mind that she overdosed her sleeping pills. We found her dead by nightfall"

The tears rushed down freely from her eyes. It hurt so much that the all-too-good-and-perfect Edgar Lancaster was the cause of her greatest misfortune.

She wept out loud as it was tearing her apart. Edgar let out a low curse as he pulled her into his arms.

Comforting her the best he could. He felt strange and for some reason, it hurt him more than he wanted to accept.

He also knew something didn't add up with Monique's explainations but he couldn't figure out what and why.

He pushed those thoughts aside and concentrated on Monique. He figured she had been mourning on her own for far too long.

So he helped her to the nearest sofa and let her cry her pent up sorrows out.

After an hour or so, the tears ceased. Her face reddened and her eyes swollen and bloodshot.

Edgar's heart sunk at that sight. His hold on her tightening.

Tilting her head up so she could look him in the eye. He brushed his lips softly against hers and said;

"Am sorry you had to go through all that on your own... But don't worry. I've got you now. It's going to be alright baby"

Monique flashed him a saddened smile knowing fully well it was never going to be alright.

"Thanks Eddie. But my head hurts and I feel tired"

"Yeah, you should be... Come here"

He said, helping her to her feet before scooping her into his arms.

Carrying her upstairs and straight to his bedroom where he settled her comfortably under the covers.

He went to his bathroom and returned a pill bottle of Tylenol.

He poured her a glass of water from the Jug on the nightstand and after helping her into a sitting posture, he handed her the water and two tablets of Tylenol.

As soon as she was done taking it, he took the empty glass. Setting it back on the nightstand.

Tucking her back into bed, he kissed her briefly on her forehead before heading into his walk-in-closet.

His phone started ringing as he was entering his closet. He picked it up and answered when he was in the confines of his closet.

It was Cassie doing her regular check-ins on his well-being and a little update on office work. He trusted her but he couldn't tell her about his recent progress with Monique.

It didn't feel like the right time. Cassie already knew there was something brewing between them and would like her to keep thinking that.

After the chit-chat, he ended the call and grabbed a sweatshirt. Pulling it over his head before heading out. He saw Monique stir in her sleep but didn't wake up..

He smiled as he headed downstairs to the hall where he stretched out on the sofa to watch some business highlights but he just couldn't concentrate.

Somehow, somewhere thoughts of Monique kept slipping back into his head. Her kisses, her touch.

How she responded to him and the hazy look in her eyes whenever she was full of desire or the flustered look on her face whenever she came undone.

These thoughts alone had him shifting uncomfortably on the sofa. He wanted her again.

Yes. Yet something else lurked beneath that want. He didn't dwell much on it seeing as he didn't feel too ready for what may come.
