Chapter 44 Use my car and run a red light?
Alina noticed the disfiguring scars on Emma's face. Although she hadn't seen them clearly from a distance earlier, she had overheard people discussing them. Now, as she looked at Emma up close, she couldn't deny that Emma's appearance was truly unpleasant.
"Alina, I hate you! Why did you have to take everything away from me?" Emma's outburst echoed in the empty surroundings as she removed her facade and unleashed her hysterical anger.
Alina scoffed, "Steal from you? You're not even worthy of what you claim to have. From the beginning until now, it has always been you who stole and schemed."
Emma's eyes burned with jealousy as she glared at Alina. "What kind of trick did you use to make Mrs. Collins, who despises you, accompany you to this party?"
"You did this intentionally, didn't you?" Emma shouted, her frustration evident.
Alina's expression turned even colder as she stared at Emma. "Yes, I did it intentionally."
Fear flickered in Emma's eyes, making her appear pitiable and aggrieved.
"You don't need to put on a show for me. I'm not a man who can sympathize or pity you," Alina stated matter-of-factly. And truth be told, Emma didn't deserve pity.
Tears welled up in Emma's eyes.
A cold voice pierced the air, "A woman devoid of compassion has no right to pity others."
Alina's gaze sharpened as she looked at Emma, realizing that the instant pity she witnessed wasn't directed at Emma, but at him.
Alina chuckled dismissively. "So, that's all you can rely on, men." With those words, she turned around and walked away.
Unbeknownst to Alina, Caleb stood just a short distance behind her, his eyes filled with resentment.
"Excuse me," Alina said, attempting to push past Caleb. However, as she reached out, Caleb's grip tightened on her wrist.
Then, a voice overhead spoke, "Tomas, take Emma back."
"Caleb," Alina called out.
Emma's plaintive voice and the harsh sound of the car door being slammed shut reverberated in Alina's head, intensifying her headache.
Caleb forcefully pushed her into the car and sped away without waiting for her response. Alina, who had never experienced motion sickness before, felt her stomach churn.
At that moment, Alina's heart raced, particularly as she observed the cars weaving in and out of traffic.
"Caleb, if you want to risk your life, don't drag me along, and please don't use my car," Alina said, feeling a headache coming on as they passed several consecutive red lights.
At this rate, she'll end up getting her driver's license revoked.
However, Caleb showed no signs of slowing down. The car only came to a stop when they reached Mulherd Manor. As soon as Alina got out of the car, she rushed to a nearby flower bed and vomited.
Caleb had truly crossed the line this time.
All that remained in the surroundings was Alina's discomforted voice, while Caleb leaned against the car door, coldly observing Alina squatting by the flower bed with an indifferent gaze.
It took a moment for Alina to regain her composure and glare at Caleb so intensely it seemed she could devour him. "You're such an asshole."
"In the future, rid yourself of these petty thoughts, or..." Caleb's voice trailed off, his tone dangerous and icy.
Alina also gave the man a cold stare, refusing to respond. She wanted to see what he could possibly threaten her with at this moment.
Suddenly, Caleb spoke up, "Or, even if you participate in the Oklens competition, I will make sure you fail."
"Yeah, so what if I participate in the Oklens competition? You could have taken my life three years ago. What difference does it make if you try to bring me down now?"
The man's face remained as cold as frost.
The two locked eyes, and in Caleb's gaze, there was a flash of anger that could extinguish her life at any moment.
As Alina turned to go inside, she heard Caleb's voice behind her, "Don't go after her again. Just be Mrs. Collins. She poses no threat to your position."
Caleb believed that was the greatest concession he could offer Alina.
She paused and looked back at him, her eyes filled with intensified coldness. "Whether you believe it or not, tonight was an accident."
It wasn't much of an explanation, but this misunderstanding at least clarified that she had no intention of holding onto the marriage. She still wanted a quick divorce from Caleb.
The man's face darkened, clearly not expecting Alina to be so unappreciative. "Tomorrow morning at ten o'clock, I'll see you at the Civil Affairs Bureau."
Alina retorted, "Don't worry, I'll be there an hour early, waiting for you."
"No, make it two hours."
Caleb was furious at how highly this woman thought of herself.
As Alina watched him disappear from sight, she snorted, "You really think you're a prince."
But before she married Caleb, many girls in Ingford were captivated by him.
